Sunbeam EM0440 Burr Coffee Grinder $76.50 @ Appliances Online eBay

C10YAY

Hi All,

This is a decent price for anyone looking for an entry burr grinder.

Been using this for cold brew coffee. Does the job, I CBF using my Hario Hand grinder anymore.

A bit messy as the coffee sticks to the spout where the ground coffee comes out, needs a few taps. Pretty compact grinder too!

I have one - its a good grinder the only downside as mentioned above it's a bit messy with the grounds coming out of the spout

I have the similar 480. They added a rubber push-on spout to reduce the mess.
But I find a lot of grounds stick in the grinder, and you have to thump the top hard with you palm a few times to get it out.
Otherwise, I'm afraid of getting "stale grounds" next time. Oh the horror.

It does vary with which beans you use.

looking for an entry burr grinder.

Whats that supposed to mean? Is there some sort of advanced grinder out there that makes coffee taste better or something? You make it sound like a competitive sport.

Refer to wdfTamar's post down below for e.g.

Entry-Level being not so advanced features such as all the electronic jazz from Breville Smart Grinder etc, it's also made predominantly of plastic. Where as your 480 is metal I believe? It's a no-fuss grinder. When I bought one I felt like I bought an entry level burr grinder, it's what I needed and half the price of the next level grinders. There's also the mazzer grinders that go into the +$1000.

And yes… there are higher end grinders that make your coffee taste better compared to this one.. though in my opinion it's a diminishing return on investment.

The one I listed above now comes with a silicone spout too, but still quite messy being that it gets stuck up there I guess.

        • it's also made predominantly of plastic. Where as your 480 is metal

The difference is purely cosmetic, I think. The construction is solid. Has survive years of daily thumping :-)
Grind size is consistent and easy to adjust. I find it easy to use, pushing the espresso head under the spout.
Would be messy with a smaller head.

        • @manic:

          Yeah it's a good grinder! But yeah I couldn't justify a $1000 grinder.

  • You're far better off waiting for a Breville Smartgrinder to come on sale. I've had both and this one is rubbish compared to the Breville.

Anyone want to buy one of these in Melbourne? I have one from a bundled package with the espresso machine, that is unused.

    • Sure!
This is OzBargain….I mean you wouldn't rip me off.
What part of Melb? I'm outer NE working in the west (talking about a daily grind) :-)

      • Sure - turn on your PM? Send me a private message.

        • Thanks and sent.

  • All the 4x0 versions from Sunbeam are much the same, it's only the materials they're clad with that are different. I had the one that came with a Sunbeam 6910 espresso machine (possibly 430). VERY inconsistent. You might get it right for one cup, but there was slim chance that it'd be ok for the next grind even if that immediately followed. The SmartGrinder is far better - you can get cup after cup with similar results and the grounds don't stick all over the place.

Don' get me wrong, for $76 this is ok and better than using pre-ground bags of coffee, but do yourself a favour - get the Smartgrinder :-)
