I'm trying to decide if I should upgrade, I've got a hero 3+ black edition, it has been good to me, but unfortunately, it's run into issues for last 3-4 months. Brought from dick smith too, so doesn't help that they are gone lol.
Any opinions on whether I should upgrade? I like how it has a screen, I hated having to check my phone to see how pic turned out and had to take multiple pics to get what I wanted (because of no screen). I like to think of it as a great action cam, with good features to be used as a normal cam without breaking the hip pocket (in terms of best of both worlds). Obviously it can't compare to DSLR cameras or anything like that, but I think it's good for both purposes, or am I wrong to assume that?

No wrong, pretty good for that.
and the fact that looking at reviews it's got a linear mode now, which acts as a more normal mode without the fish eye effect, so acting more of a normal camera. So that is a definite help in that regard (assumption of mine)
It's waterproof without messing around with housings. It's fantastic value for that alone.

can understand if you were buying dozens, but I don't think buying one would be the end of the world, mainly if it's a large retailer where it seems more than 500-600 were sold, certainly don't think those sales where there's only 5 or 6 of an item should be resold though. Surely other than that it's fair game for just one?

I just got one, bad quality front LCD, smear on the corner. will return to the store.

front LCD quality was a common issue on hero 4. Now seems no improvement on 5. When power is off, change the angle to sunlight a very visible dark area on one of the corner of LCD. Which shows over pressure of LCD during assembly, which will be a potential of early defect. Now the display still ok functionally.
