4k is not necessary for a screen this size, unless you sit very close to your TV.
Old Plasma actually blew up yesterday. I knew I should have listened to my Ozbargain voice on that Sony click Frenzy deal! Anyway, what is the consensus on buying now on this deal vs waiting till post Christmas. I also have the HN Amex $100 cashback up my sleeve but no experience of past sales for TVs at this time. What to expect?

The TV has sound reviews - 6.5 to 7 /10. Only 2hdmi.I went to Harvey Norman before close today to try get a price match to stack with the Amex deal (I'm in WA so sale began 2pm) - the HN salesman wouldn't shift under $1000 on this TV. Nice guy- he had a look at the deal on my phone and said I should take it at TGG - he said it's just below cost (they always say that though).
Not too many 55 inch brand name TV's under $900.
Yeah this just means the commission he would make selling for less than $1000 isn't worth his time.
Most new TV's need a soundbar these days.
