  I changed the pricing to AUD on the website and tried example dates 16th-21st-28th Jan and got $3116.64 AUD as my lowest price.

  OP can you be a bit more specific about the currency as well as how you got your price?

  Qantas had $799 return a few months back.

  I've done the syd-hnl flight a few times now even with jet star, it's not that bad, about 9hrs. Just plan ahead with entertainment and food and the flight with Jetstar is pretty reasonable considering you can often get them for about $500-600 return
