What a deal I've been able to help negotiate for OzBargain. Sony has scored one final shipment of Z3 Compact Tablets at this crazy price. Not only is the price better than it's been before, you now get a free set of Noise Cancelling Headphones valued at $79 thrown in! Strictly while stock lasts. Backorders will not be fulfilled. One per order/customer only. Enjoy :)

Info on the free headphones here…

Email from Sony re out-of-stock headphones (11:50am Oct 18): If headphones go into backorder, we’ll fulfil 1:1 with tablets purchased. We have another 200 headphones landing soon. If anything, there may be a little delay but all customers will get the headphones.

Email from Sony re claims of refurbished units (1:16pm Oct 24): None of these products are upgraded or refurbished. Double stickering is part of the normal process and is due to our factory final inspection with random QA checks after production completion (this involves attaching security seal, then over attaching one more security seal for random QA checked units). If needed, software upgrades, insertion of leaflet/warranty card is done at the warehouse for which a re-seal is also required (however not in this case). Due to the volume of units, we would expect a few to be QA checked.

  • Got mine today as well.

It feels like a refurbished model. There were Sony sticker seals on the box, however they were over older stickers.

Also the plastic screen protector thing had bubbles around it as if it was reapplied.

    Anyone else notice this?

    • Is the screen protector useable (i.e. no logos or text on it)?

      • No its just a plastic cover to protect the screen. Not a actual screen protector.

        • Bubbles are normal then.

    • +3

Yes, mine is like that as well, not happy about it.

Sticker over another sticker that's cut. Bubbles all over screen protector. Will be contacting Sony to see what's going on. Paid for a new device so I expect it to be new and not refurbished.

      • +1

        Yup. Mine was very similar.

Very disappointing. If I new this was refurbished stock I wouldn't of even bothered. Gonna call Sony tomorrow and see whats up.

        • +1

          Keep us in the loop.

      • Please see updated OP with email from Sony.

    • Wow, with everyday, I'm more Glad I resisted this deal. They weren't opened to put the headphones in?

      • Hmm but how do you explain the dodgy screen protector with bubbles though… That's kinda lame!

        • That's not a screen protector. Just a protective cover you are meant to peel off. Many devices are like that. It's big and thin, making it hard to wrap without bubbles. But getting it on without bubbles is not a huge priority, because you're going to peel it off anyway.

      • Nah, the headphone comes with its own packaging. Both boxes are inside another cardboard box (no protection either, just scrap paper to fill the empty space with the tablet all the way at the bottom)

The tablet itself is very nice. Just the principle of buying something new but received something that's not (and who knows what's wrong with it)

    • Same here.

    • -2

yes, noticed the same thing, given all the problems I am also thinking mine is refurbished rather than new. Anyway to confirm?

      • Please see updated OP with email from Sony.

        • +1

thanks but not too convinced, screen protector was not put on properly and all bubbled and there was other marks indicated a refurb.
given the issues getting support on this thing and issues there must be a better explanation.

        • @paulojr: Out of interest, you seem to have bought yours way before this deal was posted, correct? Was it a Sony eBay purchase?

        • @tightarse: no I don't use the ebay store, was purchased directly from the sony store as per your link a few weeks back I think. Model code is SGP611A1B as ordered, same as the site now.

Who's the contact you're liaising with, I'd be keen to discuss with a real person at Sony Australia the quality issues of the units as the support team is level 1 (e.g. mindless, unable to even provide confirmation if the product has been delivered to design)

    • I didn't notice these, but looking at mine now I would not necesarily say that they are 'double stickered refurbs'. I think it may be a double layered sticker instead. If you seperate the layers each are quite different; the top is a very cleartype with has VOID written over it when removed, while the sticker underneath was much thicker and seemed more opaque, and gluey on both sides.

I could also not observe any alternate cuts in the lower layer apart from the ones I made (FWIW).

The screen protector is just a shipping protector and is meant to be pulled off. Mine didn't seem exceptionally bubbly, but I pulled it off without paying much attention.

The condition of my tablet (and box) is mint so I have no reason to suspect it's a refurb.

      • The bottom sticker was definitely cut when the top one is not. I was going to cut mine open as well, but when I noticed there were two stickers I peeled mine instead. As you can see from the bottom it was cut already, which doesn't make any sense.

        https://s17.postimg.org/kfqffwenx/M3008889.jpg

      • I bought one in a previous deal and it definitely did not have two stickers on the box. I don't recall there being massive bubbles on the plastic screen cover.

