These are really useful - bought one (not on sale, I'll hand back my OzB membership now) because finding a new remote for my garage was already going to be $20.

Glad I made the switch, knowing whether my garage is open or close is one thing off my mind.

They just need to make one of these for the stove now 🤣

    • How was the instllation? Is it easy to connect it to the BOSS garage doorn opener?

For stove, if it is electrical, you can use smart plug, such as tp-link tapo :D

      • I could be wrong and electricians can correct me on this - but tp-link Tapo and similar devices like the Meross version which I also have (which uses the same app btw for convenience) are not suitable for stove ovens.

It’s got to do with the amps and the amount of current exceeding the capacity of these devices.

It may be possible to connect for one pot but once you turn a few stoves and the oven on, it’ll short

The same goes with washing machine and dryer. Only one device at a time.

      • It was very easy for me!

  • Does this connect to your existing controller?

    • +1

Yep all controllers should have 2 terminals on the back that the main unit plugs into. Most controllers in Australia should have support but you can contact support if you really want to be sure.

    • +2

yep got it hooked up to my Merlin door via the terminal block
Support is a bit slow until I said I would return the product within the 30 day period

      • what is a terminal block ?
can you help me with how you hooked up on Merlin door, I am struggling to find a way to set this up on Merlin door. not able to identify where this will be hooked in, can you post a picture or some details, will really appreciate the help.

Grabbed this during one of the last sales as a step forward to rid myself of keys/wallet, and has been working flawlessly ever since.

Very easy to install once you know what you're looking for/where to connect the unit.

The app can be a little clunky/delayed at times but other than that absolutely 0 complaints here.

Side note: I'd probably advise not adding the 'open/close' button to too many of your shortcuts/phone screens as I've fat-thumbed/pocket dialed this a couple of times, thankfully it notifies you on every open/close of the garage but something to keep in mind.

  • Glad to know people use when google assist available on ios

  • Also grabbed a couple of these last sale. Pretty happy with them.

Only thing is I'm getting a delay in notifications sometimes of door opening/closing on android device. Have turned off battery optimisation for the app but still occurs.

    • Yeah, I second that.

    • Try changing the opening time in settings to + or - 5 seconds. It gets rid of those annoying notifications.

  • Note that these may not play nicely with Unifi systems. I had a whole bunch of issues where it would consistently disconnect and not reconnect from my wifi. Meross support pointed me to some Unifi forum threads where there were firmware downgrade suggestions etc.

Eventually I got it to work reasonably consistantly by having it connect to one of my U6 Pros and not my UAP-AC-M which is about 3m away from it with direct line of site. Despite trying a bunch of firmware versions, I just could not get it to hold a connection with the UAP-AC-M. YMMV but issues may exist for other Unifi owners considering this, it is worth doing some reading and making an informed decision. Here's a thread to get started: https://community.ui.com/questions/Meross-MSG100HK-connectiv…

    • Damn, I have a U7 Pro and just bought the external antenna meross, hopefully I have no issues

    • FWIW, I have a Meross (older non Homekit ver) and a house full of Unifi WiFi for several years (mix of AC & 6 AP's) and have not had any issues with connectivity.

      • I have the non-Homekit version at my mum's place and haven't had any issues. The issues seem to be primarily with the HK version.

    • I have the same issue.. two of these in different locations connecting to U6 pros and constantly dropping off the network. Just have to retry repeatedly and eventually works - but not ideal!

      • Had the same issue, create a seperate network that is 2.4ghz only for the meross devices. Never had the same issue since

    • I've also had drop out issues with U6-Pro's. It seems to slowly deteriorate after a couple of days / weeks. My solution has been to power cycle it daily using a smart plug.

    • I have the same issue - but I’m using ASUS AIMesh network.

The way I’ve worked around it has been to plug the Meross opener into a smart plug, and set up a HomeAssistant ping test. When the ping test fails (indicating that the opener is offline), an automation power cycles the smart plug and sends an alert to double check that the device came back on line.

    • I have Unifi U6-lites. The Meross controllers do not speak 5GHz wifi. I had to disable my 5GHz network and install it on 2.4GHZ (same SSID). It took a few tries. Once connected, they seem rock solid and no Unifi issues.

    • I've been having the same issue. A real pain to get it reconnected sometimes.

I've only had it stable for a couple of weeks now with an ugly workaround.

I have it pinned to the nearest AP with a fixed IP ( I have 3 APs ) and have turned off auto radio channel tuning for the AP.
The garage Meross unit is also now plugged into a smart switch that restarts the Meross once a week in the early hours.

For the total shotgun approach, I also have a scheduled task that reboots the associated Unifi AP at the same time.

Messy, but seems to have fixed it.

Not sure which thing addressed the issue, I was about to just give up and replace the Meross but so far so good.

