Eurail Passes 20% Discount + Free Lonely Planet eBook

100

20% discount promotion applies to all Eurail Passes.

e.g. $3804 for two adults for 3 months continuous first class 'Global Pass'
(including postage and 'Protect my pass' insurance)
This is usually $4988 based on regular Eurail.com pass prices.

Note: Eurail website also has 20% off but isn't as cheap as STA and no free eBook.

Eurail 20% Promotion runs from October 1 until December 31, 2016 so I assume STA will be the same.
I actually found the Eurail promotion in my Gmail spam but thought it was worth sharing.

My experience:
We had first class Global pass for 3 month in 2013 .
Pass now includes more countries than 2013 (Bosnia, Croatia) but still no UK.
I guess Brexit means that will never change.

Good:
* Generally a great experience - almost all trains exactly on time (except a few in southern Italy).
* Free WiFi on Norwegian trains and probably more countries now I'd imagine.
* Fastest was 300km/h in Spain - displayed in carriage.
* Train between Denmark and Germany drives onto a ferry - very cool.
* First Class was great as rarely full.
* Eurail App 'Rail Planner' (on android) is amazing and works offline.
* Only had to show Passport once while on train between Austria and Italy, but imagine it maybe different now.

Bad:
* Additional 'Reservation' charge is required in some countries (e.g. Italy, France, Spain) which was quite expensive and had to queue up to get tickets.
* Bookings in same countries also a bit limited and sometimes sold-out.
(App 'R' means reservation required~pays to be organized and book entire country at once)

Careful buying the eurail passes, on the whole they are not considered good value (especially if your itinerary is pretty much planned). High speed and overnight trains need reservations (in addition to the original cost of eurail and not discounted). If travelling with kids may break even. Swiss half fare card appears good value (with kids and depending on what you are doing). Read http://www.seat61.com/ for lots of assistance.
