No natural gas model for the Family Q :( Even on TGG website - they are listed but marked not available

    • Yea, same here, we have the outlet at our house. I read somewhere that we can buy a converter at bunnings or something? Might need to read up abit more

      • You can convert, but a plumber needs to do it, and the kit costs quite a bit. When you buy from someone who sells both natural and normal versions, the difference in price is far less than the conversion cost.

I looked in to the same thing when I bought my natural gas Weber. From memory, it's not ideal to do the conversion and there are issues with hose/inlet/burner sizes due to differences in the gases.

        • it's mostly just the jet size that needs to change.

  • Bought a Q2000, thanks.

Ummm whats with the postage? 30 bucks + bit ridunculous for weber accessories…

    • Yeah that was annoying. I've opted to click n collect the patio cover otherwise I'd be paying overs

  • I picked up the family Q and patio cover earlier however the discount didn't work for the patio so I had to make it a separate transaction to receive the discount. They also didn't initially have the other accessories available so I'm now tempted to pick up the pizza plate

  • Remember too that the special "high-lid" versions are only available at Weber Specialists. It may be important for those of you who want to cook large/tall roasts in it. They have a higher domed lid, electronic ignition and a temperature gauge on the front.

However, 20% off is a great price as you tend to find special brands like this rarely do discounts on Weber pricing!

I have never been a mad BBQer, but since I have got my Weber, the family loves things like marinated chicken breasts that I cook 2 minutes on each side after a 15 minute Weber Q heat up time. Quick, easy and so yum!

  • thanks. purchased a weber baby q!

  • Maaaaaaaaaaan just bought a Q2000 on Friday 11th from Mitre10 for $395. I knew i should've waited a bit longer

  • Can anyone give their experience for 2-4 people is the BabyQ or Q2000 suitable? Maybe the occasional camping trip here and there.

    • +1

I've got the BabyQ and I'd recommend it over the Q2000 if you're planning on moving it around.

As for how much it can handle it depends what you're cooking. I've cooked sausages for 20 people with no problems, however if you want to put some large steaks on there you might only get 4.

If you want to get fancy with many different sides you may find you can only cook for 2 at a time.

Once it heats up it cooks really quickly so if it came down to it I could cook twice without much wait but that rarely happens

  • Does Baby Q come with hose for gas bottle or it's extra?

  • Slightly OT, but where can you buy the replacement grill tops for the Q200/2000 models here in Brisbane / Australia?

I tracked down the part numbers:

    6559 - Cast iron griddle (half / 1 piece)

7645 - Cast iron cooking grate (whole / 2 piece)

CG84PCI - Cast iron cooking grate (whole / 1 piece)

All of the above are readily available from numerous US retailers ($50-70), very few outside of eBay ship to Australia, and the costs are prohibitive.

    • Call weber Australia.

  • Missus went to a local Weber dealer to have a look at the BBQs first hand and noted that:

    1) BabyQ is quite a bit lighter/smaller than the others - good if you really did want something portable but very very light/flimsy to leave around without securing it
    2) Q2000 with portable stand looked like a good compromise - however the portable stand is quite a bit lighter than the patio stand
    3) FamilyQ is the biggest/heaviest and least likely to be blown over if you're leaving it on the deck. Would be the one that takes longest to heat up and use

Also the cover being sold is for the Familq and patio stand (not the portable stand..)

We've been debating as the Q2K w/ stand w/ a few accessories is the way to go (worked out to around $663 before discount) or just bite the bullet and get the FamilyQ instead..

    • Go the family or the baby both put out more heat then the q200

      • Thanks Argon - that doesn't seem right when you go to the weber site that lists the amount of megajoules of heat each one puts out..

In the end we ordered the FamilyQ simply because the closest store (Warrawong) was sold out of the Q2000. Worked out to $700 (after discount) once you add in the patio cover and a hot plate.

  • I am new to Weber what is the big difference between this and normal BBQ.

    • SF: It's a bit of a different form factor - the babyq and q would be considered more portable than a normal bbq. Weber are also considered to be more expensive but part of what you are paying for is meant to be better build quality and better support.

      • Thanks, except portable in term of cooking any main difference?

        • Perception of better build quality and better support ? I've always assumed it's a bit of a brand following - e.g. you have people who just like cars, then you have people who like mazda and then a smaller subset of people who specifically like the RX7. I put Weber into that category..

Really all you want out of a BBQ is for it to last a reasonable time, be easy to clean and do the actual job (get to a reasonable temperature and maintain heat). Oh and I guess you want it to be safe and not explode.. I don't think a weber will make you a better cook and it's not like it's a thermomix with sophisticated electronics and recipes built in..

        • @jason andrade:

be easy to clean and do the actual job (get to a reasonable temperature and maintain heat).

Of course this is actually what I want to know.

        • @superforever: In that case, yes, Weber Q has a good reputation. We looked at the comments on Ozbargain plus productreview and a couple of other sites - just to get a good spread of responses. It was pretty much positive overall that it gets the job done

        • @jason andrade:

Is it really that easier to clean then traditional one?
