Masters 40% off

230

Masters has upped the discount from 30% to 40%. Might be just the right amount to start pulling the trigger for some people.

I'll wait for the extra 10% off total amount

    • Should come through Monday, right?

  • +10

Getting closer what their normal sale prices are normally.

  • +1

some sections are up to 70% atm, some at 50% lots at 40 & 30….my local has basically been cleaned out. scored some ok stuff but really not much stock left at all
my advice take in a list of stuff you need and make sure youve taken measurements first

    • I did that, found one item I needed and then blew another hour and a heap of fuel going to Bunnings getting the rest…

      • my masters is directly opposite my bunnings on the same road…so went there first rest of my crap from the other across the road ;)

        • +1

Yeah Bunnings seems to sell all the crap stuff that Masters would not even touch with a 10 feet pole but tradies would.

Eneloops - oh sorry their best deals were actually before liquidation actually began.

    • "Up to"…

      • +2

        "Up to"…

Why not post the full discount instead of posting part in an attempt to mislead.

40% TO 70% is pretty clear.

    • +3
      • …nice!

      • Was that pre or post liquidation? I got the pyro version for 650 prior to the liquidation

    • +2

I got a couple of door mats for $2 each.

    • Some stuff is rubbish or overpriced I agree, but we got enough Permadeck Timber to finally build our new deck (7M x 5m I think), at over 50% off RRP, AND they seemed to miscalculate at checkout so we saved another $150 on top of that.
Total spend $2,100, total savings $2,600.

Plus my husband bought a heap of those weatherproof outdoor power boxes for $4 each. Came with a 4 point adapter, and a plug in timer (great for those lights on timer while on holiday). A good buy even if you don't need the actual outdoor power box its all in.

Waiting for some WAHU pool toys to go to mega-cheap so I can buy the kids one for xmas. If I miss out, I miss out, but I'm not paying anywhere over 50% of retail….

Also got interior house paint at 50% off, which was great considering we're repainting the entire house right now.

  • +2

Some things like fixings were good value at 60-70 odd percent off, but of course I wasn't doing a project at the time so I had no idea what things I'd need in future. Anything I actually thought would be future proof like a drop saw or a SDS drill were still a bit too much. Did find some decent Wattyl metal paint though. My experience of Adelaide is that it's really not a whole lot of decent gear left unfortunately.

  • So what's the exact percentage of discount as of now? There are so many "extra 10% discount" emails and posts. Makes me feel it's 10% extra on the original 10%, then any subsequent 10% is like, 0.1%, and so on…

    • Extra ten percent was actually 7% of the total, so 37% but that will now reduce
It will be 40% + 6% if the extra 10% is taken off the remaining 60% at the checkout
      Get it. Got it, Gone

      • It doesn't work that way. If Masters has upped the discount from 30% to 40%, then the discount is 40%.

  • +1

Went to my local today. Basically a graveyard already, nothing decent left.

At least I got a cheap toolbox. But yeah, the discounts didn't seem any different from the last time I went. Feels like this is all smoke and mirrors.

    • luck of the draw really…i needed some security fixtures and got them at about 60-70% off…
eg $58 item for $23.50 (….and thats the exact same price bunnings is charging atm so that was a steal in that case …as well as a few other items
all up bought about $200 of door & window furniture for about $70 ;)

  • +8

Bloody bargainers have cleaned out the masters store before the real discounts have kicked in - how thoughtless!! 😀

    • +14

i wouldn't call them 'bargainers'. gullible yes, bargainers no.

      • thats my thought too….only now are the real bargains happening and 75% of the stock is already long gone :P

      • +11

I would not call them gullible. Well not all of them.
As I've said before, we've been renovating a couple of places all this year and have been saving a bloody fortune in recent times. Not everything is a bargain, but there have been plenty of excellent buys if you do your research and compare.

