WTF Samsung Gear S3 Selling in Canada for Much Less

The Samsung Galaxy Gear S3 classic and frontier will be available in black as of today, at all Samsung Experience Stores, Samsung.ca and at major retailers across Canada. The device will retail for $469 (MRSP). Canadian Dollars

In Australia it is Australian $600

WTF? That is a huge discrepancy. Canadian Dollar is weaker than Australian Dollar at this time.

Why are Aussies so gullible and always get rip off in gears. This is not right. ACCC???

  • They can charge whatever they want. No one here will buy RRP without doing some research first.

The Gear S3 can be bought for $440 from China.

Smart Watches are a premium product. Not needed in any way, only people wishing to treat themselves will buy one so I don't think this is cause for kicking up a fuss over price tags.

  • dude, calm tf down lol ACCC only cares about prices in Aus =.=

YOU gotta think bigger, write an angry letter to Samsung about this price discrepancy! DO NOT buy anymore Samsung product. Tell everyone, their mothers, and their dogs. We can't let them get away with this

  • Why are Aussies so gullible and always get rip off in gears.

Nothing to do with gullibility, this is just normal for living in Australia. Its what companies do all the time that most of us are just used to it, not just with physical products but even online items.

Half of the time its a surprise to find out that Australia even gets an object or item the same time as the rest of the world. I'm guessing its a big reason why certain online shops exists, because they can resell something from a certain country to Australia and even with overseas postage its still cheaper for us then buying here.

Part of the reason I guess is due to logistics (of getting stock to an island further away then most other places) and a large part is probably profit, knowing they can make money off us since we don't have much choice in buying products.

People try to get around this by buying products overseas and posting, much to the anger of local retailers like Gerry Harvey (Harvey Norman) especially since no GST needs to be paid for items under $1000. (This could be wrong since I didn't fact check but) From my understanding even this isn't going to work next year (June 2017?) when GST is going to be added to ALL products imported to Australia due to good old Joe Hockey lolol.

It'll be interesting to see the bargains on here having to calculate GST into everything overseas now.

    • Part of the reason I guess is due to logistics

      It isn't this.

      • I think I meant \transport and logistics\, not just logistics (my bad). Its kinda hard though, I've read online companies say that it is due to them. Personally I agree with you though, I believe its mostly just an excuse.

  • are there sales taxes in Canada that get added on top?

$470 plus our GST makes it a bit closer in price too.

  • This type of thread again.

Well unless you're comparing apples to apples, its not a fair comparison.

First of all, the Canada sticker price excludes the province tax.

Also what about minimum wage. Australia is much higher.

What about overhead cost, cost of running business etc.

Australia is actually cheaper for a lot of technology cause once you factor it in, its cheaper there.

Canada min wage is around $10-$11. Let's say $10.50. Australia min wage is $17.70

    $600 / $17.70 = 34 hours of work roughly

    $469 (Let's use Ontario 8% tax) = $506.52 / $10.50 = 48 hours of work.

As you can see it's cheaper and easier to get it here.

Lots of people always complain how state in NA is cheaper but in reality, it isn't.

I hope this has enlighten you paloverde88 and to not fall for this trap on how Australia gets ripped off cause in reality, most of the time, we ain't.