    • Here's a video of what the screen protector of a brand new unit should look like:

      https://youtu.be/rOCUiXpy20o?t=278

      vs what I received:

      https://s21.postimg.org/oi2r6o6p3/IMG_20161019_113902.jpg

      • Mine did not look that bad at all. It had 3 air bubbles only and I didn't think about that. Obviously checked the device and did not see any defects.

Might need to wait few weeks before I can claim my device is problem free :P

      • There are bubbles on his one as well btw.

      • Mine was not nearly as bubbly as yours (otherwise I would have noticed) I think must have been closer to his.

    • Please see updated OP with email from Sony.

  • +2

Got mine today and also noticed the box being opened and resealed. It could be that they changed the power plug to aussie one or added some localised paperwork. I would not sweat about it as the device looks brand new.

I was looking to buy this earlier but this deal was just too good to pass. Did not try the headphones yet but they were the trigger for me to buy the device.

I like the crisp screen and the performance compared to my Samsung note 8.0. Also the size and dimensions of this screen is awesome for movie watching. I hate 4:3 tablets.

Personally I don't use tablets much but this device might change my habits. Also the front facing speakers are nice, good for my daily youtubing. Might need to rethink what to do with my 6P, as it is now used only as an alarm clock :P

Already ordered 2 cases from Ebay for this one, have to be careful not to drop this thin device until they arrive :P

    • +1

I agreed. I would still buy this if it is refurbished. It looks new to me and the software update from 4.4.4 to 6.0.1 took forever.

      • I'm not afraid buying refurbished devices if they are manufacturer refurbished. Of course one should not claim brand new I'd they are refurbished.

I bought few refurbished LG tablets as gifts earlier this year and the bang for buck was awesome. My brother and my friend back home were very pleased :)

    • Please see updated OP with email from Sony.

  • Sorry TA, just to clarify;
I placed my order yesterday and received the delivery today, but there were no headphones in the package.
Will these be shipped automatically to me when Sony receives the back order you mentioned?

    • Same as me, my tablet just arrived but no headphones?

      • Yea same as me, ordered on Tuesday 18-10-2016, received today 20-10-2016, however no headphones. Hope it turns up in the next couple of weeks!

    • Will these be shipped automatically

That is correct. I've just contacted Sony and ETA for backorder headphones is around 10 days.

      • No comment on the refurbished accusations?

        • I'm curious to know about this too, did anyone take it up with Sony?

        • +2

        • Please see updated OP with email from Sony.

  • received today, no headphones!! will email customer service tonight.

Ordered one to mount into the dashboard of my car. Should arrive tomorrow but not loving the fact that it would be refurbished. I think we should all push for a partial refund :)

  • I have got mine today. I did not suspected them as refurbished but one thing is really annoying me that touch screen is very sensitive. Can't move page. When I swap it just open an app. I don't know it this is normal

    So I guess Christmas has come early for me by splurging out on this;

    1. Bought the Tablet

    2. Bought a 4G CarFi to go with it so I can dock the Tab to my car;
      http://www.optus.com.au/shop/prepaid/mobile-broadband/wifi/e…

    3. Bought a TV tuner for it, clearance price is $16 at Harveys!!!
      http://www.harveynorman.com.au/d-link-portable-digital-tv-tu…

Overall it's an awesome deal no matter how you look at it, your not gonna find a better Tab for this price.
If storage is an issue, just downgrade flash the OS (Check XDA).

    • +1

TV tuners now $14. Just purchased.

    • TV Tuner have a horrific antenna. Most of the time wont work.
However you can use the adapter to watch TV in your tablet/ phone with your Home TV AV receiver but its very unpractical

  • So is anyone else having a total nightmare with their orders?

8 days ago I ordered and nothing, no updates, nothing.

Having tried to cancel through the online chat I've no idea what's going on.

Anyone got a proper number to call?

    • +1

      Yes. Same here.

No order update, not shipped and no communication as of 25/10/16. It's completely fallen through the cracks.

I'm having the same experience with Online Chat too - they're not connected with the Sony Store so they can't see the order and can't do anything with it either. I asked for an update yesterday - got nothing. I've started with them again today and told them that waiting for an email is not good enough, nor is their "I can't help you" response. They've told me they'll escalate.

Where to from here? The Sony phone numbers advertised have no option for orders or the Sony Store. Online Chat is borderline useless.

      • Yep I don't know what to do I requested a cancellation but who knows.. 12 days now since I ordered and nothing.

