me after castrol edge let me know if that goes on special

  • Castrol edge better or nulon?

I personally prefer Nulon (partly because its Australian). But for full synthetic on the same viscosity, the difference should be very little, tho some claim Castrol Edge runs slightly better on European engines. You can try both and see which one the altezza likes better ;)

Used both Castrol and Nulon over the years. Found very little difference in terms of mileage, smoothness and wear protection. Both oils performed well in my Japanese car. I buy whatever is on sale normally.

I would point out (after speaking with a few technical people) that diligent oil changes is the key to maintaining a sound engine, particularly to sludge formation and acid buildup.

Most mineral oils last about 5000km. While synthetics last about 10,000-15,000km. Use whatever you prefer without worry.

    • If you find that the oil is going dark significantly before the change interval, it could be time for your old car to have an engine flush (either with ATF or an engine flush fluid). Read up on it before attempting obviously.
Generally, the key to motor oils is the base. Group I being the worst and Group V being the best and while they all market differently, they get their base oils from the same company and just add their own additives (generally). Also the more additives the shorter the shelf life.

  • As the owner of a small diesel, what grinds my gears is that nulon std synthetic 5w30 isn't acea rated. I only need no dpf b4 spec. I reckon this would be OK and make the spec but they want to push you into their diesel range. Castrol edge is b4 spec, same with shell helix and slot of others.

So I buy those because I can use that on both my i30 diesel and our late model petrol outlander. I got 10l of this nulon for $60 one time but it sucked not having that flexibility.
