  • Any offers on the Microserver without the ram upgrade?

  • +1

Any deals on NAS as im looking to setup a Plex Media Server on one :D

    • I would recommend the QNAP TS-251+ / TS-451+ for home user.

Now we offer TS-451+ (Diskless) for $619 Shipped.
And we are still doing free double memory on all QNAP NAS till 16/10/2016 (Expandable model only)

If you are looking for particular model, please let us know and we will find the best price for you.

    • +1 waiting for a deal on the 8/12 bay Synology NAS.

    • I might be wrong, but I think the Seagate personal cloud is one of the cheaper ways you can use Plex media. You can download the Plex Media Server app through Seagate’s NAS app store.

      • does it do encoding well? Im quite new to this all and looking for something i can leave on and have all my media sitting on so my PC can be turned off haha

        • It won't transcode. I've spent a couple of days reencoding my movies into MP4 format. That's the limitation. I've got an apple ecosystem and used iflicks which was quick and easy

        • I'd personally buy one of the Microservers. They have 4 HDD bays and are designed to be left on 24/7. The downside is you have to manage your own OS (which is not that hard - Ubuntu or even Windows is fine). The upside is that it's a proper computer so you're not limited to the packages available for your NAS.

        • @dazweeja: Agreed. Microservers are great. If you want something which is plug and play then the personal cloud is better. However, if you were willing to put in even a little bit of time, then the micro server is far superior. You just need to install an OS and there are plenty of guides around to help you do it.

      • Hi,

Seagate personal cloud will work with Plex but transcoding is not supported.

Please see below for the NAS Compatibility List for Plex:

  • I'm delighted with the Seagate Personal Cloud 2x3TB I got for $299 through you guys recently. Now I'm wondering if I should move to a microserver because of this post!

  • Why do you need 4GB or 8GB of RAM for a file server/media streaming PC?
