Anova Precision Cooker Bluetooth $174 | Bluetooth+Wi-Fi $194 Including Shipping @ Anova Culinary

740
GOBBLE65

No idea when the coupon code expires. Anova are now offering free shipping to Australia, so I think this is the lowest price it's ever been for Australians. With the exception of targeted offers some may have received. They've also dropped the base price of these units by $20 so it's a pretty decent deal.

They've been dropping price a lot lately. I speculate they're either going broke, feeling the pinch of competition or setting to release a new model. Will they continue to drop prices? Anyone's guess. It's probably a good buy for those wanting to get something for Christmas for the chef in their lives.

  • Adding my request to the many others for a code if anyone has one :)

As a side note, I wonder if this is how hogs breath does their prime rib steaks? 18 hour slow cooked apparently. I'd give anything to be able to cook one close to that good :)

    • No they use a Combi oven with a temp probe as far as I am aware. Oven temp increases to be slightly above core temps as it increases up to the desired doneness. They then slice it and sear it on a char grill.

IMO Hogs breath cafe's grills are too hot and the char is not a desirable taste. If the grill was a bit lower and they weren't in such a rush then they would make a better product.

personally I don't think its hard to do better..

If you buy decent quality meat (a good butcher, not a supermarket), sous vide to desired done-ness, finish on a very very hot grill/frypan, season well with some salt
mmmmmm tasty (this is what i had for dinner tonight)

  • Will be eternally grateful if a code is PM'd my way :)

  • Do people really use this much? It seems like something you would use a few times per year. And I assume you also need to buy a vacuum sealer separately?

    • No vacuum dealer needed. Just use zip lock bags

    • More than a few times a year, but not organised enough to use it that regularly..

I use ours when I want to do a decent meal or on a weekend when I want a damn good steak…

    • +1

We sous vide 2-3 times per month and it's increasing the longer we use it. Like a lot of things, if you're willing to invest time to learn something new, it'll reward you. We haven't been overly adventurous yet. Basics like steak, chicken and fish fillets. As I write, I'm doing sous vide eggs. Did them a couple of weeks ago and they're so good.

So in conclusion, a sous vide will produce perfectly cooked food with the minimum of attention but it won't do that if you can't be bothered getting it out of the cupboard. There a people that use it twice daily. You need to make that judgement call for yourself.

  • If anyone could PM me a code would really appreciate it!

  • I've been waiting for Anova deal! I'd really appreciate if you PM a code

  • Just throwing my name into the fray for a PM discount code so I can cook a sous vide storm like the boys on chefsteps :P

  • Is the Bluetooth + wifi worth it? Or is the wifi not all that stable?

    • I've heard good things about wifi, like being able to monitor and adjust long cooks from work / anywhere. So if you think you would really get into long sous vide cooks, it might be worth the extra cash.

  • Devastated I didn't get emailed a discount code. Was excited about the $174 price until I saw the codes haha.

  • +2

As if we'd buy it for $174 when it's going for cheaper!!!

    • yeah if we all got codes to put it in lol

  • FYI all, I think the codes may be expired/expiring soon so those like me without one will have to suck it up and buy at this price or wait for another deal…

  • Would also appreciate a code if anyne can spare one … Thank you :)
    (PM would be great)

    • Same for me, please pm me if you've got a code spare!

  • One more request for a code please! I have a friend who this would be perfect for as a Christmas pressie!

  • This is probably the best instruction of Sous vide cooking on the internet… https://www.chefsteps.com/sous-vide

  • Would appreciate a spare code if some one has :) PM me

  • Anymore codes left? would love a PM if no one is using it, I'm always the one to do the christmas dinner so this would be swell!

  • Would also love a code if anyone has a spare thanks in advance

  • Would really appreciate if anyone can PM me with a spare code. Thanks in advance :)

  • Might hold of unless a code pops us. Prices for it have been dropping every few months. They may have a boxing day special next month - who knows!

    • +1

Would be good to have some really nice medium rare steaks etc for Christmas dinner though :)

  • Don't like the idea using plastic bag, low temperature & long hours cooking.
long time cooking with food in plastic bag maybe harmful.

    • They say it's safe though future research might say otherwise.

      https://www.chefsteps.com/activities/a-complete-guide-to-sou…

    • +1

It will be even more harmful if the temperature is too low and the bacteria is not all killed. If you have concerns about the plastic bags, use BPA-free one or get silicone reusable bags instead.

      • +1

You can get reusable silicone air tight bags?

        • Ziplock works.

      • A few myths with this answered at http://www.yourdoctorsorders.com/2013/06/dont-overcook-healt…

In particular, 64°C for 4 minutes kills 99.999999% of salmonella whereas chicken sous-vide is commonly held at 74°C for hours.

