        • @Jackson:
Oh I see - by "this thing", you did not mean the Impact Wrench?

And a 240V DC adapter for $2?! Makes no sense.

        • @manic: sorry mate, I admire your ingenuity and perseverance, what I mean is the only use for this is to undo stuck bolts on a car tyre (because it's highly unlikely it will get used on anything else). If that's the use case, you are always a couple of metres from either the battery or the 12V DC (unless you work in a wrecking yard maybe). Further, you can get a cigarette lighter adapter for your power point that will let you connect it to your power point for about 2 bucks online to extend its use away from cars. I am just trying to think of why then mod a battery? Where would you use it that you can't already?

        • @Jackson:
OK, I see. The battery mods discussed were general purpose. I can't see myself using this particular device away from the car.

A 240V adapter with sufficient power will cost a lot more than $2.

        • @manic: SCA had air operated rattle gun for $20, when they had a half price sale on air tools not too long back,if you want to go that way
Bit more versatile if you want to wait for those deals again

  • +1

Warning! Only, use this tool to loosen wheel nuts/bolts. Do NOT use it for tightening, 260Nm is way too much for cars. This may wrap your brake discs even worse strip your screws. You have been warned.

  • got the last one from rockdale, dont know what to do with it ; D

    • +4

go get some of your expensive hardware, garden tools, sporting goods etc and over tighten every bolt you can find…
leave them uncovered & outside to rust for approximately 2-3 years…
break out the ozito impact wrench and that will keep you busy for awhile & you should get some value out of it ;)

  • Is there any sort of power adapter/converter that would allow this to run from mains power?

    • Yes.

      • anyone care to link to a product?

        • +1

Let me google that for you:

I would trust this to do the job:
          https://www.jaycar.com.au/12vdc-7-5a-switchmode-power-supply…

          Or this:
          https://www.rockby.com.au/CatresultsSql_12.cfm?select=20&sto…

          Or perhaps this:
          http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/12V-20000mAh-Car-Jump-Starter-Pac…

Perhaps if I knew your requirements better, I could recommend the most appropriate solution. There are a very wide range of products that can take 240VAC and output 12V DC.

If you need to use this product from 240VAC, have no access to a car and have no other requirement for a 12VDC power supply, I would respectfully suggest that the Ozito product may not actually work out as a bargain for you. The additional cost of providing input power will likely outweigh the savings.

@UNM: Thanks for the assistance UNM. Considering if I ever had to quickly change a tyre in my garage there is a power point right there - I would still need to use the car's battery considering these power supply products cost 5 x as much as the wrench - but still handy to have for roadside incidents. Cheers!

    • As it does the "wind up and slam" a 4 amp charger should be fine. I tested mine on a 'dead' car battery that will not hold enough charge to start a car, and got 7 good whacks off it.

  • Good luck trying to find one. None left at Brendale or Strathpine. Staff told me that they are a deleted line and largely out of stock in SEQ.

  • Plenty left at Stafford. The Old dude that served me had to double check the price.

  • They still have 4 at Bunnings Vermont South VIC, after my purchase.

Useful item to keep in the boot of the car and well worth it just for the impact sockets.

  • …tried my nearest (3173) to see if any stock around and …..nope. sounds like they walked out the door as soon as they hit $10 so youd have to be keen i reckon to track one down by the sounds of it

    • Is there anyway to check stock on their site, or you called around?

      • +1

call around….thats what i mean youd have to be deadset keen as mustard to nab one of these (and probably spend much time & fuel in the process) :P

        • I actually wanted to visit Bunnings for other staff, so I'll try one or two stores. More than that, then I doubt it's worth all the time and fuel. Haha

  • +2

LMAO : Gotta be the longest set of posts for a $10 gadget the average user would use perhaps 10 times in their lifetime

    • but the VALUE!! look how much youre getting for so little ;)

  • +3

Picked up one from Nunawading Victoria. They had few left so may be call em before visiting.
Picked up Rotary tool 109 Piece for $15 as well. They had it marked down from 39.98 to $15. end up paying $25 for both Steal….:) Thanks guys

    • Hey mate, if you could post up a receipt for the 109 piece rotary it would be hugely appreciated! Cheers

  • +1

    Thanks guys for the tip-off.
Picked up the last one at Keysborough,VIC about 10 mins ago.
Bunnings guy said they had sold about 15-20 today.
Like the other posters no idea when I am going to use it but for $10 who cares…

    • huh…when i called they said none left. you must have nabbed one of the last. happy impacting ;)

  • About 4 left in tool section of Bunnings Chadstone (on Warrigal Road)

  • Grabbed the last one at Oxley (QLD) this morning

  • Was one left at Brownsplains (QLD) store this morning
Had to get scaffolding out to find them

  • I purchased 3 from the Mentone store which still seemed to have around 10 left in stock. Cheap and will make good Christmas pressies for a few mates ;)

  • +1

    Perfect.
Didn't know they made these in a 12V corded variety. This is probably the best tool bargain of 2016, in my books.

