Mass Effect Trilogy Now Available in EA Access Vault (Xbox)

631

Happy N7 day!

EA access just got even better with the addition of the mass effect trilogy to the vault!

Note dlc is not included afaik however this is a great addition, especially with Mirrors Edge Catalyst still being added on Nov 9.

Perfect timing for those picking up a new X1!

Thanks to Spackbace:
12 months ea access $36 at MS store with student discount
MS store

For those who are new to the xbox ecosystem, EA access is a must have imho. There are plenty of games spanning many genres that are 'free' to download and play while your subscription is active.

A great feature are the 10h trials of new release games which are then added approx 6-8months later. Great for sports titles etc. If you must buy then get physical and sell on once it's in the vault!

Can help dissuade you from buying a new release title also (eg in my case fifa 17, Need for Speed, madden)

Suggestion (especially for those with slow internet speed): if picking up a new console as a gift for children, etc at xmas might consider opening it early and installing the games as there are 100s of GB of games in the vault.

Also the discs you may have purchased take some time to install and often have large, mandatory patch downloads.

This will allow them to jump right in and play rather than wait hours or even days!

Pays for itself with 1 game!

      • Good call spackbace. Just got this. OP maybe add to post for those of us that didn't have ea access just yet but want to get it because of your post :D

      • then after 1 year. you own nothing until you pay again!

        bargain!

        • Can't say I really care. A year after owning really any of the vault games, they'd be worthless. I don't pick up games over a year after purchase, very few anyway.

        • +1

@Spackbace: theyre already worthless by the time they become vault games

thats why theyre offered as such. so youre already paying a subscription for worthless games, let alone after a year

        • +1

          @furythree:

Most games when they go up are worth about $40 or so.

Just cut out the preaching. I find value in the service, you might not, each to their own.

      • +1

Microsoft has 10% off all codes at the moment (not just students). Combine with ANOV5 for extra 5% off $34.19 total cost

        • Nicely done :)

or just buy the games outright and stop supporting gimmick rental services?

  • +3

yeah i noticed ME2 and ME3 were just added to back compat.. noice..

  • Awesome!

  • +1

Was planning on getting my ME3 Disks out tonight - now I can just play digital - am I getting lazier as I get older?

  • Is it any use for Xbox360 owners?

  • -1

Enjoy the first two. Pretend the third one doesn't exist.

On the topic of Xbox games and good value - I'd like to throw in Gears of War 4, going at $64 at BIGW.

They released Gears of War 4 (Standard issue) with download codes for GoW1, 2, 3 and 3.5 (GoW: Judgement). All games reached critical acclaim and is one of the only games (besides Halo series) with incredible couch co-op (Hard to find now for the XB1)

Me and the missus have probably sunk in close to 100 hours of our initial purchase and haven't even touched GoW Judgement, horde mode or GoW4 multiplayer.

The game is definitely MA15+, but as a tightar*e, it's definitely been money well spent!

    Edit - price actually $64

    • Where are the GoW1, 2, 3 and 3.5 codes supposed to be?

I have the ultimate edition of GoW4 and have never been able to find them even though I've seen the marketing around saying that they came with the game.

      • +1

Where are the GoW1, 2, 3 and 3.5 codes supposed to be?

If I recall correctly, I believe they're supposed to be in the case itself. It won't come with digital copies though.

Alternatively, all four can be purchased for $15-20 (as a bundle) on ebay, Facebook or maybe even your friends. They've been discounted, given away and overstocked (second-hand market) plenty of times before - hence the low prices.

        • It won't come with digital copies though

I got the digital version when I bought the Gears of War console from JB.

          https://www.jbhifi.com.au/games-consoles/games/Gaming-Consol…

It says on the page "Now for a limited time, get the entire Xbox 360 Gears of War collection for download on Xbox One at no additional cost."

I wonder what's going on there.

        • +1

@panetta: I've been wondering the same thing. Bought the gow xbox one s console from Microsoft directly. Might get onto customer support chat and see what the go is.

        • +2

If you get it digitally the codes are sent through your Xbox messages inbox

        • @Agret:

Thanks Agret. Any idea how long it's supposed to take?

I've had the console for a month now.

        • @panetta: I pre-ordered gears4 digitally and got the codes 48hrs after launch. My friend got the gears special edition xb1 slim and he got the codes instantly when redeeming the digital code the console came with

        • +1

@panetta: I just went on chat with Microsoft. They gave me my codes directly. May be worthwhile doing the same.

Edit: he gave me the wrong codes. Will go back.on chat soon and see if I can get the right ones.

