Ah good. I had a plugger blowout a few months back and needed a new pair in time for summer.

Couldn't wait for a special on bread?

      • +1

Nah tried it but the plastic didn't last haha. The plastic stabbed me in the foot haha.

Awesome! Will get in quick on Wed morning

$9.99 at costco but you need membership!

  • +1

Don't buy these for your Mrs. It's a nightmare process of sizing issues waiting to unfold.

    • +1

      Totally! let them try first

  • +1

Are these the old $2 thongs I used to see everywhere in the late 90s?

    • +3

yeah, except they're usually 10x the price and made in brazil.

they're normally $10 in brazil though

  • +8

There's a Havaianas outlet in market city shopping centre in Sydney that has lots of colours and styles for $10 every day.

    • News to me thank you! I'll check it out!

  • How do these compare to my regular $2 things from Big W? They normally last me 4 months or so.

    • +7

They last a lot longer and are more comfortable.

I was using going through multiple pairs of cheap thongs from Kmart and Big W every year until one day Aldi had some Havianas for $10. They've lasted about a year and a half so far, and are way more comfortable.

      • Awesome, thanks! Will pick up a couple of pairs.

      • EXACTLY same situation as me lol

      • +3

Since Havaianas have really become mainstream, they're rubbish also. They blow out all the time. I never get one pair to last a summer.

I had pairs that lasted 3-4 summers 15 years or so ago. When they were only sold in surf shops.

If anyone wants a good pair of thongs, look at REEF. You'll realise how comfortable Havaianas are not.

        • +2

So what you are saying is that you liked them before they were cool?

        • +1

          @dtc:

          I'm saying they're shit

        • Reef are like nothing else, my mates went out and bought them after trying mine.

I'm probably going to get negged to oblivion for this, but I had the opposite experience. The mambo flip flops I got from big w were way more comfortable and cushiony compared to the havaianas I got from aldi.

I strongly suspect that the aldi ones might be "factory seconds"

"How do these compare to my regular $2 things from Big W? "

For me, a huge difference is that the cheap thongs are really dangerous if you walk on wet tiles or pavers. They turn into surprise skates. Also, if you step on a sharp stick or thorn, they are more likely to come through and stab you in the bottom of the foot.

Quality is def different from the ones I bought at the surf shop.

Not sure if these are discontinued off cuts or something?

    • I'd have to try them on, but it does seem possible last time I purchased from the surf shop they came with a warranty as well, I think it was 6 months.

Edit:Looks like all havaianas come with a 6 month warranty. Im in

Aren't these terrible if you suddenly need to make a run for it?

    • +4

      Not suitable as crime footwear.

      Or Olympics.

      • You make it sound like you have experience in both areas…

        Oscar rhymes with Llama…

        • +1

          Oscar can't wear thongs.

        • @dan086: Why not?

  • How do these compare with ipanema's comfort wise?

Footwear of choice for the bogan in the family.

Haven't seen these at my local woolies.

Anyone know of any stock in sydney?

    • +3

      Starts tomorrow

      • -6

Didn't find any at my local woolies

        • Don't know why this was downvoted.

Sounds like many woolworths stores don't have stock yet it has been advertised as a special for the week.

        • @marka:
It was down voted because your neg vote was invalid , read the rules before you vote next time.

I'm envisioning the schoolies stampede which will ensue when the store in Surfers Paradise opens tomorrow, due to the amount of stray thongs I've seen strewn around the joint in the past week or so, & the number of barefoot youngsters staggering around the place. Might wait til after the initial rush has subsided, before I duck in to grab myself some, if there's any left.

  • Nothing at Macquarie centre Woolworths

    • Yep can confirm this. Nothing at Eastwood or West Ryde also. Annoying.

      • You guys talk to anyone? When I asked at my local they said the shipment was due tonight, stock would be on display tomorrow.

        • Yep - asked one manager scanning prices and he knew nothing of it, then asked a girl at the info counter at the front, we went through the catalogue and she saw the Havainanas but read the fine print saying not all stores have it. So yeah poor service. Thanks for the feedback though - I'll check it out today =)

        • Still nothing at maq center

    • -1

They told me stock is arriving in the afternoon.

      • Still nothing at maq center

        • Yeah, went there today

Bought one pair size 39-40 at Central Park Woolies.

There were almost none left in the mens, however I didn't ask the store members if there were any more.

    • There likely was no more, there weren't at the two stores I asked at. (they only got those 3 or 4 boxes on display)

  • Nothing at QV Melbourne

  • I saw Havianas at my local Reject Shop recently.

  • Watergardens (VIC) had some. I got my mother to get me a few this morning :D

its funny how havaianas now its a "fancy" thing to have… im from Brazil and growing up, it was used by the housekeepers so they wouldnt slip and fall down while washing the floor… used to be a cheap thong for that reason, now we need a loan to buy one… in a shop near my home in Rio, some pairs are cheap, the plain ones, but you can get pairs for over 20$! which is a lot for a piece of rubber….

  • I had to buy a pair of thongs at Kmart last christmas after a dog chewed my other pair. went to Kmart and bought a cheap pair there. same pair is still going strong today (I live in bris so I use them most days ). outlasting the free rip curl thongs easily