Total joke. I think part of my issue is I ordered the black headphones which ended up being out of stock (2 days before they started giving the white ones away free).

But not being able to get in touch with them is incredible.

        • +2

Agree - it's the lack of communications and a human contact point that's the most frustrating element here.

I've called Sony today and they gave me this email address for contacting the store "directly" - [email protected] . They also told me if you reply to the original order email, from the [email protected] address, that they will actually get that reply.

I was also given the Sony Electronics phone number, 1300 137-669, but I was advised that they will likely just send an email to the store on your behalf. At least it'd be someone to talk to and perhaps they know something more about it.

But all round it sounds like email is the only contact avenue here and they're very selective about what they reply to and when. Poor customer service to say the least.

          Best of luck mate.

        • @poolroom: Thanks mate, just got in touch with them again for an update and they have NOTHING to tell me..

Totally given up on these fools. Awful awful 'service'.

        • +1

          @beebul:

Wow that is absolutely pathetic from their part.

Don't give up, just be persistent with them, maybe it's worth spamming their facebook page, then they might get off their backsides and investigate.

        • @montorola: Thanks, at this stage I'm just asking for a full refund as it's been two weeks. I've sent emails to both addresses that poolroom quoted.

        • @beebul: long store short, Yep, i'm having the same problem. ordered on the 17/10 and still waiting. tired online chat and 1300 number but no body can help. I left a message on their FB page today and surprisingly someone finally rang me. he said he still have no idea what's going on with my order from the online store.(can you believe it?) It seems there are a large number of customers having the same issue (order placed but it is not in their online store system) from the investigator. I'm just surprised how frustrated it is to order it on their online store even in 2016…. Anyway, he said he will ring me everyday to follow up until it is resolved. I will give it a few more days and by the end of this week if i still haven't receive it. I will definitely request a refund and never try Sony again. another not happy customer.

        • +1

@amashun: I'm just stuck in a loop - online chat saying they submitted my cancellation ages ago but nothing happens. I'll try Facebook thanks. This is really pathetic for a company of this size. They should totally get rid of the online chat as they have no authority to do anything and get a decent Customer Service team who are actually located at their 'store'.

Or you should just be able to cancel or change your order online FFS!

Sony UK are just as bad.

        • @beebul: I feel for you mate!! i don't think their online chat will help or care honestly. I tried it on last thursday, it just waste of time and bad experience. The operator just ask my details and after i gave it to them, first reply just ask me to wait 24-48 hours to investigate it and will response via email. there is no intention to help or apologies for the delay instead he just ask me "are we all set?" lol. Obviously after 48 hours there is no email send to us what so ever.
good luck for your refund, i'm requesting the same thing if their online store not care to response by end of business today. I can not wait forever for their product to arrive….

        • @amashun: Cheers man - posted on their facebook and at community.sony.com on the 'Customer Relations' thread. I'm sat here with a Sony SmartWatch and Xperia phone on the desk wondering why I still support this damn company!

          :banging-head:

        • @beebul: i just receive an email from them
"Our Sony Store team advises that the items should be delivered before the end of next week due to some delays on some items. Should you require any further assistance, please feel free to contact us by email or call our hotline from the numbers below. "

why some people ordered this tablet after me but already received it? this is just ridiculous….

        • @amashun: Some people have said they got their tablets within 20 hours of ordering.. I ordered 337 hours ago. Ha ha.. Sony Australia Facebook page said they are going to get someone to contact me. So hopefully I might get some news.

        • +1

          @beebul:

I hope for you guys Sony stuffs up again and gives you a refund, and then accidentally sends you the tablet also lol

        • +1

@beebul: I've done the same today - posted on their Facebook page. A few hours ago they replied back that they have my info and will get back to me ASAP.

Nothing yet… but at least it's something.

Looks like they're holding back shipping while waiting for headphones? Just a guess based on other posts above.

beebul - Our FB comments might have been right above each other. I can see a post there about another Xperia purchase.

        • @poolroom: Cheers poolroom, I actually buy a lot of Sony products (God help me!) starting from one of their earliest Walkmans (yep I'm old!) - Let's hope this is sorted out soon!

        • +1

@beebul: i just spoken to one of their Customer Relations Representative, i think i will request a refund. these guys just giving me too much headache and really not worth it at all.

they said they will send a refund request to their online store and they SHOULD do that within 48 hours. I ask what happen if they are not action that request again like what they have been doing since 17/10? next time when i ring up i would expect to speak to their manager for an immediate resolutions.