        • +1

          @Agret:

          Thanks

      • Good question.

I received one of those typical code sheets in the game case. It had all four game codes and an additional two other codes for in game gear. Pop them in and then let them download. The games are between 6-9GB, if I recall.

    • +2

What, your missus plays Gears with you?!

      She's definitely a keeper! 😉

  • +4

How Sony thought EA Access did not represent 'good value' for its users, i'll never know.

    • Yeah when I heard of it I was excited, then saw it was Xbox only :(

    • +2

same way they thought mods for fallout and skyrim were a bad idea i think

    • +1

It's more to do with not settimg a precedent for allowing additional sub services on psn. Sony have taken the stance that PS+ is the fee you should be paying and dont want to confuse/anger consumers with additional sub services, or that's how I understand it.

Luckily so far other publishers haven't followed suit but it'll be interesting to see if that changes next year.

  • +2

I hate November. Game releases always coincide with assessment marking time…
+1 to EA Access. Have had it for 6 months now, and such good value for the sports games alone (FIFA + NHL, haven't touched Madden or NBA). add on now everything else, and I think it's one of the best XB1 purchases I've made…

  • Newegg have EA Access for $24.99USD with a code available on their mobile site or App. (Not on website)

Being digital delivery I "think" it should work with a spoof US address

    • You'd need a US CC or Paypal address, ie payment address has to be the same as billing address.
And you're doing that for ~$4.50 saving

      • Umm this is OzBargain, is it not? (Plus its more like $7!)

        • Fact is, you can't do it by spoofing addresses, payment will bounce.

And I was comparing prices to best possible Aus price - US$24.99 = AU$32.45. MS store with Student discount = $36.95

  • +1

Cool always been curious as everyone has hyped this from reviewers to fans but never got around to buying it. I'll give it a shot now.

  • +3

Who remembers Target selling 12 months EA access for $25? I'm covered for the next 3 years :-)

    • +2

Yeah I got one of those.
I went in about 4-5 days after the sale and thought I would try my luck and ask the guy at the counter if he had any left in the back. He went and checked. One left. Score!

  • +3

    PC EA access vault too?

  • Neg, as clearly not a deal. By posting each time old stuff is added to the catalog of a digital rental service like this this, we'd have 40 Netflix "deal" posts here every month.

Also, thanks mods for adjusting OP's post title, as these are clearly not free products.

    • +5

Except for the fact that they rarely add to the vault, until recently..

And it's still infinitely better (mathematically speaking) than any Costco deal that gets posted. :)

      • -4

        @ryang

Costco is not a digital rental service like this is. What actual point are you attempting to make?

    • +7

      I disagree.

I find these posts very useful and believe this to be a great "new" deal.

Think about it like this, before EA Access came with games ABC, now you also get game X for the same price as it was before.

If McDonalds started giving away free Sundays with every Value Meal (before you get ABC for $, now ABC+X for $) that would be a deal right? Only difference here is that it is a service vs a product.

In terms of Netflix, it is unlikely adding a new movie really moves the needle on the value equation but something massive (like every Starwars movie being added, or every Simpsons episode being added would and would be worthy of a deal being posted).

Sometimes obeying the letter of the law interferes with the spirit of the intentions behind the law (and vice versa).

So whether you are correct or not regarding a precise reading of Ozbargain's rules I take the spirit of the site (to inform users about great bargains) to be met by the deal in question and would hate to see these kind of postings disappear as I rely on them for information on where best to spend my hard earned and this, for me, moves the needle on EA Access being worth an investment vs not and judging by how much the net is blowing up about this there are a lot of people thinking the same.

      • +5

You'll have to forgive poor old infinite, he's a PC master race troll who gets his jollies just lying in wait to have a whinge about any Xbox related stuff posted…it's his way of justifying the butthurt of knowing that people who spend $300 on a console and a few bucks a month on Live can have as much fun as he has with his $2k+ gaming PC.

Just feel sorry for him, it's actually pretty pathetic when you think about it… :'(

        • +1

He must be atleast somewhat happier now though that he can play all the Xbox exclusives on his pc

  • Amazon UK have EA Access for 20gbp (~$32). Anybody know if it's easy enough to purchase digital items from there even if it says it's only available to customers in the UK (via spoofing address, etc.)?

  • +1

Thanks OP. Would regard this more of a freebie rather then a deal but appreciate the effort and advice. Useful for parents and those uninformed buying the console.

  • 1-month EA Access is currently discounted to $2.51 at https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/278559. I've never used it but can you buy 12 such 1-month and use them consecutively or at your discretion for a total of $30.12 for a year?
