Bauhn 65" 4K LCD TV $799 at ALDI - It's Back 15/10 (Excludes WA/SA)

2230

It's back again. For those who missed out on this deal, here's a second chance.

Available NSW/VIC/QLD only.

I picked one up last month and am very happy for the price. Sound is predictably average so you'll want to hook up some speakers. Watching the NRL GF on 9HD was fantastic.

Full specs from the Bauhn website here.

Also worth noting is that it's really light. I'm an average sized guy and had no issues carrying it myself.

Standard Aldi 60 day money back guarantee and 12 month warranty apply. No smart/android functionality but we've all got a few Chromecasts by now which does the job well.

Solid Gizmodo review here. Following his suggestions certainly make it a better viewing experience.

  • FYI I just picked one up from Aldi in Fairy Meadow. They had one on the floor, still sealed up, but they got mine from the store room. Sorry, I didn't ask how many they had left.

It just fitted in my 2002 Forester, slightly on a diagonal and filling the space fully from back of front seats to rear door.

    Also - there's a firmware update here. http://www.bauhn.com.au/software-updates/atvu65-0916

  • I'm assuming there is zero chance of me fitting one of these into a Holden Barina? :-0

  • FYI I picked one up from Aldi Boxhill South earlier today. Speaking to someone from the back there was one at the sidewall of the checkouts which I bought, and several others still out the back.

Have just done the firmware update and updated the settings as above.

Very happy with the picture quality.

    • Do you have the dimensions of the box mate? Just trying to work out what car I need to borrow to fit it in.

      • +1

        160x95x19cm

        • thanks

I bought one during the last offer. Not good. Colours very washed out. 1080p was ok but 4K had lots artifacting issues (unrelated to codec in use) and refresh occasionally caused blank screen for a second or two. Basically a real mess. I use an Nvidia Shield .. Considered about the best smart box with 4K support. needless to say it went back to Aldi, but you have 60 day guarantee and maybe I just got a bad set.

    • last offer in Sep or few months ago?

    • Artifacting and blank screens - you checked the cable right?

Maybe you got a bad set? This is one of the most popular and upvoted TV deals on this website. 9/10 complaints in, this thread are for the wrong model and the rest are genuine defects that all have been replaced no worries. It's basically saying that everyone but you has a problem if you don't think you either got a bad set, bad cable, lacked the due dilligence to set it up right - or a combination of the three.

  • Not sure what's happening with QLD. Called up the Aldi phone number 13 25 34 and got a lady from NSW. She said that the Tv should be in the latest catalogue. I explained to her that it wasn't here in Brisbane. She had a chat to somebody else and I think she said it was only in the NSW catalogue?

I then went to a local store here in Brisbane, and they said they were having a sale on these tv's, but it wasn't until the 5th November. She said something about it not being an advertised sale, and only specific to her store on that date, and she called it a "go sale", or something like that. She also said that other local Brisbane stores are likely to have these on special as well in the next few weeks, but it won't be advertised, and it will likely be different dates. Pretty confusing….

Jimbler, its in the Queensland catalogue for this Saturday, 15th October.
Middle of the catalogue has the 65" and the 24".

      • +1

I can confirm, I picked up one of the catalogues on Saturday when I picked up my TV and it was in there. Jimbler, where in Brissie are you, Aldi at Taigum is where I got mine early, you might be able to get one from there?

        • +2

You can get them early at Keperra as well. Ten left.

        • +2

          @kiarod:

Thanks. I picked one up today. It's weird that my local store isn't selling them this weekend. She told me to wait until 5 November. Anyway, happy to get one eventually.

        • @jimbler:

          Awesome, enjoy!

  • +1

Saw two at southland vic today.

    • Thanks for the tip just picked one up.

Store person also mentioned they had 2 pallets worth out back.

  • There was plenty at Heidelberg Aldi in Victoria.

    • Is that the ALDI on Bell Street or the one in Warringal Shopping Centre?
I might pick one up tonight while i have the 4WD. Thanks.

      • +1

Bell street. I went there to get a sim card and the guy sold me the TV :)

        • Thanks mate

    Hi all,

Just thought I post something I found interesting.

When playing videos through HDML from a PC, I found the TV have dynamic contrast of sorts on. Blacks very very black and shadow details were lost, colours were over saturated.

Browsing through the service menu (menu + 1147), I found a setting under Picture Setting > PQ Advanced > VIP. If I turn this off, then the above mentioned dynamic contrast is turned off!

Finally, I highly recommend people getting a spyder pro and calibrate their set, the colours are perfect after calibration. I did, however, had to add some additional brightness and gamma in Nvidia control panel for video colour to bring it to balance with my computer monitor.

    • Does the calibration works for free to air or only on pc?

      • Only PC, as it's a PC software.

    • EDIT: Have to try VIP against Nvidia GPU settings first.

      • I also found something weird, in VLC the colours would suddenly change to something less contrasty, also like it reverted to unprocessed picture… all without me doing anything, did this in two videos already. very weird.

