        • "+" didn't work for me, adding "." did though.

        • Hi yycan, can you please explain where to add the ".". I am doing a testing from hotmail, I added the "." at the end of my email, I received an error message for delivery failure. But when I added "+" at the end and send an email from my hotmail, the email went through to gmail.

        • @yycan:

A "." in a Gmail email address is ignored.

Eg: [email protected] and [email protected] are the same email address as far as GMail is concerned.

(Try it if you want - take your @Gmail.com email address and stick a random dot or two into it.)

So adding a "." won't have the same effect. Ie: [email protected] and [email protected] are completely different email addresses and accounts.

        • Thanks drsmithy, just tested it. yes, it works as per your instruction. Thank you for the clear instruction and also provided the examples. I just try to find an easy way to register Vpay vouchers instead of register for more email address.

        • @Purple: So [email protected] didn't work for me for some reason, it told me that the email address is invalid for having + in it. It apparently worked for others. However, I was able to use [email protected] or [email protected] or [email protected]. They all go to the same address.

        • yycan, thank you for getting back to me. Thanks for all the examples, I do not need to create more Hotmail address :) So happy! You and drsmithy made my day !

        • @yycan:

Ah, OK, I think I see what you're trying to do now, I misunderstood.

Yes, you can use a "." in random places in your GMail address to simulate multiple addresses, because that "." will be ignored. But you are ultimately limited by how many "."s your email address will allow you to insert (eg: if it's only a few letters long you don't have many possibilities). :)

The idea of using [email protected] is that you can then use the arbitrary +BLAH text on the GMail side in filtering rules (or to figure out which sites you subscribe to get you on spammer lists).

        • HI drsmithy, Very smart thinking. Thank you for further clarification and assistance. I appreciate that. Have a pleasant day ahead :)

      • +1

Just because it wasn't entirely clear, that also means when you go to login to your vPay account to "manage" the voucher, you need to use the [email protected] as the login.

        • Thanks for darthsparrow's input and drsmithy's clarification. Thank you kindly.

  • Next up Gerry Harvey will be calling professionals taking advantage of gift cards and it will be in the news. You heard it here first.

Hi Gerry You are a controller

    • The thing is that for him it's a boon for his store. They still get the sales in fact this will mean I'll buy from them rather than elsewhere. It's foolhardy to me why they would act as the T+C police damaging their brand rather than Amex's

It somebody claimed a GC and didn't get the cash back that's on the consumer and not on HN

        • It's stupid. The guy said he was calling everybody and even mentioned orders with the brands. It's the stupidest thing I've heard of.

I'm caught between a rock and a hard place too as I want to escalate the complaint however might draw more attention to the practice.

My point being that effectively what they are saying is that you can't buy a GC with Amex onlin

        • +1

@chrig: Just go instore and buy it?

        • @Turd:

I'm going to it's just I'm more disappointed as to the way they handled it. I can't believe it and it's somebody taking their job far too seriously

        • +1

its a classic case of … "oh .. you actually getting a good deal … well fu!ck you!!" … i mean .. how the (profanity) do they lose? really? its amex whos putting the deal on even if it costs something to gerry.

never think about the benefits of an actual promotion .. ie get people in the store to see how good your service is .. at a time when the likes of amazon is going to enter the market and absolutely decimate you.

        • @hippyhippy:

Exactly. As I said the to the guy on the phone HN are coming out looking stupid out of this not AMEX. They probably made the offer overly generous and should have gone $50 if this is how they are dealing with it

  • +1

AMEX took away the statement credit. So I guess I'll have to purchase from HN now.

  • I have NAB Issued Amex. I got $100 Cr on the credit. Then Below that credit there is another $20 as well. Just wondering anyone else also got it ?

    • If you participated in the Woolies Spend $100 get $20 back - might be in relation to that….

      • Got same description (transaction Details) as 100 CR …

        • Oh than I'm not too sure

        • I vaguely remember nab sent through a flyer with HN cash back offer in last month's statement. Didn't pay much attention to it at that time but I think is something like $20 back with $100 spend.

        • @macadamia: I think That might be it… you are right…

  • -1

Can I shop $98 at one HN store and the rest $202 at another HN store and get the statement credit?

    • -1

      Read?

      Yes

It says in the first sentence of the offer.. "Save the offer to your Card and spend $300 or more, in one or more transactions, in-store or online at Harvey Norman by 30/12/16 to receive one $100 credit."

I apologise if English is not your first language.

    • +1

      yep

  • I've got a welcome offer for Woolworth's (Spend $30, receive $15 credit). Does anyone know if this extends to BWS? Or is it just Woolworths? Granted I could probably just go to a Woolworth's which has a BWS attached, and pay for BWS items in the supermarket section.

    • BWS bills as BWS not Woolies, so it wouldn't work. If you can pay in the supermarket, then that would be OK, but I'm pretty sure they won't let you walk out with a bottle of grog into the supermarket? (Liquor licensing laws and all that). Happy to be proved wrong.

