  • Bought the ZUK Z2, this is probably a better choice, less RAM but good ROM makes all the difference

    • +1

Been looking for a Dual 4G phone to replace my Moto G 2nd gen for a while due to Telstra shutting down their 2G network next month.

Is ZUK Z2 a good phone? Does it support dual 4G? is $163 a good price? http://www.coolicool.com/lenovo-zuk-z2-4gb-ram-64gb-rom-qual…

      • +1

Hi, the ZUK is good but ROM support is nothing like Xiaomi, you will have to hack around to get Mokee Android on there

      • That $163 price doesn't seem valid

    • Where did you buy ZUK Z2 from? Coolicool seems the cheapest so far (in 31 hours, if there is any stock left)

      • I paid $250 and that is pretty cheap so $160 is a fuxking steal

  • Only with this had an SD card slot. Getting the 128gb one bumps up the price around $150.

    • Blame it on Apple for setting the trend.

    • check Gearbest For the MI5s offer

      • Those prices are USD

  • This phone is really tempting for the price and specs, but having previously bought a xiaomi redmi note, I am reluctant to buy this because I find Miui really annoying at times.
Here is a good review and shows the same software issues as I have found in the redmi note, nothing major at all, just small annoying things https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dTzp7_QRfXE

Marchi, how have you found the zuk 2?
I got quite excited about the zte axon 7 but the price is too high for me.
Can anyone suggest another one I should look at?

    • +4

I had the Redmi Note 2 and flashed a clean non MIUI rom on it. It makes the phone so much better to use.

To be honest I would buy a Xiaomi phone for the hardware, not for the software. If Xiaomi gave people an option to get a phone with a stock Android experience, I'd imagine they could attract more buyers from the western side of the world.

      • +1

        I agree!

      • +1

IIRC their business model is to sell software services which enables them to be so price competitive on the hardware, so unlikely.

    • ZUK also has terrible ROM.

      • Thanks for this, I didn't realise.
Does anyone know anything about the elephone s7? $295 from gearbest with the code they have posted https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/278573
4GB RAM, 64GB storage, supposed to be stock android, no band 28

  • For those of you who are interested in this phone, I've owned it for a few months now and am very happy with it. A few things to note:

    No Band 28
    No SD card slot
MIUI is rubbish - BUT CM13 is stable (which is what I use), and CM14.1 is in the works
Battery life - I can get 7 hours SOT depending on what apps I'm running.

    • was it a chore to get the bootloader unlocked and TWRP + CM on it? Took me a while to get it on the Note2.

      • +1

Not really. Open a Mi account and request bootloader unlock permissions when you purchase the phone. You'll likely get approval by the time the phone arrives.

After the unlock it's just a matter of booting to bootloader, then use the following to flash TWRP

        fastboot flash recovery NameofTWRPfile.img

Copy files over to phone, flash CM, SuperSU, and optionally Xposed and Viper4Android, all done.

    • Not sure if this reliable, but someone posted on another thread:

      oztonyau on 13/11/2016 - 19:59 new
Some say they have unlocked Band 28. http://en.miui.com/thread-311977-1-1.html

      • Unlocking doesn't work yet. People on XDA are working on it currently.

        • i'll keep an eye out :) though living in metro area it should be alright without it. Get a good 4g signal on note 3 pro in Sydney.

  • Anyone know why this is pre-order? Is the only difference the global rom rather than china rom? I assume I could order the 3/64 version and flash to global..
Any ideas how reliable GB are at keeping to their shipping dates on pre-orders?

    • +1

Installing Global ROM is not a problem, you would need to unlock its bootloader… Not hard at all.

      • this is the request which takes 10 days? are we able to put that request in whilst waiting on delivery? or do we need IMEI or something?

        • Yes correct. Yes you should be able to put in the request beforehand if you have any of the Xiaomi phones phones lying around because I think it requires you to connect a Xiaomi phone in order to process the request.

Once they approve your account then you can use that account to unlock bootloader for multiple phones.

        • @batrarobin: sweet, think i still have an account from previous note 3 pro. after some google, doesn't appear to be any benefit getting the 'pre-order' global version vs china rom version, as will look at flashing rom anyway. Seems a lot of people flash the global with CM anyway. Thanks for your help :)

It is a pretty good phone for a price. I gave mine to my missus. I have just upgraded to Mi5s.
Personally Mi5 design is much better with glass back. Get the genuine cover, it's very thin.

  • Price is so much lower than everywhere else… But Geekbuying pre-order… Placing this order feels like letting it ride at the casino… Will I actually receive the phone this century?

OK bugger it - ordered. Now any advice on cases or screen protection (if necessary?)

  • anyone receive order yet? mine came with unofficial rom 7.2.8.0.0. disappointed..

    • just in case anyone comes across this down the line… Geekbuying emailed me saying that was a mistake and apologised, offered to replace phone if i sent back. I flashed official global myself, if anyone wants help with that just pm me.

  • Apparently half of the stock is stuck with DHL…

I emailed because the DHL tracking number wasn't in DHL's system, got the following response from geekbuying

    Dear Sir

,Sorry for the inconvenience and apologize for the delay, right after knowing the issue we gave calls to DHL and they admited that 50% of the packges stored in their warehouse waiting for the flight within this week. And that is a huge persentage which make us in a very diffficult and embarrassed situation of customer trust. Our boss even called DHL manager directly by himself complaining this issue, and they promised us to make all packages get on the flights as fast as they can from now. And we assume that the delay situation will be relieved very soon.

To be honest , this is the thing which happens in every peak season , especially from November to December with 11.11, and black friday sale. Attachment is the shipment proof from the 4PX the company which forwarded the packages to DHL http://en.4px.com/ This is why DHL said to you that they did not have your parcel but the package is indeed in HKDHL warehouse waiting for scanning lable information.

Please wait patiently and we will keep looking at your package and try to give you the preference.

    Susan

No shipment proof was attached FYI. silly me for going with geekbuying I guess…

    • This is rubbish from geekbuying.

    • +1

that sucks,.. did you get the delivery yet?

    • Sorry, should have updated this. Yeah, I received it Thursday 15 December, so not so bad. It's a great phone