Plenty of people come here and rubbish the prices, but I doubt if many of them have actually gone in store and compared items to elsewhere or are just people with some kind of grudge.
Some clown here tried to tell me that Honda generators were not a bargain at the 50% off prices they had. Doubt the kid rarely leaves his bedroom and has any real clue.

        • +1

yeh i wish we had our 'planned next to do project' water tank now… 50% off the whole damn plumbing section :(

Window treatments are now 70% off.

  • +1

Masters has upped the discount from 30% to 40%

    DISCOUNT ON WHAT?

No substantiation, no link to product, no examples, no specifics.

This is not a "deal"… it's just vague rubbish.

    • +3

It's the minimum discount on their remaining stock, if you want to know what's remaining go in store and have a look, is it really that hard to comprehend.

      • Blow $10 on fuel, see nothing you want but junk and items that might be worth buying are overpiced - end up at Bunnings anyway.

        • +6

Well if you just need something small/cheap then it's not worth it is it. I've literally saved 1000's and will save even more as discounts continue to increase.
I am really struggling to follow the logic of "there are no bargains for me therefore they don't exist" mentality of some on here.
If you have proof that there aren't any bargains offer it up, if not just move along like you would with other deals you don't really know much about.

      • -1

It's the minimum discount on their remaining stock,

How exactly could anybody know that? Crystal ball?

is it really that hard to comprehend

Is it really that hard for an OP to post something clearly? Link doesn't go anywhere (I clicked that)

Anyway - is this "minimum discount" actually verified?

I just googled and found this on Facebook - not sure if it is permanent, or just another one of their silly promos

FB page, or look in store

Is it really that hard for an OP to post something clearly? Link doesn't go anywhere (I clicked that)

Post could do with a "minimum of" in the title and description, but apart from that it seems ok to me, a link to the FB page would be better too.

Anyway - is this "minimum discount" actually verified?

Again FB page, when I was there today there was a minimum of 40% off.

not sure if it is permanent, or just another one of their silly promos

Nothing is permanent they are closing in 5 or so weeks. I don't know what you qualify as silly but if you mean for a limited time then they don't say that so I think we can safely assume it isnt.

        • @tryagain:

FB page, or look in store

And we'd know there was a Facebook page how? I only found it when I tried googling to try and verify the 40%.

Nothing is permanent they are closing in 5 or so weeks.

          Well, DERRRR.

I don't know what you qualify as silly but if you mean for a limited time then they don't say that so I think we can safely assume it isnt.

Yes, I mean "for a limited time".

Keep in mind that the vast majority of humans DO NOT USE FACEBOOK.

So, since the OP never mentioned Facebook…. consider the wording (and complete lack of info) in this deal in isolation, as a "stand alone" deal. It'd be negged for lack of details.

Masters 40% off makes prices the same as what they were before going out of business.

I have been to Masters a few times, hoping for a bargain.
their discounted price is same if not more expensive than Bunnings.

    walked away disappointed every time.

Name some items because I haven't been able to see anything that is higher then the Bunnings price especially when the discounts are 40 to 70% off the regular price.

      walked away disappointed every time.

Maybe the issue is your unrealistic expectations? I've spent around $1500 in the last few days and saved at least the same.

      • +1

That's my first comment. It just shows how much of a good job Bunnings have done with perception that they are cheaper. I have renovated over the last year and found Masters quality of stock and prices were on the whole better.

People rarely back their statements on here with what products were specifically cheaper

  • I think my local pretty much shut its paint department back when it was 10% off. It had signs up about how certain colours couldn't be mixed and there was no one there. There was still plenty of paint available to buy.

Pity I actually need to buy some coloured paint, Masters.

  • Are they still offering the extra 10% off for bunnings trade card holders?

    • Are they still offering the extra 10% off for bunnings trade card holders?

Why would they? That was a limited deal for TWO days.

      • -1

I don't know why they would…. Was simply asking if it was an ongoing offer, as I had 3rd hand information that it was ongoing. My apologies that a simple question seems to have upset you so.