  • I have been using one of these for about a year, has not had a single issue the whole time. I only use it through Apple home, not the app. Love it!

    • +1

Agreed, but it's worth mentioning that you can set the time expected to open and close the door in the Meross app, which can help with spurious "door obstructed" warnings.

Once I did that, I've never need the Meross app again.

      • That’s true, I did have to set mine to the maximum time

  • +1

This one from Bunnings is cheaper ($47.50). It has good reviews I haven't bought either so I cannot comment.

    https://www.bunnings.com.au/orion-grid-connect-smart-garage-…

    • +2

Main difference is this unit doesn't have Homekit, so you will have to use their app rather than the centralised Home app and can't be run offline.

If you don't care about Homekit there is also a $44 meross version I linked at the bottom of the post.

      • ^^^ This ^^^

Myself and family/friends use the Grid Connect module and it is simple to setup, and if you are in the Tuya chipset world (Orion/Arlec Grid Connect, Mirabella Genio, Brilliant, TP-Link, Lenovo Cameras) then it works really well in amongst those devices in a single app.

        But.

No HomeKit integration if you are in that world of devices (Philips Hue, Eve, Aqara, etc). I'm playing with homebridge/homeassistant at the moment and having devices in different ecosystems creates a few challenges. Homeassistant is good, but flip side is that the Tuya apps (tuya itself, genio, brilliant) are quite good for the majority of people.

        • Forgive me, do i need the homekit version if i want to use it with home assistant?

I dont have apple products and will just be using google home

          • @Bluey123: No. I got the non homekit version as I don't have apple.
But I've yet to add it to google assistant

While the device can be useful, but your experience will largely depend on the garage door opener, or more specifically its wired interface.

With most (if not all) regular remotes, you can pause the operation, leave the door half open, or immediately close it after opening.

But that may not be possible using the app, even though it's called a smart remote, but it's actually dump. It is because other than a magnetic sensor to detect door position (closed or not closed), it doesn't know if the door is opening or closing, or has fully opened. It relies on a pre-set timeout to end the current operation.

Sometimes it fails to send an open signal (or the opener failed to receive it), even though the magnetic sensor is at closed position the app thinks the door was opening, but it is not. You have to wait for the timeout to tap again, but then the app thinks you now want to close it, so you have to wait for the timeout again. It is super frustrating.

I think this poor experience if partly due to limitation of specific door openers, and partly due to the app making incorrect assumptions (or may be the magnetic sensor is faulty).

      Rephrased with AI:

While the smart garage door opener device can be useful, the experience largely depends on the specific opener and its wired interface. With regular remotes, you can pause, leave the door half open, or immediately close it after opening. However, with the smart app, this may not be possible despite being called a "smart remote."
The app relies solely on a magnetic sensor to detect if the door is closed or not closed, but doesn't actually know if it's in the process of opening or closing, or already fully open. It uses a pre-set timeout to end operations.

Sometimes the app fails to send or receive the open signal properly, leading to confusion where it thinks the door is opening when it's not, requiring you to wait for timeouts repeatedly. This poor experience seems partly due to limitations of certain openers, and partly due to incorrect assumptions or a faulty sensor by the app itself, leading to a super frustrating experience overall.

      As for,

pause the operation, leave the door half open, or immediately close it after opening

I have found that these operations aren't usually needed. We use it with Homekit so the garage opener is useful for opening the garage door from iPhones, Apple watches and in car with Carplay. For us, the benefits outweigh the timeout issues.

      • I use those above operations alot, if it's just people going in and out I don't open it all the way, maybe 3/4 of the way. If it's a small car half way. If it's a big car all the way. If I just need air while working in the garage I want to pause the opening after a couple of cm.

Would this device be able to do that or would it have some trouble.

  • Hey Ozbargainers! I need some help. I have a Merlin Silentdrive Pro MR855EVO. Does anyone know where or how to find the switch to connect the cable? I couldn't open the cover, and I haven't been able to find it online either.

    • Maybe look for a manual online, not sure if this one is a correct match: https://p.widencdn.net/vesavg/SilentDrive-Pro-manual

      • Thanks mate. Unfortunately the manual didn't show where the wiring diagram is.

        • Section 4 - control panel, it shows the terminal block located at lower left of the unit, it would be behind the light cover, the table lists what each terminal is for.

          • @browser: Thanks for going through the manual and looking for the details! Much appreciated!!!

  • Would this work on an ancient sliding gate? What would I be looking for to see.

    • +1

Garage door openers (installed indoor) usually have terminals for connecting a wall switch, this smart remote makes use of those terminals.

Not sure if gate openers (installed outdoor) have similar terminals.

    • I loved it on the garage I bought a second one for the gate. I got it working on a Ditec ION with a 24V-5V USB transformer off Temu lol to power the Meross.

