Camelx3 price history. Not lowest UK price ever, but excellent with AUD/GBP conversion rate.

Would possibly be cheaper for those with a 28deg card. I've got no idea how to add my amazon referral link, if that's available.

Anyone own and use a robot vacuum? Would like to know some opinions on them.

    • +3

Have the exact same model. It works well IF your house is laid out well with furniture and no one leaves things on the floor like socks that will jam the intake.

Otherwise before you clean you'll need to do a quick check around the house before the scheduled time.

As for cleaning, seems to do a pretty decent job of picking up fluff etc. Does corners quite well, can do a 3 bedroom place on a charge as long as it doesn't get stuck, and will save you from light vacuuming duties.

Used to have dust balls along the corners if the place hasn't been vacuumed in a few days, but not anymore!

      • Thanks for the explanation.

And as for general maintenance for the vacuum, (cleaning out the filter/and emptying the hatch) how easy is it?

        • +1

It's not that bad to empty. There is a brush like tool to clean the filter but if you're OCD and want it completely clean you're going to have a bad time. I just remove most of the dirt and leave whatever I can't on the filter.

Overall pretty happy with the purchase. I've ordered some generic filters from banggood, we'll see how good they are.

You do need to replace it every month or 2 I think

every couple days empty bin, clean filter and maybe even vacuum it.
every few weeks, take off brush and pull off hairs from bits and pieces.

My wife said this is the best gadget ever I purchased. :)
And I have a lot of gadgets.

We don't schedule it. Most of the time we manually start it when we are leaving the apartment.
Yes, you have to make sure there is nothing small left on the floor, no hanging cables and etc. But this is a tiny effort compared to manual vacuuming.

      • Ditto - This is my 2nd one, previous model died after 5 yrs. Wife forced me to buy another one.

    • I have the irbot roomba and its one of the best purchase i have eved made. You need to make sure there is no things are left on the floor especially cables as it tend to get stuck with them. Buy it and forget anything called vacuuming.

      • Cables are generally ok if they're strong enough to be trampled over by the Neato. The head/tail of cords however will cause it to jam (e.g. charger heads). You'd generally want to tape it to the side of something, which looks neater anyway!

    • I have the previous version, the white one with purple sensor cap.
Works best on low carpets and not on shag style rugs
      Hard wood or tile floors.
She will eat and destroy your mobile charging cables.
Keep your floor clear and it will be great!

Quote from the deal page: "Maximum Hair Pickup. Pet, human or other…"

Other than pet and human what other hair is likely to be in the house? Particularly hairy spiders shedding for summer?

Price gone up? I see £365.18

  • I am waiting to pull the trigger on the Neato Botvac Connected which has been rated the best robotvac on the market by several reviewers. Even more effective than the new Dyson 360 Eye.

  • Is the power cord replaceable or do you have to use a UK Adapter?

    • Not replacable on the US model.

Yes it is but it's easier to change the plug over.

I have Botvac 80 and 85. Didn't see a difference between the two. Don't see the physical difference in this one either, albeit I don't own one.

    Pros
    - cleans well
    - adequate bin size
    - moves well and returns to charging base
    - resumes if cannot complete in single charge

    Cons
    - roller bearing is fragile. Breaks once a year
    - loud when using silicone brush
    - side brush gets mangled and easily falls off

Overall still a great investment. Leaves more time for me to OZB

Edit - Warranty and RTB service is important. These things do fail.

    • Cons - Battery needs replacing yearly or there abouts, if used daily.

      • Instead of buying a new battery. Just rebalance the battery with a hobby charger (cost the same as a new china copy battery). It will keep working for another year.

I've had irobot (roomba & scooba), I've had Neato XV21, Signature and now D80
I've been using robot vacuums for > 5 years

I find the D80 to be the best so far… it's navigation is good, cleaning (with side brush) quite good at getting to edges, and as others have noted can clean a reasonably sized area before needing recharging…if it runs low (mid-way through a clean) it will go back to the dock, charge, and then return & continue cleaning… agree with others that you need to ensure you kids aren't leaving socks etc on the floor

the "dust-bin" is a reasonably good size, but if you go a long time between cleans, or if you have an animal (or kids!) that sheds lots of hair then you may need to run it more often as the bin can fill up partway through a clean

my XV21 is still going strong (at sister inlaws place now!)… it is a little noisy (but so is any vacuum) so either schedule it when people are out, or put it on as you're going out)

I've bought all mine from Amazon/USA sites… and agree warranty would be nice, but I've found Neato quite reliable. Also you can buy spare parts online fairly easily and there are plenty of youtube videos!

    • A guy on Whirlpool mentioned that Amazon UK honours warranty & pays for return postage

do you need to replace batteries in these and if so how much are new batteries?

  • Back in the day Neato's were known to break (my neato screen went blank….) - is it still common with these current models?

Also are the batteries still crappy AA batteries stacked together? Hoping they would of moved onto lithium by now

    • +2

The top wifi model is lithium battery. The older models, like this one, still runs on Ni-MH.

      • Thanks for the heads-up. That's ridiculous on such an expensive item.

        • Thanks for the heads-up. That's ridiculous on such an expensive item.

Why? Lithium-Ion batteries are not some magical product that fits all applications. If you really want to you can replace the batteries with Lithium-Ion cheaply enough. For safety in a product like this there is nothing wrong with Ni-NH as it's not going to catch fire or explode when charging whereas a poor implementation of Lithium-Ion charging or some faulty batteries and you have a fire.

Pretty much every car on the road uses lead acid or similar technology, using your logic they should all use Lithium batteries.

What about Lithium batteries used on planes, look at how that worked out for Boeing - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Boeing_787_Dreamliner_battery_…

  • Thanks
MY XV-21 died a few months ago, had it since 2013.
I believe it is a LIDAR issue, already replaced the battery once.
This is a great price as it brings it to same as the lowest price on the US store.
