How to Redeem Just 33,333 AmEx Membership Rewards Points for a Pair of Bose QC35

Usually I don't advocate using points to purchase goods (most offerings represent poor value), but I have just discovered a way to buy QC35s for just 33,333 AMEX MR points (works with all AMEX MR schemes). Given the narrow scope of this deal, I thought it best to post to the forums.

This may represent good value to people, as Qantas is currently selling these headphones for 72,500 points: https://store.qantas.com/Catalogue.a2?Page=ViewProduct&Produ…

Marriott is currently running a weekly 'flash' sale on merchandise redemptions with Marriott Points. The QC35s are slated to come up next week for 50,000 Marriott points: http://www.marriottrewardsflashsale.com/item/enjoy-your-favo…

Marriott and Starwood have now merged, which means that you can now transfer Starwood points to Marriott instantaneously.
In order to purchase the headphones, you'd simply need to transfer 33,333 MR points to 16,666 Starwood points (conversion rate of 1 MR point to 0.5 Starwood point for all AMEX MR schemes), and then instantly convert the Starwood points to 50,000 Marriott points (at a rate of 1 to 3).

You can currently pick up bonus AMEX MR points on a number of different cards (such as the AMEX Explorer, Platinum Edge and the range of David Jones cards). Full details in the wiki: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/275964

  • Hmmm tempting since I already have sufficient Marriot / SPG points.

  • @The Champagne Mile - great work with this deal. Can I ask cos you seem to be across a lot of this stuff - just bought a bunch of SPG points, converted to Marriott Rewards and then converted across to United Miles for a future J redemption. Have you had any experience in how long it takes points to hit the United account from Marriott?

My experience with the Marriott hotels and fly (or whatever it's called) deals is that it takes around 10 days to two weeks for the points to post . I have only converted marriott points to alaska points though. May be different to for United??
They say, it could take a lot longer than two weeks for the points to arrive though. So make the conversion ASAP. :-D

      • I converted Marriott hotel + flight package points to AA a couple of weeks back. It took 4 business days for the points to hit my account.

        • Is this the only way to get from MR points to a Qantas?

  • Great idea. Pity I don;t have any Amex Points :(

  • These are 120,000+ points with CBA Rewards :\

  • Yea that's a pretty good price. Nice one. You need to jump through a couple of hoops though.

Although I'd say it's pretty even as to whether I'd prefer to spend 33.3k MR points or ~$400 cash on Bose QC35s.

    • Why is that, what else would you do with your points?

Redeem for first class or business international plane tickets.

  • This is a quality post, thank you OP.

I have just 15000 MR at the moment. Can I buy the rest of the MR points? Will it still be a saving for me?

The site says for US members only. Does this mean we have to get this forwarded from the US?

    • Good pick up… sadly, yes, it looks like you would need to get it forwarded from the US, so the additional postage costs make it look less attractive.

That changes the picture entirely lol

  • I got JB hifi to pricematch QC35 to video pro (447$) and plan to get TRS when I go overseas. Was keen on this deal but a little to hard for me (not quite enough AMEX points).
