  • Looks like it will be nationwide credit.

    https://www.roamexpress.com.au/free50/terms-and-conditions

Roamexpress is owned by Transurban who is the major Toll operator in Australia.

    https://www.roamexpress.com.au/using-sydney-toll-roads/using…

Your Roam Express e-TAG account or Visitor’s e-Pass covers you for travel on all toll roads in Australia, including Melbourne’s 2 toll roads, CityLink and EastLink.

= $50 Should apply as credit to your roamexpress account and be used at ALL toll roads in Australia.

Before jumping in, look at the charges for each Toll in your area. $50 might seem nice but if the Roamexpress bills are 5-8% higher than other oprions i.e. Breeze card is better than CityLink eTag (VIC) this might be a bit of a marketing gimmick.

    • Why is a Breeze card better than citylink?

      • Lower initial outlay
        Lower Toll charges
        More info here: https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1459045

        • I can't see anything about lower toll charges. Initial outlay only makes a difference if you don't use it much.

          @bargain_knight:

          From the Whirlpool thread:

Both offer positives and negatives and both can be used across Eastern Australia.

If you just want the CityLink tollways, eTag. If you just want EastLink, Breeze.

Otherwise yes, look at the respective individual websites:

          eTag & passes (CityLink): https://www.citylink.com.au/buypass.asp
          Breeze & passes (EastLink): http://www.eastlink.com.au/TOLLS

          Both have calculators.

Tolls were cheaper via Breeze Tag plus no annual fee when I compared and purchased a year or so ago but not sure now. YMMV.

        • @rawm:
So basically etag is cheaper for citylink and breeze for eastlink.

$40 deposit (refundable on return of tag), or 0.90$/month rental fee (so you'll be ahead after 44.4 months of ownership)
    $50 required starting credit

The coupon code, when applied, says "Thank you. We will apply the $50 credit to your account within 7 working days."

EDIT: 0.42% surcharge for Visa (I suspect for MC also), 2.15% for Amex

EDIT: You should be able to edit car details in my account, but from what I can see, you can't update the rego details…? Is this a bug?

    • +1

The deposit has to be minimum $50? So you'll have $100 credit in your account after the deal? I've never used that much in my entire driving existence.

      • Yep, that's the minimum.

Would sign up if the minimum was reduced to about $20.

        • The RTA one is still the best then I suppose (disregarding the fact that RE comes with $50 credit).

      • +2

Lucky, my toll charges alone are $150 a week (Sydney)!

    • for me it just charged $50 + cc fee but then deducted $0.90 so my balance is now $49.10

      • So will it keep deducting $0.90 every single month? :o What was the cc fee?

  • I am an existing customer with RE for more than 8 years, I still paying $0.9/mth, how can I avoid the administration fee?

    • $40 refundable tag fee

    • +2

      Pushbike?

Or cancel your existing one and replace with a up front deposit unit?

  • +8

Or just move to Perth & never pay toll charges again

    • +12

Or Adelaide, fancy having to pay to drive on a road…. What a waste of money.

      • +12

        No electricity occasionally :)

    • +3

      What's a 'Perth'?

    • Or Canberra with no traffic

      • +5

Because theres nothing worth driving to in Canberra

        • +3

yeah they all go by charter choppers

        • @alanyang: or on all the Skippys in our backyard

The calculator doesn't seem to be available from my phone: if I'm mostly using the M7 and not too often, which is the best offering for me?

  • I saw this a while ago and googled their company apparently it's not very reliable

  • I have RMS etag. Can i change it

    • Presumably you get charged by whichever company's tag you have in the car. RMS is better value because it's free, whereas this has credit card surcharges, whichever way you pay. RMS is also free for a second tag on your account if you have a 2 car household.
I'm going to remove my rms tag while I use the initial $100 on M5 trips to get $90 back for a $51 outlay, them return the roam tag and reinstall my rms one.

      • I dislike the RMS eTag, it is HUGE. I went with goVia (QLD Company) I live in NSW. No cc fees as well, and the tag is tiny!

        • Do they give cashback for M5 toll?

        • @virhlpool: I'm not sure. however, the OPs description above says

          Eligible for M5 Cashback

Also, if you click on the link, the fifth dot point says

          Eligible for M5 Cashback

        • @newdad: I was referring to Turd's comment above about goVia.

    • if missed and a photo is taken - in this case which company charges you for the toll?

      • The toll company who owns the toll will send you a letter, it is YOUR job to pay the toll either using your RTA account number, ROAM, Credit Card etc etc…

No fees or such with etag accounts, but fees if CC

      • In NSW, it depends which operator you have registered your licence plates with. Most operators allow you to login and change the plates free of charge whenever you want (may take 24 hours to take effect). I'm not sure if your plates are registered with two providers - I suspect it could be random.

  • Can we have state(s) in title please?

It can't be "nationwide" because there are not toll roads in every capital city.