I have the Australian version of the above from my BBQ rotisserie works. I don't know who would run a bbq rotisserie off a 12v car cigarette plug but that was what came in the box.

  • I got the last one at Belconnen ACT!

  • The staff at Rocklea (QLD) can't seem to find it in their store yesterday. Great….

    • It should be located in a small area with car stuff/ tools.

      • +1

Ta. Managed to find it amongst the Ozito shelf. Staff were surprised and asked where I found it.

  • Tried mine today. Instructions say:
Once the on/off trigger is pressed the operating LED will glow to help illuminate the working area.

My LED turns on as soon as it's plugged into the cig outlet (cannot be shut off). Anyone else?

    • I'll answer my own question.

      https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tV0GhvbALaA
This video shows an "always on" LED even when the trigger is not pressed, just like the Ozito I got. Ozito instructions seem to be inaccurate. The Ozito is probably made by the same factory that makes the one in the video.

So the Ozito instructions appear to be inaccurate about the LED coming on when the trigger is pressed: it's already on when plugged in. Their Forward and Reverse instructions sound like they got that backwards too.

      • +1

Yes, mine is also always on. The LED consumes negligible power so it is actually a good thing to have on. It shows you that you have power and gives light at night without actually using the tool.

        • +1

I wasn't very cocerned about power usage, but more concerned as to whether it was a fault with the unit. Thanks for the extra confirmation. Ozito instructions = poor.

Thanks OP. I did not even realize this tool existed. Would have willingly paid more for this as I thought my other option was a full size compressor and tool set, which I do not have space for in my garage. The nut-monkeys at the tyre stores always jam the nuts on with the maximum possible torque from their tools. Most recently I had a trip delayed by 2 hrs plus as I could not undo the nuts and had to go to a store to get the tyre repaired. It was a waste of time and money, and caused me to be late for an appointment. I was about to head out outstation and was just about to enter the freeway when the tyre pressure warning come on. It would have been a disaster it the tyres went flat on the highway. As I drive to rural locations, the ability to change the tyres on my own is vital. It's a concept that the nut-monkeys are unable to comprehend. The car wrench will actually bend when I try to undo the nuts as it is way too tight. Hopefully I can now loosen the nuts and retighten them with hand tools.

Don't even get me atarted about the oil filter-monkeys…

    • You don't need to get all a tarted up for the monkeys, just show them your banana!

      • +1

No way - they've already manhandled my nuts!

    • +1

Tested the tool today. First observation is that the marking R is not 'reverse' and L might stand for loosen. The manual shows the wrong direction. More likely, it's Lefty loosey and Righty tighty. It typically took two strikes on each nut to loosen them. I first tested them with my car spanner and it flexed without releasing the nuts. Conclusion: This is the best $10 I've ever spent on any tool. Very pleased - thanks again OP!

  • Missed out on this. I waited for too long, thanks to my laziness, and OzBees cleared them out of the Bunnings stores in Adelaide, apart from the one in Seaford. I could buy the fuel cost to get there and back with a unit for regular price, excluding my time and
    effort. :(

But on the bright side, I would have thrown it somewhere in my apartment and would have hardly ever used it anyway, so it's aight. :)

    • Try to get it transferred to your local store?

      • Do they do that? These guys don't even have click and collect, neither online purchasing, so I am not sure if they facilitate getting stuff from other stores and such services.

        • Ask and yee shall receive, maybe
I mean you live in SfA so they would hopefully feel sorry for you,
and help you to play with your nuts

        • @Beach Bum: LOL! That's a good advice, and we like our SfA so leave us alone in our little town, mate. :)

        • +1

@AussieDaddy: was joke, saw the opening, couldn't help it,
          I'm sure it lovely
And I hear you have electricity too now
Hey, we love Coopers in QLD
          So you've go that

        • +1

          @Beach Bum: Touche! haha

  • Just picked one up this afternoon from Balgowlah store. One more there and some in Chatswood.

I did get it for the tyre scenarios as my wife and her grandma recently had a flat on a freeway and couldn't get the wheel off. Don't imagine I could've either.

