LG V20 $999 (was $1099) @ JB Hi-Fi

100

Stumbled across this as I've been keeping an eye on prices for this phone. Not really much of a deal but I don't know of any other Australian stockist and LG has said they would only sell the V20 through JB, so any discount JB throws on this is probably all we can hope for on Australian stock of the V20.

LG would be lucky to sell any given QA issues. So why put seller restrictions and a stupid price?? Yeesh.

    Crap phone, crap price.

I own an LG G4. The experience has convinced me never to buy another LG product again. They can sell it exclusively through Hades for all I care.

  • +1

Grey they are $800 delivered for the dual sim version. Hard to justify this much extra just to get it from JB.

    • +7

Given LGs track record, it'd be worthwhile getting warranty..

    • JB's version is Dual-SIM as well

  • How's the wide angle lens? I want to buy a wide angle selfie and landscape handy gadget. I am confused between gopro5 and lgv20.

I own a Xperia z3 smartphone and happy with it…

I really am torn. I like the sound of the hardware in this phone on paper, but am really worried about QC issues (such as the dreaded LG G4 bootloop). Buying locally with 24 months warranty would give me some peace of mind, but the price premium is pretty big to do so (considering it was just ~$725 from DWI during the last 10% eBay deal). I'll probably just wait until Huawei decide whether they want to launch the Mate 9 in Australia…

This phone isn't related to the G4 except that it's an LG. The G3 and G5 have both been fine. The only QA issue that I'm aware of with this phone is the propensity for the glass covering the rear cameras to crack easily.

      • +5

My LG G3 had the bootlooping issue, so I moved over to the G4. Same thing. I've read reports of the G5 bootlooping as well, so I've given up on LG.

      • I guess I'm a victim of unsubstantiated paranoia, when you consider the note 7 and its horrible demise this year, it could really happen to any phone maker I suppose. I do agree that it is very hard to justify paying $199+ just for Australian warranty, especially when DWI and the like usually offer 12 months warranty anyway.

No, no, your worries are substantiated. Just go through and look at the sales comments for the LG g3, g4 and g5 and you'd find horror stories. Same as on forums such as whirlpool.

      • I bought an LG KU990 like 9 years ago which was a total piece of junk. The battery was so bad that I had to get a new phone after less than a year (in addition to other problems like random freezing/restarting etc). I vowed not to buy another LG phone after my experience and was vindicated with the G4 haha.

        • I loved my KU990 back in the day, and it still works. Was heaps far ahead of everything else at the same $299 price point on prepaid.

For those considering this phone probably best to buy this phone locally. 5 day turn around for repairs for Aus stock compared to 2-4 weeks turn around going grey.

  • +5

Price drops with LG flagships occur sooner compared to other flagships. So wait a few months and it will be as cheap as chips.

  • WOOHOO $100 offff.

    Do. Not. Get. This. Phone.

Unless you like your phone being unable to boot up one day and you're left with having to put your phone in the freezer for half an hour to get it to turn on for 5 mins to transfer and back up your data before it locks up again.

    • +1

I've had boot loop to my LG G4, and yes the freezer method was terrible. But there's no doubt while I used the G4 it was the best phone at the time. Beautiful pictures, great screen, powerful hardware and even an IR remote, nothing came close to the yet.

I've been seriously considering this phone for a while now. I was able to get JB reduce it for me to $880, but I still hesitated. I previously had an LG G4 that boot looped but I know JB Hifi service is good so it doesn't bother me too much. What bothers me is the price fall of LG phones reducing resale value so I want to wait until the price drops further.

By all accounts it's a beautiful phone, no boot loop issues and great hardware.

    • I am in the same boat - I did think about going in and trying to barter the price down from $999 - I mean if they are willing to discount it at all this soon after launch they must be pretty willing to do a deal right? $880 would be pretty tempting, but then as you say the pricing history of previous LG flagships does give a pretty good reason to hold out for a bigger discount.