I went to masters last Monday looking for a door Lock. $79 with 40% off made it $47. The exact same Lock is $49 at Bunnings or $36 on eBay.

  • I walked the whole shop and the only thing I found worth buying was a double adapter for $1.61

    • ?I walked the whole shop and the only thing I found worth buying was a double adapter for $1.61

Clearly you didn't need anything as there are thousands of bargains in there.

  • Got 12 kitchen scrubbers for $0.83!

My local Masters is Heatherbrae - just north of Newcastle.

They have a lot of stock left, but a lot of it is crap.

The whitegoods section is completely sold out with the exception of about 6 ovens.

You want a flourescent light? - sold out
You want a bathroom fan/light/heater like IXL tastic? - sold out
You want a water pressure sprayer? - Sold out except a no-name brand made only for Masters

There are still some bargains to be had (and more now) but stock is thinning super fast.

I paid $48 for some LED downlights they said were worth $90.
Same downlight $20 on EBAY everyday :(

    I bought some roller blinds for 60% + 10% off - paid $48.
Almost exact same blind everyday price in Bunnings I found out later that day = $49.

Stainless steel house numbers - 70% off, paid $17
Everyday price at Bunnings = $12.

If you go, know what you are buying is worth in the real world beforehand or check prices with your phone. Don't do that and you should prepare to be ripped off…

    • +1

Same downlight $20 on EBAY everyday

Are they safe and comply with Australian standards? Im concerned of buying a Ho Mai brand that may burn the house down.

    • +1

Stainless steel house numbers - 70% off, paid $17
Everyday price at Bunnings = $12.

You can't compare the house numbers as the ones at Masters are far more detailed and varied. For a start they have the 3D House Numbers, the huge house numbers and the general 150mm high ones were under $20 before 70% off. These are around $20 at Bunnings so you get a 70% saving.

For example Scope Living 150mm Stainless Steel Number Floating Stud Mount Reverse Image $20.98 at Masters before 70% off which took it to $6.29. Stainless Steel is around 4mm thick - http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-Scope-Living-150mm-Number-4-S…
No direct equivalent at Bunnings but this is the same size but only 1.5mm thick stainless steel and it's priced at $19.95 - https://www.bunnings.com.au/sandleford-150mm-8-stainless-ste….

      I bought some roller blinds for 60% + 10% off - paid $48.
Almost exact same blind everyday price in Bunnings I found out later that day = $49.

I've seen the opposite, Masters prices were equivalent to Bunnings everyday prices in most cases and often higher quality, I have no idea why you believe they were so far apart because it's absurd to claim that Masters sold equivalent blinds for nearly double the price.

I paid $48 for some LED downlights they said were worth $90.
Same downlight $20 on EBAY everyday :(

Provide some links because this also sounds like bollocks. And it also sounds like you can't research prices and suffer from buyers remorse when you see something that looks similar.

If you go, know what you are buying is worth in the real world beforehand or check prices with your phone. Don't do that and you should prepare to be ripped off…

So why do you claim that you were ripped off by Masters? Maybe you should compared apples to apples as I pointed out in the stainless steel house number example where I provided PROOF that Masters pricing was equivalent to Bunnings and for a better product. Your comparing of Apples to Watermelons approach (and without any links) is devoid of logic.

        Maverick

15 posts since 2013, nearly half for Masters "deals".

You seem to love Masters which is great for you and them. You must be very upset they are closing.

I don't need to provide you proof, but you are welcome to come to Heatherbrae and see for yourself.

Bear in mind Bunnings web site sucks - so a lot of the stock they have in store is not on their web site.

The house numbers I bought from Masters are virtually identical to the ones at Bunnings, same applies to the blinds. The numbers I bought are not the 3d versions, just plain flat stainless.

