Just a heads up the M7 is plagued with a camera issue that tints everything purple. It's a known issue which can only be rectified by changing the camera module.

    • +4

I had a nearly invisible off screen hairline crack of 2cm in the black part of the glass at the bottom, and this was enough for HTC to reject my in warranty claim for the camera issue. What frigging tossers.

Having said that, loved this phone, wouldn't have upgraded to this day if it stayed working. Also it was from memory the first batches (a old in the first 6 months anecdotally) that had the issue, I was of the understanding that later models didn't have the problem.

      • +5

You would be correct. I had a later model and never had camera issues. I highly doubt any that are still for sale would have them.

I also thought they were a great phone, pity the hardware is a little old now.

        • Yeah i think these Telstra HTC One 801s (One M7) 32GB from Luv Your Phone is a later model of the One M7. I've got one and have no purple tint issue on the camera.

    • I've got a refurbished M7 32GB with no purple tint issue at all. Coincidentally it was also bought from this exact same eBay seller.

    • my first m7 had that purple camera problem. although its strange that I only got the problem after rooting the phone
I got it replaced and the refurbished one is working fine even after 2.5 years.

    • yup i had a m7 with purple tint aswell

For a phone that's 3 years old and at this price point. I would get the Xiaomi Redmi 3S instead. Which is released this year and will continue to get updated into the foreseeable future unlike the M7.

    • Theres always Cyanogenmod if you prefer the HTC?

  • +1

Why don't you just get a brand new Xiaomi, plenty around this price point. All will perform better than this 3 year old phone, and will get (if not already on) Marshmallow, possibily Nouget.

    • Android Marshmallow is available for this HTC One M7 phone through a custom ROM called CyanogenMod 13. I run it on my Telstra HTC One M7 32GB bought from Luv Your Phone on eBay which is this same seller in this thread deal.

      https://download.cyanogenmod.org/?device=m7

    • Do u have a link good place to buy the Xiaomi?

  • If anyone gets one of these, do yourself a favour and do not update to Android 5. The scum at HTC sabotaged the M7 with it, removing most builtin apps but kept the icons for them that just redirect you to third party ones on the play store and making the performance horrible with a lot of crashing and jamming up of the launcher and onscreen keyboard.

    • Well i bypassed Android 5 and went straight to Android 6 Marshmallow (through CyanogenMod 13 custom ROM for HTC One M7). No problems here on that. It's compatible with these Telstra HTC One M7 phones. Not sure if it violates warranty though but i didn't care as mine was bought as a second hand refurbished.

I hated everything about this phone at $500… Heat issues, camera issue, everything issues. Get something else.

    • +3

Agreed with camera issues but nothing else

      • +2

Also agree. Possibly my favourite phone ever. Purple tint only prob I had

  • These are Telstra released HTC One M7 32GB phones. They do come with a stock Telstra version of Android Lollipop. If you're into custom ROMs then Android Marshmallow however is available in the CyanogenMod 13 custom ROM for HTC One M7.

  • One M7. Lol, don't do it. Please don't do it.

    • And what's wrong with it?.

      • Defective camera, overheating, frequent lagging and random resets.

I'm replacing an M7 with an S5 come the end of the year.

        • +2

Strange. The Telstra HTC One 801s 32GB that i have which is a variant of the One M7 experiences none of those issues. It is running CyanogenMod 13 ROM though and there's no lagging or random resets. The camera works fine too.

        • @hollykryten:

I've got an unofficial build of CM13 running also, which provides a minor improvement, but the phone is still plagued with the aforementioned issues. It's possible that later builds of the phone have corrected this.

        • @DJ-Studd:

Yes later variants of the HTC One M7 might have had the camera issue fixed. The Telstra released Australian variant of the One M7 is the One 801s which is what you find in this thread deal. I suspect that these Telstra HTC One 801s (which is what this seller is offering) may be a later variant compared to the ones that were originally released overseas and hence it might not have the particular camera issue. My One 801s model (although refurbished) from Luv Your Phone certainly doesn't have an issue with the camera. Nor does it overheat or crash. So i can't comment on any issues with mine.

This phone is coming up to being 4 years old. Thats ages in smartphone tech. I wouldnt do it.

For the same price you can get a brand new xioami which will perform better in every aspect.

    • To be fair this was the flagship model in its day.

And i wouldn't have thought Xiomai would be any where close to HTC in brand name and build quality. I bet the majority of Australians have never even heard of that brand. Plus that Xiomai is likely an import and would have to wait weeks for international delivery. Versus this HTC One 801s which is stocked in Sydney. These HTC smartphone build quality is way better too.

I'd rather a 2016 mid-range phone than a 2013 flagship. Technology has moved forward A LOT in the past 4 years.

Mates have bought a couple Xiomis recently. All quality phones. Theyre a huge company and have been doing amazingly well. Look online for reviews, they're good stuff.

Honestly the HTC brand name isnt worth a whole lot any more. Just have a look at the stock price for HTC. I wouldnt be surprised if the company shuts up shop in the next 5 years.

Funnily enough my friends all bought it from a company from hong kong, they shipped with TOLL express and got to us in perth in 2-3 days. Yes, thats quicker than auspost from sydney which takes 4-7 business days.

        • I have a Xiaomi, I really think its an amazing phone. however I think I would be recommending this phone to my mum and dad (in there late 60's) over a Xiaomi.

I can imagine some of the telephone calls I would get with the Xiaomi….

      • If you see the new xiaomi mix, I'm sure It will totally fresh your mind .

      • Dont bother convincing hollykryten about anything Xiaomi. He puts up the same monotonous arguments about how a 3-4 year old phone is better than any Xiaomi out there. Again, these phones have sealed batteries - 3rd party "refurbised" (ie. wiped down, software tested for a few minutes and cleaned), Dont know how many times it was dropped or dunked in water and dried etc. These phones are "Still" better than a brand new Redmi or Redmi Note according to hollykryten.

      • BTW hollykryten - are you in any way associated with this store? You've been very very active in the last few posts in positive favour of them and have bought many things apparently?

        • I have no affiliation to this eBay seller other than i previously bought my HTC One M7 from them but just as an ordinary buyer.

  • loved the feel of this phone but I don't think it would be a good daily driver nowadays…

  • +1

I had this phone and I love the design. The boom sound speakers were fantastic. The screen was great, and the camera was fast. However mine got the dreaded purple tint issue on the camera. Telstra replaced my phone though and then I had no more issues. Build quality on this phone was an issue.. Someone mentioned the Redmi 3s as an alternative, and Yeah I think that's a good alternative. Build quality on the Xiaomi is a little higher, performance and battery life is better. Neither have band 28. Maybe the camera and screen a little better on the HTC still, and the speakers are certainly better. You'd probably want to install a custom Rom on the HTC, and the Xiaomi you'll want to install global Rom or custom, so either phone probably is only worthwhile for those that want to tinker.

  • I love HTC so much , I'm still using my HTC M8 with CM13.

Buy for this price , I would buy a new xiaomi redmi note 3, the spec is 2 strong especially the 620.

  • Great phone.

  • +1

had it for 2 years when it came out. best phone of the year. now M8 M9 rip…..

  • +2

I loved my M7 (bought on an ozbargain post) until the oil from my my Sirena chilli flavoured Tuna (which I also love) got behind the screen of my M7.
I now have a phone with a dark screen which is impossible to view in daylight, every app is sluggish…and a group of cats that follow me everywhere.
Any more recommendations for the Xiaomi Redmi 3S ? I keep looking at the Mi5 dammit.