I really feel sorry for these guys just their online department can not do their job.

        • +1

@poolroom: "Looks like they're holding back shipping while waiting for headphones?"

no, the representative said there were a large number of orders for these tablet hence the delay. i thought the same as well and asked the same question, they said it wasn't the case

        • @amashun: Same I got a call off a woman who said she would put through a cancellation request for me… waiting to hear what happens.

The Saga of Sony :) haha

      • Just had a call to say mine has been dispatched.. with two sets of headphones(?!) I paid for one set.. I don't know what is going on now had nothing from DHL!

I noticed they are out of stock on the tablets now.

        The plot thickens.

        • speechless….

BTW, did you request a refund before? they didn't action that until now and ship you the stock?

        • @amashun: i just received an email saying it has been dispatched as well with tracking number. seriously Sony online is extremely unprofessional, no wonder business is going downhill with these people.

        • @amashun: I got another email with an invoice that says I have been sent the tablet and the free headphones (the white ones) and that I have been charged $279.. but no word about a refund (they owe me $50).

The DHL is showing the order as half way across Australia (halfway between Sydney and Adelaide.)

        • +1

@beebul: i got mine delivered today, thank god! Hope you will get yours soon mate.

        • @amashun: Mine arrived yesterday - tablet and white headphones… DHL van pulled up as I got home from work… Still waiting to see what happens about my $50 refund.

          Nice tablet though!

        • +1

@beebul: Congrats mate. hopefully our tablet is working fine for awhile otherwise i can't imagine to go through the same pain with Sony again. Reading up on their FB page seems this is pretty common.. :O

  • Got mine yesterday, the seals are good once only, not resealed. In my view, these tablet are just old stocks from the warehouse, not refurbished. Using it, the speed is pretty good comparing with my old samsung android tablet, even faster than my Note 4. Very happy with the purchase.

    • Did they send you the earphones?
      I'm still waiting on mine…

  • +1

eh no new tablets are coming out that are decent and this cpu is pretty old now

  • so lucky i didnt have money

  • +1

appears the "reviews" are rigged on the sony site too. Tried posting a review highlighting the concerns and there is no way to approve it.

Keen if anyone has resolved either the 5GHZ issue or SD speed issue.

  • Anyone from WA received their Z3TC?
My ConnectedView link hasn't moved since the 19th and my CView (two websites for some reason) has hazard markings next to the dates… I won't be concerned until the estimated arrival date though (26th).

  • +5

Got mine (I am in WA)

great little machine, no issues with packaging or box, all perfect straight out of box, all brand new.
    Headphones also sealed no issue.

So far its snappy and good, using mainly to watch media, it also has MHL which is good and tv remote control setting over mhl as well. Lots of little nice add-ons.

    From ebay going to get:
    * Case: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/391225161393?_trksid=p2057872.m27…
    * Magnet charge as dont want to keep opening water seal to get to usb: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/301575690615?_trksid=p2057872.m27…

    • +1

Also WA received today, downloading a marshy decided to splash out on both your suggestions, brilliant! thanks.

    • I would recommend a charging dock instead

And for the screen protector, do you reckon the stock screen protector good enough or should we buy the tempered one?

  • Got a reply from Sony finally regarding missing earphones:

    "Thanks for your order.
Unfortunately this is now out of stock and not coming in until next month."

I realise OP was in touch with Sony who said the same thing, however I wanted it in an email for myself .

    • Was the headphones a $0 item in your cart/invoice? or omitted from the documents altogether?

      • +1

Funny you say that. I ended up receiving MDR-NC31EM White earphones (I thought they were supposed to be black?) shipped to me via DHL yesterday 26-10-2016.

My timeline is as follows :

        18/10 - Ordered the tablet
19/10 - Got sony invoice with only the tablet listed
20/10 - Received Sony tablet (no earphones in the box) - shipped to Brisbane thru DHL courier
20/10 - Sent Sony off an email enquiring about missing earphones
25/10 - Got email reply from Sony "earphones currently out of stock and not coming in until next month"
25/10 - Later in the day I received an email from Sony with an invoice for Sony earphones with $0
26/10 - White earphones turned up via DHL

        Cool story !

I guess it might help sending Sony an email if you dont have the earphones listed in your invoice at $0 ? But then again, you might get the white version. I am yet to open up and try the earphones though. Looks good though.

