To get this deal, you must first have an insurance policy with AIA. Any policy. The insurance premium can be paid out of your super. This program, called AIA Vitality, is a $10/mth program alongside your insurance policy that will grant you these benefits.

I took out the cheapest crappiest cover for $23/mth. Even with the insurance premiums and $10/mth for the AIA vitality program, it will work out to be substantial savings. e.g. $33/mth versus $69/mth in savings from 50% off my virgin active membership - net $36/mth savings.

In addition to discounts off your membership, other benefits include cheap movie tickets ($6-12 hoyts movie tickets), cashback on 1 qantas flights, and a whole bunch of other rewards I currently dont use. Full list here: Rewards. Also listed are 25% discounts on fitbit, jawbone, Garmin here

You can join this at any time - so you can join your gym of choice first then sign up for AIA vitality, simply speak to the front desk with your AIA vitality number and it'll be processed like a plan change.

I am current member of Virgin Active, so if you are considering joining Virgin Active, click through the referral link and join, I would get a week off. I'm happy to answer questions because it's such a good deal if you were going to pay for gym anyway. It's a little complicated but it's worthwhile I feel. Please let me know if you are joining with my referral. You get one free workout session with tour.

My employer pays for AIA insurance, and subsidises my gym membership. $3.70 a year for my Fitness First membership?! ($123.70 if you include the cost of Vitality.) Thanks for posting!

    • Does your employer pay for AIA through a group policy? When I called AIA, they said that only retail policies qualify for Vitality and not group policies. So I didn't end up having any luck. Any luck on your end?

  • Thanks for the post may consider just to reduce gym membership cheers OP!

Any idea how much the AIA anytime fitness monthly fee is?

You get the $100 cachback every quarter but it also says "If you are currently on a higher monthly fee, please speak to the club staff to get it adjusted to reflect the lower rate"

  • "To get this deal, you must first have an insurance policy with AIA"

    Oh god dammit.

considering most supers have by default some sort of insurance, just replace it with AIA. Plus the premiums can be paid out of super.

Ultimately, it's still a saving of $432 per year for something that only needs to be done once.

      • considering most supers have by default some sort of insurance

most I've come across have it as an opt-in, it's not the default…

  • Hi OP, Sorry Im a little confused - can you help me understand the costs.
So in essence, I need to join AIA (insurance+vitality) which would cost a min of $33 per month

Then I get half price at the gym (FF and Virgin Active). How much did you save at Virgin Active ? Are you saying you saved $69 from the 50% off, meaning your normal gym membership is $138 per month ?

So your "new gym membership" cost = 138/2+33=$102 per month ….(which i suppose now comes with "free" insurance, so to speak)

Hmm I'm actually not too sure but I'm assuming it's as simple as getting a form to fill up. I just filled up a form. I had someone assist me with the admin side of things so I'm not 100% sure. Call AIA and check with them?