  • Hi Guys,

Has anyone registered and used their card at harvey norman furniture,i just want to clarify that we will received $100 credit for spending at harvery norman funiture.

    • Yes, furniture is part of Harvey Norman :-)

    • Just make sure their EFTPOS terminal bills as Harvey Normal and not as Domayne!

  • If you're trying to activate multiple Vpay, I suggest using "." in your email address rather than adding "+" at the end. Adding "+" didn't work for me.

  • Hi folks, quick question from an Amex n00b. I just applied for an Essentials card so I could use the Harvey Norman deal. Is 60000 redemptions a lot in the context of things and will last a while? Or do these deals go pretty quick and expire before I even get my card? Cheers

    • +1

60,000 is a lot as far as most Amex offers go (usually in the single thousands?) but nobody can really say whether it's close to being oversubscribed or not. Usually you only find out when people start posting in the comments that they couldn't register. So you should be OK for now at least…

      • Thanks for the advice! Hopefully I'll be ok

  • an interesting point I just noticed reading the full offer Terms & Conditions for the HArvey Offer
it says "for full terms & conditions, click here

when you read those, it's interesting to see the Excluded Transactions Clause

    C. Transactions that are not eligible

*The following transactions are not eligible and will not count towards your spend for the purposes of the offer:
    *transactions where you do not spend directly with the merchant (for example, if you buy the merchant’s goods through a third party department store);
    *transactions processed through a third party payment processor (for example, PayPal);
    *transactions that are subsequently cancelled or refunded;
*transactions where you buy a gift card, store credit or a voucher.

now I'm no lawyer, but I don't see Apple, Miele, .etc. products listed as an Excluded Transaction
(yes I know they are higher up on the page where my "click here" link is!)

    any legal folks on OZB?

      1. Good luck arguing that.
      2. Does it matter? AMEX will not know what you have spent money on. This question gets asked time and time again, and the answer is always the same. You will get credited for Apple, Miele, gift cards, etc, etc, as long as they are put through the same terminal as other transactions.
    • +1

Crap, paid with paypal and didn't get any confirmation email, not to mention the $100 refund. It was more than a week ago. Now I know why.

  • Anyone manage to get more VPay from Harvey Norman.. ??

  • Where do they put the gift cards? I can't seem to find at the counters or anywhere. Actually I can't seem to find gift cards of any sort, not even iTunes. Do they hide all gift cards now?

    • Some HVN doesn't sell any gift card

  • Bought 5 Vpays voucher from HN and used to pay electricity and Bupa. Received emails secs after the payments.

    • when did you buy and which store ?

    • -1

Was it today? What denomination did you buy? I was told only $100 and below are in stock, $150 and above out of stock nationwide.

      • Damn. So you would need to purchase 3x$100 denomination HN gift cards then. Too bad they didn't just make each card generic and allow any value to be added.

Also last week at HN Chadstone I tried getting a new iPhone 7s plus and Apple Watch 2 Nike edition and not only none in stock (no surprise) but could not even back order one.

        • That's odd they didn't let you back order one. All iPhone 7 plus are out of stock at my local HN and I was able to put a deposit down to reserve the phone. They said it should be coming in next week.

        • For HN gift cards you can state exactly how much you want on the gift card; we did that last weekend. I think the others are referring to VPay cards.

        • @puffy: did u get the $100 credit for the physical gift card ?

        • @spk: just then (Friday 11 Nov) bought a $600 gift card at HN Geelong using two Amex. I processed the first $300 and waited 10 seconds for the email to come (it did) then did the second $300 (no email - which has happened in the past).

Before I did the purchase I had a quick look at their receipt spike and made sure I saw that it was HN instead of Domayne etc.

I expect to see $100 credit come through on both cards and I'll let you know in 5 business days when it happens. .

To clarify I got a physical $600 HN gift card.

        • @danielh: got the second email about ten minutes later.

        • @spk: yes I have received all the credits within 2-3 days.

        • Just got another $900 gift card at HN Chadstone (VIC) on three AmEx cards. Got emails for all three.

        • @danielh: can confirm that I got my 2 x $100 Amex credits on Tuesday. Two business days after I got the $600 HN gift card.

      • I bought 5 * $300 vpay. each cost $5.5. but very hard to use. Tried to use it on different things including water, Apple store card but all declined. arwwg#%%#@%^&. only things working were Bupa and electricity. WA store

  • does the vpay work to pay your ato bill online? has anyone tried?

  • It says 60,000 cards only. How do you know if you aren't the 60,001?? It says exclude apple product. Can someone confirm the $100 credit has been credited? I feel a bit risky to buy an iphone and don't get the credit back………

    • I think a few have already confirmed in comments if able to get credit or not.

    • If you're accepted when registering, you're within 60000. If you're outside, it'd reject your registration. It's the registration, not the spending time that count.

