Sounds like they banged you up pretty good.

      Did they use lube?

"4GB RAM, 128GB ROM" -pretty sure it should be 4GB RAM, 128GB RAM .If I remember right from school RAM stands for random access memory (read and write) and ROM for read only memory (read only); as in CD-ROM. So you wouldn't be able to store anything on your phone if it was ROM…. Just sayin ;-)

    • +3

The 128GB is not random access. That means that when the phone switches off or reboots, everything stored on it is lost.

      RAM is volatile and temporary.

ROM has meanings outside of Read Only Memory. I wouldn't use it either, I'd just call it internal storage but they wanted an easy abbreviation that distinguished itself from RAM. The industry seems to have settled on ROM.

But ROM has also been used for the OS of the device. e.g. Rooted the phone and installed a new ROM.

      • Been a while since those school days (those were the days were you had 64 KB RAM ;-) ). Only remembered that ROM in the traditional sense isn't the correct term here. But you are right, now that I start thinking about it again the thing about RAM and volatility also rings a bell.

not user friendly but for anyone who is savvy with technology it's a must buy if youre in the market for a new phone!

  • I am looking a Pixel XL and then I see the price of this and I am put off by the price of the pixel.

cheap cheap cheap! but i don't see people using it other than the Chinese in Melbourne. Do people in Australia really buy it?

  • +1

Really good price! Boo! I bought the 64gb 3gb ram for $500 (already was shipped to Melbourne). Been using it for a week now.

    Things to consider:
-no band 28. I'm with optus. 4G is fine. Reception is fine (I am mostly in Melbourne cbd)
-both cameras are actually quite good IMO. I believe it got an upgrade compared to the MI 5? Not sure.
-a fair bit of bloatware (half the stuff you can Uninstall)
-you can set it up straight to English (I don't speak nor can I read nor am I of Chinese decent).

The miui 8 does have a lot of battery saver abilities which can be frustrating (e.g. Push abilities being restricted), however there are countless threads on the net to help with fixing the settings.

    Hope this helps.

Do they come with the explosive battery too?

    • Lamest comment 2016. No one else respond to this Muppet.

  • Does it have Google Play store? Don't want to spend hours installing APKs…

    • Google play Store doesn't come pre installed. Had to google/download 'Google installer', it works just as normal.

    • No, it doesn't. This phone & OnePlus 3 are basically for people who treat their phones as a toy.

      • You have to install Google play Store on your own. It took about 3 minutes to search and install.

  • Mi5s looks like a great phone but does it have any benefits over OP3?
Edit: Maybe ~-$150 in price is a good place to start

    • it has better camera, but apart from that…..

  • I was a previous owner of a Redmi note 3 and whilst the xiaomi phones are definitely some of the best for the price you pay, you do also get a few quality of life issues (that I personally couldn't live with) at that price point.

The biggest issue is with the MIUI rom (and any other custom roms you run) and compatability. When I first got the phone it refused to run with LTE/4g but an update fixed that. However, the most recent update has broken bluetooth compatability with my car as well as bose sound system. Being someone that often has to pick up calls whilst driving, this was simply not something I could take so I went and grabbed a cheap Samsung.

However, these are all minor issues. If you simply need a standalone phone that has good specs, great battery life and is quite reliable (not as much as flagship brands, but hey you're paying 1/3 of the price), xiaomis are usually a great buy. Probably also really good for your kids/elderly parents/grandparents who aren't too techy.

Also, a good tip with all xiaomi phones. Read the forums before you update the MIUI rom, sometimes the updates break more things than they fix.

If only gray was available at this price :(

don't get the 3GB versions, future androids be all 3GB to start with, the OS eats 1.6 GB + ram at boot!!!!
I only got 700 mb free after all the necessary third party apps loaded

  • Says over $600 AUD for me. Big difference

    • It was only for 1st 500 preorders. I think they already passed it.

      • +1

Bought one just now, works fine for me at $464 AUD

    • Did you apply the coupon and check the total for the shipping cart?

  • I'm the 368 to pre-order the phone on October 21 and have just received the confirmation email from Banggood that Xiaomi Mi5s is out of stock and it will be restock on November 30 2016. Has anyone pre-order the phone earlier received the shipping confirmation?

    • I contacted them yesterday via 24/7 chat and been advised the phone will be back in stock on November 10 and later will be delivered.
If you were 368th customer, I would recommend you to contact them, share the order number & ask for the stock availability. Hopefully, it should be available after November 10.

    • I ordered on Oct 19th, not sure what # customer I was. Probably around similar time.

In my account the shipping date has stayed steady at order date + 30 days = 18th November.

On live chat now however - they are saying 30th November. So I'm cancelling my order.

    • Waiting game now. I just received another email reply "For your order 2003xxxx,if your order still don't ship out on 10th of November, would you mind contacting us again? Then we will give you a solution,."

  • Apparently express shipping not available from HK Warehouse. Got an email to change it back to tracked air mail which is 5 to 25 days + refund of shipping extra

    Anyone else get this.

    Bought mi5s 64gb
