You know the deal it’s HOT. I believe will be all gone soon.

        reply votes report

  • yayyyyyyyyyyy just got one

    • damm, missed it by that much.. any one wanna sell me 4 for a raid system :)

      • what a sad sad day. not even legends can get one

        • +1

you have to take that back, i just got one :) yah!! only $57.73 AUD delivered, not just need another 3 to go with my 2 intel ssd drives that are still coming

  • The way this is going the next 1, wont be put on the site for another hour.

  • It's interesting to see this, COTD type of sites popping up everywhere these days.
I guess it makes a good business sense, fast and high turnover so low risk, no retail front, most of admin work done online, low price advertises itself. Say you make $1 on each deal, and sells 1000 of it, it's still $1000… not a bad day's work.

    • Well if the item stuffs up and the customer sends it back u might be screwed over.

      • but how many customers are going to be willing to pay for the shipping it back especially if the item is small value?

  • +3

I've read through all the posts here, and had a good laugh at the people whinging about the lack of communication.

It looks like (and I may well be wrong here) that this deal wasn't posted by anyone from pricesengine. If that is the case, then you should be thankful for the communication we did get.

Fortunately for me, I visit the site (and most of the other similar sites) as close past 12pm as I can. The one day I got there late was the SSD day, and I missed out :(

I managed to get a drive. Bit sad I could only get 1, but I suppose it's a fair system.

    • +1

We are try to communicate with everyone here. But looks like a bit hard.

But we will improve ourself next time. Thanks for your feed back.

  • +1

MinnieWu, can you tell how much time would it take to get it delivered?

    • +1

Will trying to ship out by next monday.

      Will do our best.

  • I just went to the site and noted it said sold out, and the timer was still counting down.

It seems a bit of a waste to have your site selling nothing for the next 17 hours.

Wouldn't it make sense to put something else on there, even if it's not as good a deal?

  • Sold out ?? Just bought one.. the website was showing 1 unit left

    • lol, i think you need to buy a lottery ticket with that kind of luck.

  • -2

it shows different amounts to different people, when they guy said there was 20 left, there was about 47 showing to me

    • +6

It's hard to explane this to you but. We don't deal like that way. believe me.

I know it's very hard to turn this thing back. But one day if you got your deal. You will believe us.

      Sorry for your miss out.

      • Any more Minnie, or are they all gone now ?

        • Not sorry. Please wait for next deal.

          Sorry for your miss out.

  • +3

poorly executed. i had been monitoring the item since 2pm for several hours and nothing. This is my first experience with pricesengine. I sure hope they improve because it's not a good first impression. If this happens again with them, i might be more inclined to neg. This turned out to be more like a lottery than first come first serve.

    • exactly. But I'm neging for wasting my time

  • -3

well, i dont got this hdd deal. but i got the ipod 8gb deal, its alright

  • +9

Just because you didn't get the deal doesn't mean you have to neg it. It was a great deal and this is what this site is about, posting great deals, not giving a neg because you didn't get one. We need more like priceengine, at least they are trying to bring good deals to us.

    • +5

There is a legitimate reason for negging: the botched way this was handled. If the server hadn't been crashing and nobody knowing what was going on then there wouldn't be all the negs. I chose not to neg this deal, but I can understand why some people did.

      • +3

the botched way this was handled is precisely the reason why I negged it. the deal was not about first in best dressed but when the servers decided to actually work……extremely poorly handled……..

  • -1

Should consider fixing your site first.

  • booooooooo. We wanted one.

  • +3

What can I say…..wasting so much time…very disappointing with this deal!

  • +5

Awesome deal, mass of interest, sold out quickly. Surprised much?

  • +3

Lost some time this afternoon trying to get one of these harddrives with no luck in the end… You win some and you lose some…

When the site does have stock (eg. iPod Nano deal) and is not overloaded, the counter does not go down to zero as some have commented on recently. This only happens when they no longer have stock left registered in the system. Was a great deal and am not surprised that they sold out way too fast…

Appreciate the communicating with us MinnieWu… And thanks for the great deals coming from PricesEngine…

  • +2

poor effort, in the hunt to please 100 customers you have pi$$ed off many more. Marketing 101, have a clear and easily deliverable message to ensure confusion doesn't entail.

fix you SOH replication and server issues before you post again IMO

  • +2

Very poor effort - I was watching this all day from work. Epic fail.

  • +10

lol at some of the comments. Give the guy a break. They obviously did not expect this much interest and was ill prepared for it. Very good deal though. I wished I was able to get one myself. Will definitely be checking their website from now on.

    • +3

pfft you can't really claim zomg I didn't know it would be that popular. the guy has posted deals on here before so he would have had an inkling of what to expect when posting an absolute bargain on something like a hard drive.

this is like COTD part II. they all know how popular their deals are gonna be, but don't want to spend/waste the extra $$ on servers or be more prepared. doesn't reflect well on your business if you don't plan the obvious basics, especially with so many precedents … just saying ;)

      • I understand where your coming from but can you really compare these guys with COTD. Based on their website, it seems to me that they're a much smaller business than COTD. Maybe they can't afford better servers atm. Some of the negative comments here are reasonable. Some are definitely not. Anyway, it's nice to see that they've started to limit the amount a person can buy. Shows that they're actually listening to us.

