Originally wondered if they would deliver no matter how hot it was…

This is so stupid because… THERE IS NO SHIPPING AT IKEA

You collect the stuff before you walk though checkout. There isn't any "delivery" that ever needs to happen.

Someone please try to get $800 worth of frozen meatballs

  • Surely Doogie Howser doesn't need free delivery

Ever tried putting a 2m countertop in a hatch?

    • Yes every ozbargainer own a truck.
Or must be an illusion. Every time in IKEA I see people line up in front of the delivery desk.

quite possibly one of the stupidest comments i've read on ozbargain

    • Sorry for my ignorance.

After buying from Ikea since their very first store in Sydney, I have never even considered having items delivered from there! It's the absolute epitome of a "cash and carry" kind of store.

Everybody that I know borrows a station wagon, or simply make the items fit into whatever car they had. A 2m countertop will fit into a hatch - well most of it will, and a bungy cord will hold the hatch closed. Roof racks are how anybody can transport large and long objects using small cars.

That's the entire marketing story behind flat pack - people don't need it to be delivered, as they can take it home with them immediately!

Anyway, in retrospect my comment was pretty ignorant. However if you need to buy $800 worth of stuff before delivery is free, then maybe it's worth considering to borrow a car or hire a ute so you can return home immediately with what you purchase. Much easier than having to stay home waiting for a delivery to arrive.

      • Additionally: what if you're buying from the 'clearance' section? Those items are preassembled and also won't fit in any standard car/station wagon =)

    • This is easily one of the most stupidest "deals" ever posted on Ozbargain.

ALL Ikea delivery is Free anyway. It's called "place in car, and drive home with it".

No it's not. Ikea list their delivery charges from Tempe between $59 - $149

Thank you! I need to buy a new pantry and wardrobe from Ikea but wouldn't be able to fit this in my car, so free home delivery helps!