      • ok thanks! it seems work for me with the registration! But no stock on the SE for the color i want. :(

  • +1

I don't think Harvey Norman sells Apple Watch Nike edition. Anyways bought one space gray alum at HN nunawarding for $579 add on a charger total $600 Amex sponsor $200 so $379 for my watch happy gem here!

    • did you get the credit?

      • Just bought today still pending transaction.

        • you mean you got the emails from amex and just waiting for the credit now?

        • @crentist: yes

        • @mooreshady: update? credit for apple product. I know it is excluded in T&C but some seem to have luck?

        • +1

          @koala9:

Ai Ai sir! Received my $200 credits on 2 Amex cards. So yup Apple stuff is included.

  • +1

Just bought $600 gift cards from HN (in store)
    Received emails.

    • Which hn?

      • Wiley Park, NSW

        • these gift cards arent the vpay ones people are talking about is it?

        • @hippyhippy: No. HN gift card only for HN.

        • @bbqwer: You are correct. I purchased HN gift cards to buy an iPhone 7 Plus.

Lady at the counter asked me if its for the AMEX offer, I said Yes and she said Gift card purchases are not eligible.

I said I still need them and purchased it, Received email. Fingers crossed for the Credit.

        • @spk:

At least you didnt get the 'we are reporting all transactions to AMEX rubbish'

The more I think about it I actually dont understand why AMEX would even have an issue with it - it will eventually be spent with HN at some stage

Here is my theory of the offer

Retailers negotiate with AMEX for transaction fees. Amex say we will not move on the fees past a level but say we will support your business by these initiatives by driving sales within a certain period. GC's from an accounting perspective would be treated as a liability (?) and HN must have been asked by Asko Miele etc to not discount hence why they put the T+C there

        • +1

          @chrig:

those asko miele things in the t and c are standard for them. it must be in their contract with asko and miele to never allow any discounting on them.

        • @chrig: No Gerry Harvey tax on gift cards!!! 1000% markup is what he would love to do.

    • Do you have to get the gift cards in store? Can you just buy an egift card?

  • Got anothe Vpay. Trie to used it to get an apple store card but declined. any one know what else i can do with the vpay voucher?

    • Did you get it just recently? I thought it was sold out since Sunday?

      • +1

Went into HN Gordon today. They are still saying out-of-stock on VPay.

        • If you noticed or have done vpay, it cant be 'out of stock'. it's just that the system most likely was blocked OR was 'maxed' out. it's similar to opal topup system. You get a receipt paper scan code not a physical piece of cardboard.

        • @Turd: i done vpay before. It can be out of stock. Terminal eftpos ( green ) did mention out of stock.

        • @bbqwer: Yeah that's what I mean. The system ran out of 'credits' like when certain woolies or stores run out of 'opal recharges' for the day.

        • @Turd: The $300 question then becomes does anyone know if VPay will become available again? And when?

        • +2

@BellaWii: Tweet Gerry Harvey and ask.

      • I was able to purchase vpay on Thursday night from my local Harvey Norman.

        • Which store is this?

        • @BellaWii: Maitland,NSW so not a very busy store compared to city stores. They actually still had Visa cards on the giftcard rack but they all had expiry of 10/16.

  • Harvey Norman probably noticed a high amount of vpay transactions and went (profanity)!!! We arent making our gerry harvey 1000% markup tax on it.

Let's stop doing it, and at the same time let's stop gift cards.

Hell let's stop professionals doing their jobs!!

    • +2

I can understand the VPay logic, but HN gift cards need to be eventually spent at HN too, right? Yeah, it'd mean ppl can wait to use it during the sale (as oppose of rushing to buy anything), but some might forget to use it before expiration date. So, not much lost for HN?

  • Does anyone know if Harvey Norman sell Telstra Mobile Recharges? Just trying to think of other ways to spend if the VPay option is now gone.

    • Not sure, but they sell iTunes & GPC, not sure if that'd be a bargain though.

  • +1

The manager at Broadway had an issue with multiple amex cards and the cashier girl didn't understand why. Then someone came and told me that they could take multiple payments but only 1 amex card allowed. I told them to cancel my order and was ready to leave. 2 amex cards were suddenly accepted. Thank god the manager wasn't around.

Reading previous comments, I thought they only had issue with gift cards. Definitely the branch to avoid.

Still quite happy with Ipad Air 2 32gb + case and after TRS, it will be less than $350.

  • Just confirming that I bought GC worth $300, and got a confirmation email right away! Hopefully my $100 comes through soon.

    • Hi, did you buy a physical GC or an egift card?

I see everyone buying gcs but not egift cards, wouldn't it be the same thing? :S

      • Harvey Norman online was not allowing egift cards to be bought and now people are waiting on refunds for gift cards they never received.

      • Both physical and eGift cards are accepted online and in store.
        just confirmed via online chat.

        • But apparently HN don't allow egift cards to be bought?