  • -7

good price got one, limit one per person is not good enough, at least five in my opinion

  • +2

26 negative votes? Just because someone misses out does not make this a bad deal. It's as if children with warez to store are buying the drives.

  • +1

please mod remove all the negs..

    • +5

yeah remove the negs, this doesn't deserve -26.. there are 8000+ OzB guests alone, not counting thousands from other sources.. can't let 26 'losers' on OzB ruin the reputation of this company, just look at their comments.

      • mod will say, well this is a valid reason as we are democratic country :)

but i agree with you mate. this is not a valid vote, that votes have to be remove ASAP.

        • +1

Democratic country, hmm I don't remember voting for Julia Gillard. ;)

          • +1

@moo: So will our government be assembled in Parliment Kitchen from now on? And I'm just wondering if Gillard will rule with an iron.

(The iron is a play on iron fist :P)

Now ladies, I'm just kidding. It's interesting that we now have a female leader. Would be more interesting when the elections come round.

  • +4

Haha at all the pissed of people who are negging cause they're crying over an awesome deal they couldn't get to!

    • -4

I'm pissed off at losers who find it hard to relate to other people's experiences, lack comprehension, and have no respect for other people's points of view.

I don't mind missing out on a deal - happens all the time, but not when I've wasted my several hours trying to get through on a dodgy website. It is extremely annoying when you have an item in your cart, only to lose it because the site has packed it in. Please note that I am negging the deal, not the company offering the deal. The company is seemingly genuine and I have nothing against price engine as such, but they really should ensure the site can cope with the traffic that a $49 hard drive deal is certain to draw. It is now evident that the priceengine rep will rectify the issue, and I look forward to doing business with them.

As for comments below that vendors won’t give out these good deals anymore if we complain, I say so be it. At least I won't be wasting my time with an ill-prepared deals/offers. It may be hard for some of the negging haters on this thread, but any sensible dealers will come back with well prepared offers to the same customers if they are serious about their business. Snubbing or mistreationg customers is never good business.

      • I’m pissed off at losers who…have no respect for other people’s points of view.

Read that sentence again very carefully…

        • Fair and a good point mate……..got carried away with paraphrasing and refuting comments such as "WHAT A BUNCH OF WHINGERS", "please mod remove all the negs.." or "can’t let 26 ‘losers’ on OzB ruin the reputation of this company, just look at their comments.". Thanks for pointing out the flaw on my part.

  • +8

WHAT A BUNCH OF WHINGERS in this community. I didn't get the deal, but i'm not gonna complain about it, 100 other people got it, so well done to them.

You can't expect every online retailer to have state of the art web server equipment from day dot to accommodate thousands of simultaneous hits when they sell stuff this cheap, give the girl a break.

If you complain so much, vendors won't give out these good deals anymore.. geez.

  • +2

OMG WTFF i logged in at 2pm and server crashed
no replies on ozbargain until like half an hr later
so i thought hmm, sites finally loading but still zero stock, mustve sold out in the first half an hour

    GIVE UP and go away

I come home and check to find out the stock wasnt refreshed until 5 or 6pm WHAT RUBBISH IS THAT
i waited patiently until 2pm but stock was only refreshed at 5pm and pricesengine didnt let us know SOONER, so i would have known to wait longer.
technically that means i was lied to. wasted so much time.

its not about whingeing that i didnt get the deal, its that i listened and trusted what they said, but the communication was terrible. the troubles could have been avoided if they just posted an update on ozbargain (which was not crashing so no excuse) as soon as possible around 2 that the server is inaccessible to refresh stock. no like friggen 2 hrs later when ppl gave up

and i just wanna know what the hell took them so long that they cudn refresh the stock between 12:30 and 2pm because they said really early on they were gunna refresh the stock. instead of doing it last minute

    • They did add stock at around 2pm yesterday, I actually managed to get 1 but was unable to get back from paypal as the site was running slow already., =) Hope they'll get a better server next time.

  • Well the site is completely dead today LOL, good job Pricesengine!

  • We are not switch our server location. ( change a new server)

It's may take about 24~48 hours.

    • +1

you should test the new one with free stuff and list it as testing

be for you put on a good deal with HD again

    • We are now switch our server location. ( change a new server)
It’s may take about 24~48 hours.

      • +2

I implore you to put up the offer again so that people who listened to you and waited until 2 , get another chance at buying it.

      • When is the next deal due minnie ??

  • -4

    Bait advertising

    • +5

Not really. They had a reasonable amount that just didn't cater for the viral demand.

    • +2

isn't bait advertising when you sell very few of something extremely cheap to get people in to buy other more expensive things?
Don't think that is the case here. They only sell one item at a time, and they had 100 of them.

  • Why is this still getting negatives when the offer is clearly finished?

