  • Any free transit visas for 19 hours in Saigon?

    • no free visas, you have to get 'invitation' (simply buy it) + paid on site (cash). Can't remember exact prices but not too expensive.

    hello KGB

    • +1

KGB doesnt exist anymore, but the FSB does. No different to the CIA, but i dont see anyone saying “Hello CIA” when there is a deal on to USA. Remember Edward Snowden ran away from USA to Russia, that says spades to me.

Just a word of warning traveling on Vietnam airlines, there was one time that the 1 guy(40s or over), smoked at the lavatory, there was no alarm rang (WTH), the air hostess tried to tell him off, but he got so upset and argued and fought. Which was pretty much useless as the air is already covered up with the smoke smell. Just my 2 cents.

and there was that one time, at band camp …well, you know.

Just a word of warning traveling on Vietnam airlines, there was one time and I was on the way to the airport and I got a flat tyre. Just my 2 cents.

    • Was he in captains uniform or how is this relevant?

anyone have experience with getting a russian visa? it seems like all these communist countries require visas (china, vietnam, north korea, cuba etc.)

    • -3

You use communism as terrorism. Educate yourself than talk, what i mean is, non westernized education, broaden your mind and horizons, no one's hungry or dying there. :)

      • -4

i am educated - communism is cancer.

        • You can't say that.. all the kids whose life has revolved around the insulation of the education dept will be up in arms.
A good friend grew up in a communist country.. his view was different to these book worms.
If the proud supporters of communism were so impressed with it's benefits they would be living there… but they are not, and they would not if they could. End of that debate.

Russians Spend Over Half Of Income On Food As Poverty Rises
Poverty in Russia to rise sharply: World Bank
World Bank says Russia crisis to send poverty to highest in decade

Not to mention the attacks on homosexuals in Russia over the past few years, great ideology (Not saying it's exclusive to Russia but definitely it's more common than a western country). Democracy vs communism.. honestly both have good points, but both have very bad points too and whilst Russia may not be officially a communist country anymore, there are still very strong communist influences and Russia is no paradise.

Don't even get started on Cuba.

        Educate yourself than talk

@drazenm: Right, which is why I just said communism does have its good points, because I only look at one side of it? Not to mention I have spoken with Cubans who have told stories of sending dead bodies back from the US to Cuba wearing clothes to be given to their family back in Cuba..

But oh right, according to you communism is so great and anybody who doesn't agree with your opinion of it is uneducated and blind? What a joke.

I have gotten Visas for China (Business and Tourist), Vietnam (Business) and Russia (Tourist) without any issue. They are all about the same amount of inconvenience. They may all require invitation letters, require your passport to be handed over and finally picked up/mailed out to you after a short time period. If you live in Sydney, there is a Visa office for China and Russia, but Vietnam needs to be sent to Canberra.

Visa requirements are normally bilateral. If the first country requires the second country's citizens to acquire a Visa, then the first country may also reciprocate Visa requirements for citizens of the second country. So which country really started it?

Conversely, I was surprised when I had to get an expensive Business Visa for Thailand when there are no Visa requirements for Tourists. Thailand have some special restrictions for foreigners doing business in the country so have this additional requirement.

      • If your are in Sydney you can get the visa from the Consulate General of Vietnam in Edgecliff.

yeah, I got a visa for russia previously. piece of cake. applied at the embassy.

it seems like all these communist countries require visas (china, vietnam, north korea, cuba etc.)

      vietnam isn't communist.
      china is more socialist

you need a visa to go to america. but it's not communist.

      • Aust tourist to USA.. see Visa Waiver Program….
Only applies to visitors from select (civilised?) countries..

        • yeah, cool, so as an Australian you don't need to apply for permission to go to the US but you need to apply for permission to go to the US.

I paid $35(?) in march to go to Hawaii

My passport is currently with the Russian consulate for my visa application for travel in January. I had to get an invite (can buy online for about $30) then fill out the application form online listing everywhere I have travelled in the last 10 years and pay $150 plus return registered post. They've had it for a week, and I believe they should send it back in another week.

First Russia is not a communist country, second does Australia issue free visa to Russian ? If not why should you expect a free one from Russia.

      • Civilised countries have free visa arrangements.

        • My reply wasn't about civilised countries (which is debatable whether Australia is one) but about communist countries and reciprocating agreement re visa.

        • Where does that put our little island then?

The brand damage and costs involved with getting a USSR Visa make never want to go there

Real pity that's a fantastic deal, near cheaper than the visa required :-)

    • +7

you would need a time machine to go back to the 20thcentury when the USSR existed…..