At the gate motor you need to look for terminals that remote controllers might be wired into. The controller will short the terminal briefly to command the gate. Simply wire in the Meross in parallel.

  • Has anyone gotten this to work with a sliding gate? My sliding gate motor is hooked up to power, closer to my house, but I'm trying to think about how I can power this thing if there is no power socket nearby. Is it possible to piggy back it on some of the pins of my gate motor?

    • +1

Some gate openers have accessory terminals, but they probably run at different voltage. Also being outdoor it's probably not a DIY thing.

      • Thanks for that! To be clear, are you suggesting a sparky? Trying to get it done for a BFT DEIMOS BT A.

        • +1

Probably need a gate specialist, which can be expensive.

I actually don't know, our gate motor (Ditec) has stopped working. Not sure if it's as simple as changing the capacitor, or need a circuit board, or need a motor.

It will be costly to get a technician to come out to diagnose, and then to pay for parts he claims need replacement. It will be hundreds, so for the past year I have been manually opening and closing it.

        • +2

Yes - I have done it with a BFT gate:
          - no power point for me at the gate itself - if you have one, you can plug the Meross into it
          - so i had to find an alternate power source for the Meross - tried a battery pack, but it didn't work (no constant power to the Meross…)
          - googled the BFT motor - found that there were 2 pins for the Meross, but then also 2 pins that delivered power
          - so had the Meross going into 2 pins on the gate
          - and then bought this: https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/134056438763?var=433498685429
          - Meross plugged into the USB, and then found the spot for the other 2 wires into the gate motor

          Issues:
          - gate/Meross is at the front of the property - so wifi range is limited. can sometimes drop out (which means the gate doesn't work)
          - also, Meross is not waterproof. Wrapped the whole thing in a ziplock back to stick inside the motor cover - doesn't fit that well, but does the job
          - i have 2 separate Meross units - one for the garage door, one for the gate. if you're using Apple carplay - the button that pops up on the homepage only opens 1 or the other. not both
          - so i created a scene to open/close both units - and use Siri. would prefer one button on carplay, but minor issue only

Hope that helps! and obv not my fault if you short circuit everything and fry your gate motor…

          • @aaam: Thanks a lot! Those instructions and issues are super clear! Especially the one about the buttons and Siri.

I'll think about whether I can pull it off on my own or not hehe. Appreciate it.

Edit: Sorry one last question! For the power pins, am I look for the 24V+ and 24V-, therefore pins 50 and 51? In that case, would the 12V to 5V converter still work?

            • +1

              @Lacieyl: i have mine going into pins 12 & 13 - see page 16 of this:

              https://www.bft-automation.com/fileadmin/user_upload/commercial_download/DEIMOS_BT_UL_-24V-SLIDING_OPERATOR-MANUAL-_QUICK_REFERENCE_01.pdf?27567360

must be a different model to yours? but looks to be the equivalent.

i can't remember what i did re 12v v 24v - but i've had mine working for over a year now, and no fires!

              • @aaam: That does look like the equivalent indeed. I'll think on the 12V vs 24V, but thanks again, really appreciate your time! 🙏

              • @aaam: Hey mate, wanted to say thank you for your input. Dug up the courage to buy the meross seeing as you also have a BFT motor for your gate.

I bought the 24v to 5v converter, but where do you plug in your signal and other cables?

Reading instructions it says one to common (which I assume is terminal 70), however the other "Radio or push button or alternative, I'm not quite sure on.

Would love to know how you wired the rest, thanks!

                • @Makaroni: Hi there - if you look at the BFT wiring diagram that I linked above, I think I plugged into number 1 & 2. there were already wires for the gate going into those pins, so i just added the meross ones into the same pins.

The meross will come with a wire - so you can test it out by sticking each end into each pin and seeing if that activates the gate.

the converter wires went into pins 12 & 13 as noted above.

I then just stuck the plastic sensors onto the gate itself - one on the gate, the other one (wired into the meross) onto the gate motor cover.

                  Hope that helps!

            • @Lacieyl: The original step down convertor linked was for 12v to 5v. My gate controller also has 24v aux output power, so after being inspired by aaams ebay link, I bought myself one of these 24v to 5v USB units instead. https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/226068903880

The Meross unit should plug straight into this USB connector. The second USB output can remain unused.

              • @JohnSy: Hi, do you know which pins the meross connects to. Is it 1 & 2? I take the step down convertor goes into 13 & 13. Cheers

          • @aaam: Great job! I did the same with a Ditect ION, using a 24V-5V transformer to power the Meross via USB.

            • @shump: eek, now i'm thinking i should have bought the 24v converter! i'm pretty sure i googled the crap out of it all and found mine was 12v not 24v… i can't find my exact bft gate model right now though. but as i said, no fires yet!

