Where's Your Go-to for Getting Flowers at Reasonable/Cheap Prices?

I wanted to get some flowers for my girlfriend, but I've noticed they can be quite costly!

So I just wanted to know where do OzBargainers go to buy flowers?

Aldi, but they are generally a little bit brown on the edges so I have to be really picky.

Asking the neighbour with the nice garden if she can pick me a bouquet.

Usually she's happy to in Spring, in exchange for a homemade cake or bottle of wine.

Avoid any of the major players online. Interflora, Roses Only etc etc all have 50-100% markup over "regular" flower shops.

My method is to find the friendly neighbourhood shop not aligned with one of the big players, ring and buy over the phone if you want delivery (or walk in). Do not buy online because inevitably you will end up with one of the market share hogs trying to rip you off (as you have already discovered).

Also supporting small local businesses rather than international conglomerates = winning.

I would have thought the Ozbargain way for flowers would be to scout around the neighbourhood with a pair of scissors and 'creating' your own bouquet ;)

some of us don't like stealing.

We have a few flower farms in our local area that have shops where you can buy cheap bunches of flowers. Most people in my local community go to these flower farm shops.

    Coles/Woolies also do bunches.

I'm quite happy with Daily Blooms. Delivered to the door - cheaper than many of the big players and more original. They often have flowers included in the bouquets that bloomm several days after they arrive making for extra pleasant surprises after the original delivery.

Also, there's Little Flowers in Sydney, and Little Blossoms in Perth, both of whom do the same thing - a different bouquet delivered every day for ~$30. Have used both and highly recommend them!

      • +1 for Little Flowers. They are really good quality although they are small. Great value for delivered flowers.

  • Don't try Bloomex!
    They fail to deliver.

  • Busy Bee Florists in Clayton VIC.. much better value for money than other places. I order from them a couple of times a year and spend between $70-120 each time.

Don't cheapen out on your GF/Wife people, what's the point of coming to OZBargain to save money if you can't spend some of the savings on people you care about.

  • Prahran markets or South Melbourne markets if you are near there

Your local fruit and veg shop may have some.

I used to go to my now wife's folks home with flowers for her occasionally. My now father-in-law used to tell me that you're better off getting them from the cemetery.

I think with society these days, you just never know.

  • Costco! two dozen roses 40 bucks!

Coles and/or Woolies are surprisingly good when they have clearance stock available.

    I live near a cemetery….

The Flower Markets at Flemington in Sydney, but you have to get there real early, like 6am. That's where the florists go…

The botanic gardens usually have a good spread, and since you've already paid for it, is it really stealing? :)

The Botanic Garden and Parks Authority receives its funding primarily from the State Government of Western Australia. - Source

Edit: And if you are ever approached, you're helping the grounds keeper. You need to conduct samples to confirm the genetic make up of these particular species. "Roses are a perennial shrub or vine of the Rosa genus and the family Rosaceae."

  • Why, what have you done wrong?

  • I found a local fruit and veg that has quite an extensive selection at good prices. Try this angle in your area.