I am sure there are certain decent buys at Masters (if stock left), but for the items I chose to buy I supposedly got 60%+ off items, yet paid the same as Bunnings everyday prices.

I don't use a smartphone so no chance to compare prices in store. I went to Masters without knowing exactly what I wanted. Things I would have really liked were already sold out - like IXL Tastics.

I trusted at 60%+ off I must be getting good buys on the blinds, LED lights and house numbers - I was wrong, I wasn't.

My experience is repeated by many buyers in this thread - even at over 60% off the supposed original Masters prices, a lot of items are more expensive than they are at everyday Bunnings prices.

If the original prices before discount were really the Masters selling prices, no wonder they went out of business because anyone who did to price research would never have bought from them.

Also check your maths - with the blinds they were 60% + 10% off the apparent original price - that means their original price must have been closer to 3 times higher than the Bunnings price, not 2 times as you have stated.

        • 15 posts since 2013, nearly half for Masters "deals".
You seem to love Masters which is great for you and them. You must be very upset they are closing.

There is no love for Masters and I'm not upset aside from the lose of competition and resulting lack of range and high pricing at Bunnings that follows. I spend a lot of money on renovations and spend a lot of time at Bunnings and Masters so I know the pricing between the stores on many products is comparable across the range and that the quality is often better at Masters.

I don't need to provide you proof, but you are welcome to come to Heatherbrae and see for yourself.

I just provided proof that your claims were wrong. You seem intent on badmouthing Masters for some reason.

Bear in mind Bunnings web site sucks - so a lot of the stock they have in store is not on their web site.

Bollocks, I checked the stainless steel 150mm numbers on the trade site and I know the pricing instore anyway which is around $20 for a 150mm numeral.

My experience is repeated by many buyers in this thread - even at over 60% off the supposed original Masters prices, a lot of items are more expensive than they are at everyday Bunnings prices.

Utter bollocks, I'm sorry but no-one has posted any evidence to prove that this occurs or is widespread and to continue to say it is nothing but absurd. 60% higher prices across a lot of the range… what a ridiculous claim to make.

I trusted at 60%+ off I must be getting good buys on the blinds, LED lights and house numbers - I was wrong, I wasn't.

I have provided proof that your claim was wrong so how about your provide some proof or give it up. The facts are that the stainless steel house numbers were always better value at Masters, the LED lights were always comparable to Bunnings (after they dropped prices and increased range to match) and blinds were comparable like for like.

        • -1

          @Maverick-au:

You have provided proof of nothing other than the fact you are a Masters fanboi.

I have not said all Masters prices are higher across the entire range - but for the items I have purchased that is the case.

I suspect what has happened here is that Masters are applying their % discount to a price that they never actually sold the items I am buying at - so they say it's 60% off but the reality is the discount is far, far less.

I can't provide proof because I didn't shop at Masters before. But as soon as I bought my items I went to Bunnings to see how good a deal I got - and I was very disappointed that I obviously got ripped off.

Not only did I get ripped off, but I have no opportunity to return the items to Masters, nor did I have a large range to choose from like I do at Bunnings.

There will be some bargains had and to be had at Masters in this shut down, but for you to suggest that all their discounted items are cheaper than Bunnings everyday prices is just plain wrong. Your love of Masters is blinding you.

        • +1

          @GreatWhiteHunter:

You have provided proof of nothing other than the fact you are a Masters fanboi.

I just provided proof that your claim about the stainless steel house numbers was totally and utterly incorrect. I posted Masters and Bunnings links with their prices prior to the 70% off discount.

I suspect what has happened here is that Masters are applying their % discount to a price that they never actually sold the items I am buying at - so they say it's 60% off but the reality is the discount is far, far less.

That's not happening, you can check their prior sell prices easily as I have shown you.

I can't provide proof because I didn't shop at Masters before. But as soon as I bought my items I went to Bunnings to see how good a deal I got - and I was very disappointed that I obviously got ripped off.