  • LG. Never again. They shot themselves in the foot in how they've handled the whole bootloop fiasco. I previously bought the the G2 and Liked it enough to get the G4, never again.

Can someone who actually own this phone comment whether THIS phone has bootloop problem i see lots of people who doesn't even have this mobile commenting about a completely different mobile phone.

    • The g4 started bootlooping for most people after having owned it for 9 months or so.

      • +2

This isnt the G4 or g5 or g3 is G anything it's not even apart of that line of mobile phones.

        • I know mate. Just giving an idea if the phone does bootloop its usually after a few months. It hasnt been out long enough for it to show signs.

Read my post below…a happy owner of the v20

        • What he said 👆 …..Beast of a phone .. Loving it so far !!

  • +1

I've had my G4 for awhile now with no problems.

    • It will happen one day…just wait.

      • I'm not saying it won't, or that other people haven't had their problems.
I'm just saying its not all doom and gloom.

Grabbed one from DWI duting last ebay deal $725.
It's a beast of a phone. Smooth as butter, looks great, second screen is pretty usefull.

I really cant fault it other than the onscreen buttons take up realestate. They could have had them further down.

Quick charge is well quick. Best audio out of any phone around. Music isn't flat and meh.

    Battery life seems decent.

I did have a g4 that bootlooped. Shit happens. Best phone money can buy currently. Until my mix shows up lol.

    • Where do you get all your money to buy more than 1 expensive/flagships phones every year?

    • I've always admired Xiaomi for their very impresive hardware at incredible prices - does the Mix support all the Australian bands? I actually flashed MIUI onto my Samsung Galaxy S2 many moons ago and was pretty happy with it, but actually buying a Xiaomi phone has always been a hurdle for me (mostly because I haven't really done the research as to where to buy them, the few sites I found initially seemed pretty dodgy). The Mix looks incredible and I'm sure it'll be a great phone.

As a bit of an amateur audiophile and photographer the LG V20 appeals to me on a few levels hardware wise; the only other phone I am considering is the Huawei Mate 9. I think the screen and audio are probably wins for the V20 but the camera and CPU/GPU would probably go to the Mate 9. I'm coming from a Note 4 so either would be a nice upgrade.

After my g4 bootlooped I needed a phone, so bought a Mi note pro from a deal posted on Ozbargain through a seller on Aliexpress. I think it was about $320. Great phone for the specs.

When the mix was announced I wanted a new phone…Over on Whirlpool forums many were recommending Vickmall as a good supplier. I put an order in and to be honest was just hoping I get one. I got an email saying that stock is low and if I wanted to cancel the order…I said I'm happy to wait. Word was no availability to next year. But they have some and one is on the way ( slight hassle as DHL want an extra $25 to ship to a rural area).

If you go the V20 route you wont be dissapointed.

My LG G4 is still going strong after 17 months and I still love it. Would definitely consider upgrading to a V20 in the near future.

    • I have g4. Won't advise v20. It's not worthwhile upgrade. It's more of add on.

  • +1

Am I the only one got Gray h815 g4. Going strong. Never boot looped. Rooted but restored to lollipop. Going awesome since 18 months.

  • Was the G4 boot loop a result of a bad update?

  • Not sure if it's legitimate or not, someone's V20 is in bootloop:

  • Main blocker for me is that root isn't yet available for this model (dual-SIM variant, H990DS). There's a bounty on xda for the root, though.

  • Guys , Is LG V20 worth the price ? i Need a new phone since my S7 Edge crashed :(
Also has anyone able to get a better price than $999 from JB HiFi ??

    • I ended up caving and going with the V20, it is an excellent phone. Best appreciated if you are fanatical about the hardware in your phone - though it doesn't have the fastest CPU in an Android phone (SD820 vs SD821), the cameras and headphone jack output sound quality are fantastic, and the 2nd screen I find to be much more useful than it's novelty value would imply. I ended up bartering JB down to $905 and settling for that.