But also wondering if you can get some other sockets and use it for other nuts? Eg I was doing some engine work and spent a good hour just trying to get various nuts off. Broke two spanners in the process. Could I use this, possibly with an extension bar, with some smaller sockets for that kind of thing?

    • +1

It is a standard 1/2" drive, so you can get other sockets. But wear eye protection for when they shatter.

      • Yeh thanks. The Bunnings dude did suggest that they would die eventually.

      • Yep, especially if they are stainless china.

    • The orignals which came with the kit are marked as chrome vandium. I'd suggest you use the same as they are about the strongest type I think. Lucky your wrench broke, not the bolt head!

      • +1

Yeh good point!!! Broken bolt would've had me in tears.

Gee the sockets with the kit must be worth almost $40 alone the ones I saw in bunnings were $11-17 each!

  • +1

Did 4 tyres rotation today and this thing works a treat. Best $10 I ever spent.

    • I was thinking about doing this today.

Question - how do you swap the wheels around? Use the spare temporarily? E.g. Take front off, put spare on. Jack down, take back off our front on back. Then jack up front again and put back on?

      • +1

I do both wheels at a time. Swap left front with left rear. Swap right front with right rear.

Get yourself a trolley jack so that u can lift both wheels on one side of the vehicle off the ground. I dont rotate my spare but that's just me. Some people do.

    • Great idea! I gave up with tyre rotations simply because I couldn't get the tyres off. This should fix that problem! Yes, I would probably use a car jack and a standard trolley jack. Obviously working on very flat stable ground. Yes, don't use the spare as most new tyres have a fixed direction of rotation so the spare would end up spend half it's life spinning the wrong direction.

      • +1

Ah no what I meant by the spare is use it to allow you to lower the car and remove the back wheel for the swap.

E.g. Jack up front right and remove that wheel and swap for spare. Drop the car
Then jack back right and remove back right wheel. Put front right wheel on there. Drop the car.
Jack up front right again. Remove spare for back right.
        Done!

Long process but don't have a trolley so yeh.

One question - how does swapping wheels work with balancing and alignment?

        • +1

Yes, I knew what you meant. That's what I used to do before I bought my trolley jack kit from SuperCheap Auto. The spare was just to support the car while swapping the next - very tedious. I can now use the trolley jack for one jacking point and the car jack for another jacking point. The trolley jack is very stable so no toppling over or slipping when the car is lifted and two tyres can be removed.

        • +1

For your other question - if the tyres are already balanced well, it does not matter where they are placed - so no influence. If any tyre is unbalanced, you will feel a wobble even now when driving fast - you would need to get it checked.

If the car is not aligned well, the tyres will wear unevenly. When swapped, it could have an unusual 'light' feel or at worst, pull to one side. You may then need to re-align, but it could still pull to one side after alignment as the tyres are aready unevenly worn. It will slowly wear into it's new position and have a better 'feel'. If the alignment was good in the first place, it should not be an issue.

Rotating the tyres would have minimal influence. At best it it spreads the even tyre wear, at worst, it spreads the uneven tyre wear.

Just my own experience with cars over the years.

        • @IMFrugl:

Legend thanks very much for the advice. Spent a fortune on new tyres this year so keen to keep them good

        • @Hoju: I would put the spare into rotation as well with a new set as the rubber drys out over time, and hardens up a bit leaving it less grippy an more prone to skidding
          Jmo

  • I like the "replacement warranty". If it craps out - they'll just give you $10 back and tell you to (profanity) off. lol

  • +1

I got one from Bunnings Mentone (Nepean Hwy). There's one left.

It's located on the left side of the toolshop almost at the back with other various tools

    Thanks for posting this deal!

  • got one of last two at villawood today. Myself and another young fellow get them after the helpful bunnings guy found a couple that had been misplaced.

    • haha "misplaced"
AKA hidden until someone could get back and buy them?

    • In the Mile End Bunnings in Adelaide, they have been on an entire shelf next to the drills, with a big $10 sign fixed on top of them just 2 days ago.

  • Got one from Bunnings in Alexandria Sydney. It was on a stock trolley in the back of the tool section with a lot of other Ozito stuff. There were a few of these 12V Impact Wrenches left. Scanned at $10

  • Anyone know if theres stock in Sydney?

    • +1

Have a try at Chatswood or Balgowlah. Both reported 8-10 when I checked

      • +1

        WINNING picking it up today

  • Picked up 2 (my father-in-law would be jealous if he missed out on this deal) from Epping (Vic) just now. 3 left from what I could see.

  • still got heaps left in chatswood
    got one yesterday

  • +1

These are back in stock (Springvale Bunnings) 5+ left
