JBL Charge 3 Portable Speakers (Black/Blue) $143.20 @ The Good Guys eBay

220
C20TGG

Been wanting to purchase another JBL Charge 3 Speaker (One for upstairs and one for downstairs). TGG on eBay just dropped the price on these by $10 making it $143.20 with the 20% discount.

Cheapest i've seen recently apart from the pricing error that they honored from Domayne.

Most people compare this to the Logitech UE Boom 2. From my opinion the JBL Charge 3 destroy them in terms of sound quality (Bass and Clarity), way better battery life (claimed 20 hours)

TGG stock both blue and black models, links can be found below:
Black
Blue

The reviews i watched that was the deciding factor for me:

  • Im on the fence. Been comparing this to UE Boom 2. 1 thing i like is better sound and bass from reviews and also the fact it floats when dropped in water… not that i would be using that feature all the time but i guess it would be handy. Issue i see is the speakers are exposed on the ends so they are vulnerable to breaking.

The UE Boom 2. Is fully enclosed and looking at many videos… indestructible. Also provides 360 sound.

But for me i still cant decide. Both pros n cons

I have this speaker, my 10 month old girl has her fingers all over it all the time and hasn't caused any problems. The speakers are at the ends, but the bits you see (& I think are worried about) aren't the speakers, they're silicon caps. The ends are very well protected. There's also tweeters facing outwards on the side of the JBL logo which aren't visible.

I have $12k worth of Osborn Loudspeakers and use the JBL charge more than the Osborns. Whilst I have a shower, I use it to listen to podcasts for work, watching movie/iphone stuff in bed, outside whilst gardening more podcasts (I listen to a lot of podcasts…).

  • Thanks for including the youtube review. Definitely not getting a boom2 now.

  • The JBL xtreme is also pretty good at $279. This thing even doubles up as a soundbar for the bedroom. http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/NEW-JBL-3241397-Xtreme-Portable-B…

This price is really good, and i thought getting the Charge 3 a few weeks ago at $153 was already a huge bargain. A few pros and cons:
+ Can get very loud. Very high sound quality, provide kicking bass with exposed bass radiator! Insignificant distortion at high volume
+ Insane battery life (claimed 20hrs by JBL is not a bluff!)
+ Waterproof and can float (have not test though)
+ Can act as a decent power bank (6000mAh)
+ The price is very good for a speaker at this range
    - At 800g, it's not ideally portable
    - Does not support 360-degree sound as the UE Boom, the Charge 3 only projects sound through the front
    - The sounds it makes when turn on, turn off, activate bluetooth are a bit loud and quite annoying to me. No big deal though
    - Most complaints are about the sound quality, especially comparing to Bose soundlink when it comes to mid and high. But i think the problem can be solved by your media player's equalizer (i use MusicBee), just a little tweak and it sounds awesome! I found Treble Booster or Soft are very good options

  • thanks I just got one I dont know why but I got it. :P

  • Anyone done a comparison of this with Sony SRS XB3 http://www.ebay.com.au/p/Sony-Srsxb3l-Extra-Bass-Portable-Wi… for $169 - 20% ($135)? Specs like speaker power aren't easy to find for Sony.

  • Just got two what an awesome price. Thanks

  • Just got one, thanks for the post.

  • Here's a proper set of JBL speakers; http://audio-database.com/JBL/speaker/l166-e.html