      • if the temperature is too low

if you pay attention to some basic guidelines (such as time/temp charts), unless you are doing rare (which should have <2 hours cooking time) then everything else should be in the temperature where harmful bacteria is not an issue

        • Don't forget the thickness of the meat

    • conversely,I like the idea of a vacuum sealed bag, 55c and a couple of hours for a nice medium rare steak…
      (its whats cooking now)

      • Vacuum sealed bag should work better than a ziplock. Steak is safe to eat rare but not the pork. I was alway told that pork need to be fully cooked to kill potential parasites.

  • Are there any kind Sirs/Madams/Lords who have a coupon they don't want

I would be forever grateful :)

  • one code request if that would be nice please? :)

  • +6

Seeing as there's a bit of interest - I've left a msg with them to see if they can match or come close to the emailed offer in some form of a limited offer code. I may still follow through on this offer but will post if there's a response.

    • sounds like a plan - let us know how you go champ

  • f3be41fff18e-aa55bc7a

    • Thanks. It was used :-(

      • I found that the special codes have extremely short validity. I picked 1 code last night, managed to apply it, but was dumbfounded why I had $154 for the Bluetooth + Wifi model. So I went back to this thread, spent a few minutes reading and realized $134 was for the Bluetooth only model. Back to Anova's page I went to check out but by the time I was in the Paypal page, I noticed it was showing $259.

That's when I realized the special code had expired.

Lesson of the story, ACT and PAY UP as fast as you can.

        • +2

Someone snipered your code, ozbargainers are too quick!

        • @bullettime: Ah. I suppose that means that whoever checks out and pays first using the special code gets it.

          Sad.

  • Putting in a code request :) The Ozbargainer in me can't buy it at this price when I know I can get it 40 bucks cheaper!

  • N00b poster here - for those who did receive a coupon code, how did you get it? And would anyone like to share theirs with me? Thanks!!

  • +1

Would be tempted at $134, but find sous-viding on the cooktop good enough - the settings on the cooktop get close enough to maintaining a set temperature for hours. This device would be handy not having to monitor temperature, but I sorta hate having appliances for everything.

You can also sous-vide in an esky with just hot water and a thermometer - just add boiling water every half an hour or so to keep the temp up. Only done it once but steak was amazing. The esky maintains temperature very well.

This really is a fantastic gadget—steaks are constantly medium rare, and I love doing ajitsuke tamago (ramen soft boiled eggs) on it.

    • You convinced me - thanks for the code.

      • Congrats man. I can't seem to click fast enough haha.

        • It was up for 6 minutes before I tried it and I was surprised it hadn't been taken. Just lucky. Hope someone posts a new one for you.

        • @Janko:

          Cheers dude. Happy sou-vidin'.

  • Can you run two units from the one phone?

    • +1

      not according to their FAQ's

      • bugger, thanks.

  • I would be a proud recipient of a code if someone was to be so kind!

    Thanks!

  • I would also love a code after having a good think about it! (I've been waiting too damn long for Joule)

  • I would love a code too

  • +1

Damn it, just got a code and it codes seem to have expired at midnight on the 12th SFO time.

    • so too late for any codes now then…?

      • I believe so.
Tried a few before and it said that they had reached the maximum number of uses. Trying the same codes now and it says there is no active discount or something like that. Pretty gutted!

  • A bit late but 2 X codes for anyone that might want one

    f3be41fff18e-a74e7sc8

    f3be41fff18e-584asff4

    • Tried both. But both returned "This code did not match any active gift card or discount. Was it entered correctly?"

    • AU$500? I'd rather get a cheap Kogan one. It's just a temperature controlled water bath. https://www.kogan.com/au/buy/kogan-sous-vide/

      • Mellow has a built-in refrigeration system, to make sure your food is kept safe.

      • +1

You're being generous. It's USD $399 but only ships to the US so you'd have to pay a middle man service to mail it to you after that. All up I'm guessing over $600 and no easy access to warranty.

  • Could someone please PM me a code? :D

  • -1

I would love a code if someone has a spare l. Thanks :-)

    • +1

The codes expired 12 Nov. You missed the boat.

  • +1

Hmm. Buy for $174 or play the waiting game…tricky.

    • +1

Buy now on a card with price protection - if another deal comes up, beg your fellow Ozbargains for a receipt and make a claim!
I have made a few claims before and find that sometimes they don't even check the reduced price (accidentally wrote the wrong price on the form and got paid anyway!)

      • Good tip dude, cheers. May I ask what card you're using?