    • Problem with the "VIP" setting is that it reverts back to "on" after you turn off the TV and turn it on back again… :(

  • anyone else got this tv to work with their apple tv 4 remote to control volume? I can't seem to find a way to do this.

    • Yah, in Apple TV just add the TV remove volume functions to the home theatre section.

      • I've set that to auto and IR.. and still it's not working, not sure what I have to enable to fix this! did you update firmware.

        • I'd say Auto only works for more expensive TVs that have HDMI-CEC or something like that.

So is the issue you can't find the model number of the TV on the Apple TV?

        • @username1:

nope, see I can turn on/off the tv with the apple tv remote but I can't turn up or down the volume… I was hoping that someone figured out how to do it?

        • @jeayese:

Have you done the set up on the Apple TV settings where you hold the volume up button on the Bauhn remote? (Haven't opened my TV yet to test sorry). It worked for my AV receiver fine

        • @username1:

just tried that, didn't work :( any other ideas?

        • @jeayese:
Have you got anything else connected to the TV apart from the apple TV connected to HDMI?

        • @trevorf:

I have the Wii U connected, should I disconnect it and try?

        • @trevorf:

have you actually got your apple tv 4 remote to volume control the tv?

        • @jeayese:

Yup. My apple TV 4 remote will both adjust the volume and able to put my TV into standby mode and also wake from standby.

        • @trevorf:

well now i'm confused! how on earth did you set it up?! did you have to restart the apple tv?

can you give me a list to try please?

        • @jeayese:

          woops replied to myself, DOH!

        • +1

          @trevorf:

I got it! disconnected the Wii U & just had to create a custom volume control via IR using the bauhn remote and it actually worked this time! Phew!

  • I'm using this as a computer monitor and it's stretching a recently new laptop graphics capabilities but works at 4K resolution at 29Hz ok. Overall quite happy with the vast screen real estate available though it's overall size is too big for our current home office setup so will have to work that out.

  • Anyone got this tv working with Harmony ultimate / remote easily?

    • +2

No problems with my Harmony 300. The TV is already in Logitech's database. Perhaps another user has already set it up.

  • silly question, can this tv be laid flat in the car with seats folded down to get it from shop to home (short drive - approx 1.5km - 5 mins). thanks

    • In my purely non expert opinion i'd say yes it can be laid flat for the trip home.
I drove Sydney to Melbourne with a 40 inch Samsung TV laid flat across the seats.
More recently picked up a 55 inch 4K Sony TV from Costco for the parents and laid it flat for the 8km trip to their place.

    • Yep, transported mine flat without issue.

    • I'm pretty sure that the risk factor will be directly proportional to the number of speed humps along the way and how quickly you drive over them.

These products are designed to survive (longish) trips on trucks when standing upright. Most of the vibrating force on the screws will be lateral, so they are unlikely to come out. If you lie the screen flat, then you are effectively pulling on the screws and run a much higher risk.

The flex force on the panel is also a small issue and it may cause some dead pixels to appear (or appear sooner than they would have anyway).

Transporting the TV flat will not outright kill it, but it may reduce reliability or reveal any weak points. I'm sure loads of people do it and are still happy with the TV when they get it home.

      • you sure have a wild imagination

  • bought one last night, panel was faulty… heading back to get a replacement today

    • What was wrong with it?

      • +2

the panel was faulty, lots of bleeding / defects in the top 10% of the screen. Brauhn support was nice and easy, returned it and got another which is working fine

  • Any chance of a list of QLD Aldi Stores people are seeing these advertised at?
Just went down to the Stones Corner and no signs of it for sale tomorrow.

  • +2

Rang Aldi and they confirmed that it's QLD, NSW and VIC only

  • Picked one up at Melbourne CBD store around 7pm tonight. There were two more on the floor, possibly others out back.

  • Avoid Baulkham Hills in NSW as they did not get any. Went in tonight and they have none.

  • I have just set up my TV. It has a bit of vertical banding when view with single background colour esp with navy blue despite optimising the setting with low back panel lighting. Not sure whether I should replace it.

    • that really sucks :(

    • I rarely noticed it on normal viewing with certain scene but with my raspberry pi, the blue background, I can see the banding. Am I having too high an expectation for $799 TV? I probably waste my time as swapping with Aldi may have a worst outcome.

  • Rosehill and Ryadelmere nsw - no stock

  • When you get to the checkout and they don't take AMEX..

    • Sorry mate, which store did you try?

      • Miranda store NSW, the non Westfield shop ( theres two )

I managed to grab the last one on the floor. They may have more out the back but im not sure.

        • They must have stock out back if you found a couple not long ago. I was in the queue at the Miranda store at 8.15am and picked up one of the four on display. They were all gone in 1 minute.

I reckon thet are stock from original sale that they are redirecting.

Hope it isnt damaged from all that transport but we'll see

On another note Im getting good at spotting ozbargainers in a queue

    • And charge a surcharge for credit cards. Can't believe it

      • +1

yeah a bit of a joke..

