PlayStation 4 Pro returns help/advice?

Hello everyone

Long story short I bought a ps pro at launch from JB but after using it the last couple of weeks it's regularly become very hot on top and shut itself down due to heat etc.

While I like the console I'm now at the point where I can't be bothered with it anymore and just want to go back to my old ps4 (which I still have).

I was thinking about wiping the pro, packaging it up and just returning it to my JB and asking for a refund due to heat? I haven't returned anything to them before but am hoping it's quite a straightforward process or can they try hand me off to Sony/only offer a replacement not a refund?

Thanks for the help

This should help! Can't provide a TL;Dr because it was TL;Dr

  • My experience with JB HiFi is pretty good so far. After 6 months use of beats earphones, the left ear stopped working and I was offered a replacement or a refund.
I used my GoPro 4 for less than 2 weeks and somehow the inside of the screen cracked. I asked for a replacement (new one).
Both were done on the spot. They checked the items, confirmed they were faulty and gave me a refund/replacement.
Doesn't hurt to ask. Even if they offer you a replacement, it's still better than an overheating console.

    • That sounds pretty good and is what I hope they would do for the PS but I guess I'll have to see, I assume it had to be returned to the same store it was bought from?

Doesn't have to, I went to a different store when I swapped my GoPro.
        Good luck :)

There are times in the past where JB will tell me to talk to manufacturer even within the 1st year. Even one person saying they used to work at Sony and Sony does the warranty stuff for them. Just persist and speak to the manager if there are issues. You will most likely get a replacement.

  • I would think they are more likely to replace it for you rather than refund, but you could try push it as far as you can? Polite but firm though, keep speaking to someone with higher rank.

    • See this is what I struggle to understand, what would qualify as a major fault in case of a PlayStation? Surely the heat issue would but I can see them trying to deny that it is.

      • If the heat is causing it to shut down, most people would assume that to be a major fault.

You are worrying about nothing, they will just replace or refund.

      • The PS4 shutting down due to heat is a major issue so they will replace or refund.

I bought a PS4 last Christmas from BigW. Had 3 fail, wouldnt play games had error codes, 4th has been fine. They just replaced them which is what they should do. JB should do the same.

        • Good to hear! My issue is though I really would only like a refund a replacement really doesn't appeal :(

          @bloobat:
          ask for your money back.
It fails when you use it for more than a few minutes so its the same as if its failed. major fault.

@PVA: Good point, thanks for the replies I'll see how I go tomorrow

  • Could you sit it on a Laptop Cooler, which is connected to one of the USB ports ?

he probably could, but he shouldn't need to do that just to get his ps4 pro to work, when he bought the ps4 pro, he expected it to work without the need of other accessories, it will be a inconvenience to him. But still thats a good way to solve the problem for temporary use i would say.

Yeh I'd rather not go cooler route I expected a 560 dollar console to work properly and am guessing it's just a issue with thermal paste etc

        • Not sure why the neg, it was just a helpful suggestion.

It's helpful because maybe your system is actually working the way it was designed to be.
So getting a new one won't solve anything.

It could also just be a bad unit.
So I guess it rests onto you to find out if its the unit, or not.