Provide links to the items you purchased and the items at Bunnings INCLUDING the LEDS.

Not only did I get ripped off, but I have no opportunity to return the items to Masters, nor did I have a large range to choose from like I do at Bunnings.

LOL large range at Bunnings! That's a laugh, the range at Bunnings is utter rubbish and Masters was often no better. Hardware Stores in Australia are an utter joke.

There will be some bargains had and to be had at Masters in this shut down, but for you to suggest that all their discounted items are cheaper than Bunnings everyday prices is just plain wrong. Your love of Masters is blinding you.

Nearly every single item at Masters now is cheaper then the equivalent at Bunnings, this is a FACT. I say nearly every because I'm sure there will be a few cheap items that might not be.

        • @Maverick-au:

Maverick you seem to call everything bollocks.

If you had any clue you would acknowledge the Bunnings web site has a very small amount of their actual range on it.

Case in point the "Turner" industrial style pendant light - available in 2 colours. I saw these in Bunnings today and came home to look up their specs online but they are not on the Bunnings web site.

Same applies to most of their current range LED oyster lights.

They are in store, are part of the current Bunnings range, yet not on the Bunnings web site. This is typical of the Bunnings web site across a very wide range of products. I wish Bunnings had a web site as good as the Masters one was before they took all their products offline.

Interesting in todays world that Masters had a decent web site, Bunnings have a crap one, yet Bunnings have kicked Masters ass. Goes against the theory that online businesses thrive in todays world.

Masters fanbois must really be sad….

It has a fair bit of the range on there but the trade website has pretty much everything on there which is why I mentioned it.

Interesting in todays world that Masters had a decent web site, Bunnings have a crap one, yet Bunnings have kicked Masters ass. Goes against the theory that online businesses thrive in todays world.

There are many other reasons why Masters failed and many of them are down to management decisions not because they were three times more expensive. One of the big problems was the attitude of customers as well who are unable to compare prices nor pick better quality items and to trade users who wouldn't bother swapping even though they could save money. Bunnings didn't help either with it's illegal practices regarding suppliers not helping.

        • @Maverick-au:

Spot on masters like for like is better quality as you pointed out with the house numbers. They are from a local company Tiro who make good hinges and products and far better than anything next door

Unfortunately most people (clearly) can't comprehend the difference in quality/price. As you say most items were comparably priced and better quality

  • I just want to thank you all for the comments. You saved me a wasted few hours and some petrol.

Wasted hours and petrol are 40-70% off at Masters

      • Or 100% off at Ozbargain! No deal!

got some heavy duty padlocks that were 40% off (would've been gouged buying them at the local locksmith) as well as mechanix work gloves at half price

I went masters to get some bolts and nuts with their 50% off fastener, was just too hard with stuff and ppl everywhere, went next door to bunnings, works out bunnings had them for cheaper even after the 50% off in packs of 25. It even came with bolts and nuts in the same box.

Stocked up on alot of the pryda hangers and brackets. That's pretty good deal plus cause it's in a different section to the brackets aisle, seems relatively untouched.

Bunnings has ALWAYS been cheaper/better quality. This is why Masters failed, yet they pretend like they knew what they were/are doing. It's mind blowing watching this failed endeavour wrap up.

  • So much for waiting till the end and getting some decent bargains.
    Everything worth chasing is gone
Feels a bit like a dollar shop now, only the prices are still up there, even at 40% off,
    $18 for 5lt fuel container
Even with the discount $10, better off looking at supercheaps 50% off sale
Although their prices seem to have gone up by 50% too In the last few years, so I don't know what to tell youse
    Alibarba?

  • Stores are pretty bare now. I went to buy some enamel paint and although they have plenty to sell they have no tint left to colour it.

There are a few bargains to be had but a lot of stuff has no prices shown anymore and staff are not at all helpful.

I did actually like masters before but I think the guys in charge of their closing sale are really bad.

Bye masters I won't be back
