Agreed, got mine last boxing day sales and I've got to say it exceeded my expectations. Don't know how I lived without it, definitely worth it at this price.

    • So what's so great about these types of irons over the standard ones.

      • +3

1- it's like the steam shot from a normal iron is blasting through the materials the whole time
2- even though it's blasting steam it seems fine on synthetic materials, so you don't need to worry about settings or dwelling on one spot the whole time

It basically saves time and doesn't risk your materials. There may be better and worse irons than this model but I'm well and truly sold on the technology, particularly as i need to have something ironed for every day. Also if things like your suits aren't soiled and need a freshen up you can probably get away with giving it a blast with this rather than dry cleaning every time.

agreed my wife has had one for over 2 years and wouldn't buy anything else she says it cuts the ironing time by more than 1/2

        • +1

thanks for that. good to know these things.

Mate I completely agree, makes ironing a lot faster no way would i go back to a regular iron now.

      • Any idea how this model compares with the latest model?

i.e.how does this model (8642) compare to the GC9642?
I did a compare on the philips website but it doesn't seem accurate

        http://www.philips.com.au/etc/philips/b2c/compareproducts.ht…

The reason i say so is because the comparison website states -
9642 has "no burn" and "no temperature setting" functions whereas
        8642 doesn't have these functions

but on youtube videos i see 8642 does in fact have these features.

  • Hmm.. I got one from Target when it was on sale before. It was faulty from the beginning. Target refunded the money as they didn't have any more stock left. Maybe I got a lemon. Tempted to buy again.

  • I'm wondering if the cash back will work, T&C states:

Purchases from third party internet sales sites, like eBay, are excluded.

Just wondering how this would be interpreted buying from TGG but using ebay as an intermediary??

    • It's a valid concern, TGG should give you their own invoice when you pick up. I think if you use that then it should be totally fine.

    • It will be fine 100%, I got my cashback last year after buying from Good Guys eBay. The thing to note is that you get normal invoice from Good Guys without mentioning eBay anywhere.

      • +1

Yes, I can confirm that's how it works. The invoice shows the full price too so you can use a price protection credit card to claim later if the price lowers.

I had similar concerns when I bought mine last year. I received a "normal" invoice but there was some text that stated that it was an ebay transaction. I did get my cashback however, and I'd definitely rate this iron as a good purchase (saved me a lot of time when ironing my work shirts).

I can confirm this will work too.
Got 2 cash backs from eBay purchases

    • Pretty sure this is to stop people/businesses buying it getting cash back then selling on ebay and someone else then claims another cash back on the same item so doesn't apply to legitimate businesses selling products through ebay

  • how does this model (8642) compare to the GC9642?

    • I have the 8642 and its been one of my better recent purchases. Theres no "no burn" or "temp control" but i'm not sure these will be that useful. Its steam powered only so i've never had an issue with burning or required the need to control temperature. Definitely recommend. In terms of weight, its pretty heavy but it sits fine on the philips winged ironing board.

  • Anyone know what the approximate weight of this would be when empty? Looking at taking one overseas.

    • +1

Its relatively heavy, even when empty, so its not something i would personally take overseas but its fine if you have the spare space and weight available. I've seen much heavier and stranger things taken overseas. I dont have a scale to weight it and ny station is full of water atm, but i would estimate 5kgs. Dont hild me to this though.

      • Eventually found the weight on an amazon page and it was listed as 4.5 so you were close. Thanks for that.

  • Got one!

Got the PayPal receipt but no cash reward notification nor confirmation of pick up yet. Hopefully both come thru tmw.

  • Hey guys. Anyone heard anything regarding their cashback and if so how long did it take? Did you receive any comms or money straight back into your account?

I went mine in around 28 Dec so not sure how much the holiday break might be at play.

Irons great. Noisier than expected tho.

    • Unfortunately I haven't also got the cash back. I sent it off on the 22nd of December.