    • you can register your vehicle from any state.. so it is nationwide

      • Sure, but I don't know many people in Perth or Darwin who pop over to Melbourne for the weekend in their car.

  • +3

Yes but people in cities without tolls might drive to one which does.

  • +1

So can I just cancel the tag and get the money?

  • +5

How does this work if I have an account with Govia in Qld?

    • +3

I'd like to know the same.

Is it $40 deposit for the tag + $50 toll deposit = $90 start up then you get $50 "free" credit?

    • I want to know as well
As I'm moving to NSW next year, which one would be better ?
      please suggest
my understanding is "govia tag still can be used in NSW"
      Thanks

    • i have account with them and been using in Melbourne fine so far. Probably going to return the tag and switch to this guy.

  • +2

How does this compare to the RMS tag?

  • Who pays for postage to return the etag?

    • +1

It's a reply paid address, so them.

  • I was just about to sign up when I realised I should register my car and motor bike. However,if I sign them up as 1 account, I think I only get one credit. Does anyone know if this is true? One may as well have $100 credit fr two vehicles, as NSW gouges motor bikes. BTW, No prob. for the no tag on motorbike, as no 'processing fee' (true for RTA tag too).

  • +2

This might be a dumb question but is the etag automatically ordered when I open an account and pay the 40 dollars deposit? When I look at the etag menu I see that my Current Vehicles is one however my Current etags is 0? Soo confused.

    • +1

Me too… gonna call em up later.

On the bright side, the credit seems to have been applied already.

Your e-TAG should arrive within 7 to 10 working days after opening your account.

I'll call to confirm, but this indicates it's been ordered already…?

      • +1

Just called - an e-tag will appear in your account in about 3 ish working days once it has been 'issued'.

        • Thanks mate.

        • +1

          @orange123:

Checked later last night, an e-tag ID had been assigned. :)

  • Pretty good!!! Free $50

  • Signed up today, but no credit showing…

    • +1

Didnt you see? It says credit applied within 7 days?

    • I signed up last night, credit showed up today. :)

  • I signed up on Monday, but there is only the $50 credit I paid showing. The extra $50 has not been credited. I know it says up to seven days, but I wanted to see if anyone else was in this boat.

    • same

    • I got my $50 today! ~2 days later

      Wed 30 Adjustment − Promo New Account $50.00 $50.00

  • +2

I signed up, did not deposit a thing, got an email stating $50 had been added to my account and now there is $49.1 no deposit

    • How'd you sign up without a deposit. Final screen forces you to deposit at least $50 for starting credit.

      • Closed it off. Thought f it. Then got an email today saying here's your 50

        • lol!

        • +1

I've just tried this with another account. Will see how I go.

        • @bargain_knight: under financials tab -

          Mon 28
          Account Active
          Mon 28
          Adjustment − Promo New Account
          $50.00 -$0.90
          Sun 27
Adjustment − Per Tag Administration Fee
          -$0.90 $0.00

          Current balance - $49.10

        • @Chef-johnson: Not sure how you did it. It won't let me go past that page until I pay $90 + visa card processing fee. I tried closing the page off before the payment is processed completely and it won't sign me up then. So, basically payment and sign up happen together - you can't make one happen before the other. Can you explain how you did it?

        • Just closed it off and a week later it was sorted without a deposit

        • actually i should mention you will need a visa or master card that has no $$$$ on it, enter it etc so you can press confirm, then you will see "Sorry, there's been a problem with these details and we're not able to open your account online. Please call us on 13 ROAM (137626) and quote the reference number bwlow"

        • @Chef-Johnson:

While this was the most crucial info, you never mentioned it. All good.

  • +1

It seems no other OzBlovers have a motor bike! But for those who do, as an update to my post of 28/11, I took out an account for motorbike only and had to 'top up' with $50, and 'allow' direct debit (I'll cancel later). My account a day later had $100 credit. I wasn't charged for the tag reader deposit bikes don't use (and don't pay an extra fee for not having). It may seem obvious, but as bikes don't need physical tags, be sure to take the bike off any other tag company lists as soon as your credit comes through, or you will surely be charged twice - once by each tag company. And getting a valid credit from these tag operators is not easy!

  • Offer not working now?

  • Received my token today. :)

  • +1

    Offer's still active.

  • T&Cs state that offer ends 15/12. I signed up last night, code worked for me. I haven't received the credit yet, but I'll give it a few days.

  • Code wouldn't work when I tried a couple of days ago but it's working today.

  • can i sign up with current car/rego plates and if i purchase new car can i transfer my credit/account or just add new car to my account? new to this… thanks

  • Shonofear - you can just add new car, as it's an account, as you say, with cars 'attached' to it. You can even have both cars on the account at the same time, though you'd have to move tag from car to car, or get a second tag which means more hassle and another tag deposit.

  • Still waiting for my credit to appear….

  • Signed up on the last day (15th) and just checked now and my credit was applied on the 16th. Keep in mind though it does say up to 7 days.