  • +1

Ok got mine plugged in and setup so far so good.
Im no expert but i tried a few screen tests through apple tv app and could not notice any issues with picture. Ie no noticeable banding
    My panel number is LSC650FJ02

Will take some pictures before i change settings and see how it all looks after calibrated.

    • I think thats the more likely to be good panel you got. Mine is different, and I'm probably going to return it. It has banding on light gray colours.
      https://s16.postimg.org/r57kwpith/20161014_221936.jpg

      • The grey uniformity issue is due to poor backlighting (usually a design issue), not the LCD panel.

If that is representative of the ALDI TVs, I'd be staying away. Then again, there's a lot of people who will never notice or care, that's why the manufacturers can get away with it.

        • Yeah I only noticed it after a few days when I was watching a movie with scenery of lots of big grey skies. That made me do a proper colour test and that shows the same as what I was seeing in the movie. All the other colours are fine, just grey.

        • @stumo:
I'm pretty sure you will notice the issue with any solid colour. Grey is the most obvious, but it will be there in blues, greens and reds too.

Blue skies are often the first time that people notice this.

    • Same Panel
      Mine has been great
Backlight on 40, no DSE and greys look good

      No banding, colour calibrated

For a samsung panel and 800 bucks, could not be happier

  • Been to Eastwood ALDI at 8:25am today, waited for 7 minutes, then bought one at Eastwood ALDI as soon as it open.
FYI, I heard the other customer checked with the salesman and found that I just took the only and the last one in the store during that moment FYI. Thus, please try the other ALDIs before you come Eastwood for luck to see if they stock in again.

  • I pulled the trigger this morning.. EF yeah!! Down with Sony, hisense, lg n all the ripoff others!! Bauhn all da way (profanity) u snobs we got da best right here at the right price point (profanity) yeah bro!!

This will tide me over until the oleds get super cheap in a couple years or so. Now need chromecast.

    Yeah (profanity) u telesnobs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Bought one last night. Plugged it in, it was all working fine.

Turned it on this morning and the sound has stopped working.

Will be returning it. Really disappointed.

  • South Melbourne - None there either.

  • Fitted in the corolla easy. Btw won the panel lottery - got a jo2 with 25/7 build date :) no lines / bands. Woot. Im still in the dark ages though cause about to hook up the ps2 and rtype final ^_^

    • What's the deal with the panels? Which is supposedly the good one?

      • I didnt know myself until I started trawling over at whirlpool for the facts - https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2565368

Seems theres 3 slightly differing version depending on build date. 25/7 is the one to score apparently. Im very happy so far with my tv

        • Is there a way to tell from the box/packaging in the shop? I.e. Does it say build date or something hint else on the box ?

So I know tomorrow when I have a look :)

          Thanks.

    • +1

      I have a J02 15/9 build date

      Could not be more perfect

      Very happy

      J02 is a good panel

    • What ALDI did you buy it from?

  • There was only 5 at my local store and a line of 20 people waiting when the store opened. They should have given them to the first 5 people but everyone from the back of the line ran in. Very poorly handled by Aldi.

    Still got one though.

    • +1

Ha! Did you just admit to doing a runner? :-P

  • Hi guys, grabbed the TV from Aldi yesterday. Everything works fine, the only problem is I can't get audio through the optical output. My optical cable is fine, as well as the receiver. I used the same cable connected my PS4 and my old TV to the receiver, everything works. Do you guys know why I can't get audio output from this TV? Thanks.

    • You should be able to see some light if you look at the end of the optical cable after connecting into the TV.

      • Don't point it into your eyes
Protip :) use a piece of paper to see the reflection
it might send you blind but by all means have a look at it :)

        • They are not that bright. I am not blind from it. No heat felt either.

        • @Bargain Zombies:

Still classed as laser and not good for you

Laser pointers don't produce heat either btw :)

        • @shawncro 222: It is the heat that damaged the tissue.

  • I have decided to keep the TV despite it has some banding. After play around with it a bit, backlight set at 50 is best for me. There is a test pattern that you can use - I use grey - to adjust the backlight that shows the least banding effect. Mine is 50%, some panel may need 30% etc..

  • +1

6 - 7 left at forest hill vic aldi

  • Mine has some very minor banding. Is it worth playing the backlight lottery and going to and from returning TVs? It's a 12 min drive.

Alternative anyone with a 0 banding J02 panel want to make a quick $100 I'll buy yours for $900.

  • Has anyone got this working with a Sonos Playbar? With my previous TV (a Sony) I could set the TV to 'external audio' and it would turn off the internal speakers, allowing the volume control to control the soundbar only. I can't see how to do that with this one, so the volume controls the soundbar and the TV, and the TV speaker is audible (and terrible).

    • +2

Replying to myself, I've just stuck an old pair of earbuds in the headphone port so the internal speakers cut out.

  • If you can guys, send an email to [email protected] to request they update the FW to fix the settings issue:

    ATVU65-0916 Firmware issue

    Hi,

Could you please update the Firmware on the ATVU65-0916 to fix the following issues.