  • Anyone using an actual screen protector on their tablets? is it necessary?

    • I don't use a screen protector on any device. I have used one on a phone many years ago, but they become scratched/frosted and ruin the experience of the device. The screen protectors are scratch prone while the screens are often gorilla glass and very scratch resistant. A screen protector won't stop a screen shattering if you drop it, and for the rest of the time a little common sense and care will protect the screen.

      • You haven't used/researched tampered glass screen protectors.

        • *Tempered, yes I have. If I were to run a screen protector then those are what I would use. However, I have yet to scratch/mark a screen so the $10+ times X devices would have been a waste of money anyway.

    • +1

Would definitely recommend getting a tempered glass protector like this. Unlike most other tablets (Apple, Samsung, etc), a small crack can render the complete digitizer (or at least part of it) useless.

      • Thanks for the link mate, I was looking at a screen protector but didn't have a clue which one was good. Cheers! :D

  • Contemplating on this for a while due to various comments in this thread but finally pulled the trigger and bought one on 24 Oct. The whole shopping experience was good and was impressed that I received the item yesterday (26 Oct). So it took only 2 days from ordering to delivered. Very impressive.

I have not got a chance to play much with the product but here what I can report if that helps others:

    • There is no double stickers on the box but I noticed that the sticker didn't stick very well anymore which is common considering this is old stock and the adhesive on the stickers might have dried up a bit.
    • No bubbles in the middle of the plastic that covers the screen. I noticed the plastic was lifted a bit on the corners but I am confident this is brand new
    • The bonus headphone came with the tablet
    • Have done numerous updates last night … maybe about 6-7 times … and currently is on 6.0.1. Not sure if there are more minor updates that are still oustanding

    Cheers

  • Can anyone comment on these headphones for blocking out talking in an office?

    • I tested them and tried to listen if the NC worked with the tablet, also tried to find info online if they worked with this tablet Or not. Did not notice if the NC was on or if the tablet supported it.

      Maybe someone knows?-)

  • Got mine a couple of days ago as we missed the first delivery. I had only one sticker at each side. screen protector was similar to others - had bubbles.

I am having a little glitch though. I want to disable any type of security on the screen but the "none" option in the security settings is missing. Has anyone also have this? If so, found a solution? I tried many things I found on the net to no avail!

  • +1

    yep. this is shit.
    - no communication from sony with regards to the shipping/delivery.
    - tried to log into mysony account and there is no history for my order although the money has already been deducted from my credit card.
    - finally received the order some time this week…
    - open the package to find that it looks like a refurbished model as others have stated above
    - received no receipt included in my package and NO HEADPHONES!
    not impressed…

    • I gather you didn't read the updated OP, or my responses to comments?

      • +1

I have read them. While your comments have been very useful and helpful, I can't help but feel annoyed with Sony and their customer service, thats all.

        • +4

Thanks for that. I'll definitely be passing this feedback on to Sony. But from what they've told me numerous times, you can rest assured the units are brand new, and not refurbs. Have a great weekend :)

        • @tightarse:

No offence TA, but from what I've read here, I wouldn't trust anything Sony says.

  • +3

So I placed my order on the 20th Oct, and still have not received my order yet…
    Trying to deal with Sony customer service has not progressed anywhere;

    1. Spoke to support on chat, where I was advised they would come back to me in two days, no response was received.
    2. Called Sony support directly, got the standard run around and pass through multiple departments to be told the case would be escalated.
    3. Called again to follow up, they advised they would escalate further to a case officer which will personally look into the matter and call me back.

All I want to know is the ETA on my order, it's that simple and I can't even get that answer from them until Sony AU responds.

The fact is that Sony store does not have a direct support department.
The people in the call centre can only email them and await a response (hard to believe, prob standard operating procedure).
I asked the rep, that if it's this hard to get a simple ETA, I'd assume the refund process would be even more difficult.

I stated I would prob have to go through lodging a refund request with them which would in turn be escalated to Sony Store Office through an approval process.
The rep totally agreed, and stated this is the only way they have to speak to people from Sony store.

I've got to say that I've managed an offshore call centre before, and processes & procedures such as these are very damaging to the Sony brand.
Off shoring is fine at the end of the day, though they need to gear their staff with the right systems and tools to handle simple everyday questions. i.e. WHEN IS MY PURCHASE GOING TO BE SHIPPED!?!?

I'm really starting to regret this purchase, to think that I am buying local and I they can't even get the product to me on time or their support right is disgusting.
