ALDI Medion 2.1 Sound Bar - $129 @ ALDI on SAT 15 October

40

By all reports the sound on the 65" $799 Bauhn TV is pretty bad.

This sound bar goes on sale the same day - might make a good purchase…

I assume this thing is AC powered, but they dont show the power cords in the photos.

  • Bluetooth function
  • HDMI with ARC and CEC
  • Remote control included
  • AUX in
  • 2 x 15W speakers
  • 1 x 30W sub woofer
  • Detachable design

By the looks of it, a similar if not the same sound bar was sold in July for $99…

Yes, but now I'm not so sure…for a hundred more I probably could get Samsung , LG branded …

      • Nice, the sound bar came as bonus with my tv, still don't know the model number..? :P

  • Yeah, I bought the soundbar that was on sale earlier this year. Sound was not great (not bad through optical input), and it developed a word crackle at certain frequencies.
Luckily returns are super easy as I ended up taking it back for a refund no problem.

    SAT is 15 Oct

  • I've had the older version for about 2 years now (no Bluetooth and non detachable) and use it for the sound on my PC via optical input.
The battery on the remote went flat quick and I didn't bother to replace it, but no complaints, it does the job fine, however at times I do wish it was louder since I like to listen to the PC/radio while working outside.

  • Does it support HDMI-CEC?

  • This might be the same item, guessing this was from a previous sale last year. Specs at link

I have this sound system and am not really satisfied. As someone else mentioned, above where I'm currently writing, there is a word crackle on some notes. And where is the bass? The whole sound is not crisp but kind of muffled. The other BIG thing against buying some Aldi electronics - especially the Medion brand - is that the customer tech help is hopeless. For a brief while the tech help was redirected to the U.K. where the caller was confronted by the rudest, most clueless consultants to draw breath. Then, for a while, there was an Aussie help desk which I found great. The consultants I called for a few queries about the Medion Soundbar are in India. Hopeless doesn't even begin to describe the lack of saavy. The lady that answered my call informed me she didn't have any idea how to work this speaker system as she didn't have a manual and to call back in the next day. I called back the next day, but I was greeted by more puzzlement even though they finally had downloaded the manual.
Samsung, on the other hand, have a 24 hour tech help section where you're greeted by polite, patient and really helpful personnel. Good after sales service is almost as important as the product being decent as if you have problems or need advice, you're on your own with Medion. At least, that's been my experience.

    • Wendy you make a good point about Medion after sales support.

I worry about the same thing with Bauhn products, like the $799 TV.

Just doesn't sound like much of a bargain. There have been low spec branded soundbars around this price before. It's only 60w total… and sounds like it's gone up $30 in price.

I didn't post it because I wasn't sure how much stock there was but this sony sound bar

    http://www.sony.com.au/electronics/sound-bars/ht-ct80

is scanning at $99 at office works. My mother in law bought the last 3 at Nerang last week. It is now off the officeworkds website, but two weeks ago was on there for $149. Clearly a clearance and not sure of stock, but worth calling your local office works to see if they have any. I'm sure it would be far better than this POS.

  • like others, i tried the aldi soundbar with wireless subwoofer, but also had the crackling noises so returned it. Have used similarly spec'd and priced (~$150) products from phillips with good results, but eventually spent a bit more ($300) on a Sony which blows them both away in every aspect.