  • Everybody has the right to their opinion…

If this offer was for eg available in a store front, they would be expected to have enough supply for the demand of the sale period, otherwise it would be known as bait advertising.

These days the internet if filled with these business that have sml amount of stock and advertise cheap prices to drive traffic to their business. I cant wait for the day that the ACCC make a ruling that this kind of marketing excercise is not allowed. I personally would like them to impose a clear indication of how much stock they have available at that price, and also offer rainchecks unless its a discontinued item and for it to just appear in their inventory not this one day sale.

I am sick of hearing, oh how can a company expect that much traffic when they have a hot deal…seriously you would have to be living in the dark ages not to expect high volumes of traffic, why do you think they do it !!!!

Business have to realise that the Internet is a World Wide Platform and with sites like facebook, twitter and email of course the word is going to get out and if they have poor service or site performance, they have to expect a backlash from potential customers.

For these people that are whinging about Negative votes, I think they are well and truely justified the company offered a product, didnt have enough stock and had site problems. If the company had any interest in providing service to their customers/potentional customers they would of put up a message on their home page that they are experiencing problems and provided an estimated time the service would be expected to be up and running, instead of communicating "in a minute", to me that is very unprofessional.

Wether you have had a good experience or bad experience with their offer, alot of people will now check this site on a regular basis, so in essence their marketing ploy paid off.

    • +4

"If this offer was for eg available in a store front, they would be expected to have enough supply for the demand of the sale period, otherwise it would be known as bait advertising."

That is incorrect. There is no consumer law that states you need to have ample supply to meet demand. Ever seen sales advertised as 'Until sold out'. Well this is a perfect case. They'll never have supply to meet the demand and that is the way many one product per item sites run.

Poor service? I don't think so. Minnie has been hear and pretty transparent with the way things going. Poor site performance? Yep, but they are new obviously and companies do make mistakes and need to learn.

If you think every future sale will have enough stock just for you and everyone else, then you are in for some major disappointments in life.

    • Here's the ACCC article which you probably didn't bother to read. (http://www.accc.gov.au/content/item.phtml?itemId=794099&node…)

Was this a bait and switch? Nope, there was nothing to 'switch' for the customer.

Did they have reasonable supply? Original stock + 100 RESTOCKED for a HDD. yes, that can be considered reasonable for a sale that ends in 24hours.

Were they upfront with stock levels? Yes, they advertised the restock level. And they were upfront in telling customers it was sold out and demand was higher then expected.

"A business may underestimate demand for a product and sell out if faced with more customers than they reasonably expected. The Act makes allowances for this kind of situation. Businesses should, however, be able to demonstrate that the higher demand was unexpected and that they moved quickly to correct the situation to show that the offer was sincere."

They made mistakes. But they haven't broken the law.

Whingers can keep on whinging. So entertaining that you guys get so stressed over a little HDD. Yet you'll all be refreshing like crazy when PriceEngines has their next deal.

    • +3

"If the company had any interest in providing service to their customers/potentional customers they would of put up a message on their home page that they are experiencing problems and provided an estimated time the service would be expected to be up and running, instead of communicating “in a minute”, to me that is very unprofessional."

Would be nice if you actually read all the posts before mouthing off!

The site rep was here begging people to stay away from the site so they could make the changes, but I guess there were just too many people with nothing better to do than hit F5 every 5 seconds.

Clearly they massivly under-estimated the appeal of this offering, and it's good to see they have already instigated changes to help reduce this sort of issue again.

Still … everyone does indeed have a right to their opinion.

  • +4

If you turn up to MSY and find out that they've run out of stock, you don't bitch and moan and ask for the manager, do you?

Same deal applies here people. They sold out quickly because they didn't have enough stock to cater for such a large amount of people. Look at the click count - over 9000?!

There's really no helping if their server crashes, we've all had the experience with COTD and their dodgy servers. Maybe it's because one-day deal sites simply don't generate enough advertising revenue to make it worth getting uber servers.
Or perhaps its due to the nature of the site that people usually come in droves and then frantically try to make orders at the same time. Of course the server would crash..

But you know what, at least they're taking the effort to make the upgrades. Give a round of applause to PricesEngine for their great work :)

    • does the click count only count once for every ip address or can the same person trying to get to this page several times count as several clicks?

  • Got mine today! Thanks MinnieWu.

  • Is the 3.5" Barracuda 1TB ST31000528AS they have today for $59 worth it?

  • Anyone else still not received theirs yet??

    • I havn't received mine too.. After a week of not receiving my order, I sent them an email to inquire about it. They replied that my PayPal account was "unverified" and hence the delay. I have since verified my account and emailed them several times, but no reply and no HDD.

  • I still haven't received mine only got order confirmation today, even though my paypal has been verified for a week. I was never even sent an email to tell me to verify my account I had to learn that from here. So at a guess by the time it gets to me it will have taken approx 4 weeks, not really acceptable.

    Any good for cooking eggs?

  • Ahh, the old days, when deals would get negged just for being out of stock!