  • Would this work with Merlin SilentDrive Essential MR655MYQ? I spoke to Merlin and they suggested I buy this from Bunnings
    https://www.bunnings.com.au/chamberlain-myq-connectivity-kit…

  • +1

I've got one. Need another for my other door. Anyone know the pros/cons of two of these, vs the one that can do multiple?

  • Could it work with HomeAssistant?

    • Yes it does, you can integrate with either the HomeKit plugin (preferred) or the unofficial Meross integration. It works great!

I’ve got some built in overtime automations as well as linking to various scenes (Leaving home, Good Night etc)

Anyone know if these B&D garage door opener?
No data on their compatibility checker - https://www.meross.com/en-gc/support/compatibility-check

    • I bought one of these….have had no luck connecting it to B&D MPC3

Not sure where to connect the Meross wires. Sad.

    • +1

i have a b&d garage door opener (the panelmax) and the meross works perfectly on it. i emailed the meross help desk - and they were super responsive - and even sent pics etc. so suggest you do that? email is [email protected]

my b&d had 2 pins - OSC and GND - and stick one wire into each (doesn't matter which one goes into which though). that got mine working.

      • I've got OSC and GND on my B&D SDO-3 and based on what you've said surely it'll work with mine!?

    • Yes that checker didn't seem to list any models when you select B&D but I found this PDF https://m.media-amazon.com/images/I/91ZqeHK5uUL.pdf

      The B&D models listed were

      B&D CAD4

  • Damn it , was going to buy one but then my securalift garage machine is not compatible when looking at their compatibility list :(

Edit : never mind found out the securalift brand is automatic technology

    Thanks op bought one

  • If you have other Tuya devices, you can get a similar device from aliexpress for $28~. Works the same - plug into ground and power ports of your garage door opener.

    Pros: Saves $25
Cons: Less secure + is in cloud

    • +1

$17 with this link 3x less but maybe some quality diff.

You can do offline tuya if you are with the home assistant.

  • +2

    Works great with HomeAssistant.

Also if you have a Samsung SmartTag, u can use it to open the garage

    • You just sold me on it!

    • Can confirm, but make sure to use the Homekit integration as the unofficial Meross integration has an API limit associated with it. Also it won't work local only in the event of any connectivity issues.

  • +1

Just a heads up on this, if you want it to work with Homekit remotely you will need a HomePod/Home Pod mini or apple TV running 24/7 to create a home network. If you don't it will only work while you are connected to your home wifi network.

    • Correct, or you can also use the Meross app when away from home too.

  • Hmm this or the Shelly Garage Door Opener?

  • +1

I have been using this product for a couple of years. It worked amazingly well.

  • Where do I stick pliers or a paper clip to test compatibility?

    https://imgur.com/a/JTTRbSz

  • Does anyone use these with their iPhones? I consistently have issues, when I ask Siri to open the garage. I always get a response 'Garage door is not responding". Can anyone advise how to use these effectively?

    • Install the Meross app temporarily and check the wifi signal reported by the controller.

      • So you need your wifi signal outside your house, for it to work? I do have Meross app and I manually open and close through it.

        • The controller connects to your wifi and if it has a patchy signal then it will be unreliable.

Does the Home app ever work for you, or literally never?

If the Meross app works and the Home app does not, I would try removing it and re-adding it to your Home.

          • @coxymla: Home app never worked. And I have always tried using voice commands to open / close the garage. If I have time to open the app then I might as well just use the remote.

I do know a friend of mine, who use the same but on android version. It always work for him. Yes, he has to say PIN number but it always work.

    • Unless you have Apple Homekit set up (which now requires Apple TV with tread or Homepod), Apple Home only works if you are connected to the same network as the Meross controller. Once you are outside, you can't control with Apple Home. Google Home works well, but you need to use password to open.

      • Once you are outside, you can't control with Apple Home

What do you mean? I can open and close the garage door from anywhere using Apple Home. I opened our door for a relative when I was a couple of hours away.

        • You need to setup a home hub to do that, which now requires Apple TV with tread or Homepod.

    • Does it work when your phone is on your wifi network? Mine does but then doesn't when I'm away from home. If you you want that functionality you need to set up a "Home with a Homepod or Apple TV.

  • For me, the meross app is buggy and terrible. Rarely works when you need it to.

The upside is - added this to home assistant and has been rock solid ever since!

    • Did you add it to HA via the HACS "Meross LAN" Integration?

      • Preferably via a Homekit device, then you don't have to use HACS. It also nicely integrates via a cover class and you don't face any issues with Meross's API limit. Has been flawless!

        • thanks, wasnt going to buy the homekit version, as i dont have homekit setup, but sounds like its worth it for local integration!

      • +1

As @JSONBourne said. Add as a homekit device 🙂

        • +1

thanks, wasnt going to buy the homekit version, as i dont have homekit setup, but sounds like its worth it for local integration!
