Is this the english version? Last one I bought was completely in Chinese, it even spoke to me in Chinese during set up and it didn't have a compatible english app.

    • Hows the video quality of this specific cam? looks like there's a stack of Xiaomi models.

    • +1

yes, you can set up the language to english version.

      • +1

More importantly is it the international version?

Or will we get the imfamous "This camera can only be used in China"?

        • this camera can use anywhere, not only in China

        • I got one still lying on the table which can only be used in China. Not sure why they set the camera for regions

        • +4

@Louis89: you (just!) Need to reflash it with an old firmware I've found 1.8.5.1L works a treat & there's a modified version that allows unencrypted rtsp atreams

          See this handy website
          http://xiaoyi.querex.be/instructions/

        • @supabrudda: Thanks, I tried many times, but the bloody camera always telling me wifi password incorrect. : ( .

        • +2

@supabrudda: No worries, I find another firmware, and now the stupid camera is finally working ! here's the download link for those who can not use the camera. It works fine for me.

Does this come with free membership of Mirai botnet to enable participation in DDoS attacks?

    • +2

not sure, hoping others can answer that.

    • +1

Change the default password or dont have it web facing and you have nothing to worry about.

      • Unless it has a secret backdoor like for example 80 internet connected CCTV models:

The firmware contains two hardcoded, permanently enabled accounts in the builtin web-based admin console: debug with the password popeyeConnection, and primana with the password primana. The latter, coupled with magic strings in the URL, unlocks telnet access, potentially granting administrative access to the camera via a command line. Later models can open an SSH server, too.

I suggest IoT products should have to pass certification as a criteria for import.

        • People should be very careful when having anything internet facing.

I personally don't have anything device internet facing and just VPN in. Easier and cuts the security bs.

        • @kasp: how do you VPN into your own network?

        • @furythree:

Set it up in your router. Most decent routers do it. I have some old enterprise stuff I borrowed from work but Asus's and stuff do it.

Otherwise you can configure most Nas's to do it.

        • @kasp: how is it different to just accessing your network normally

        • @furythree: It's an extra layer. Say for someone to hack my VPN they would need to know my VPN details and password, then on top of that have my phone unlocked and authorize the login as I use two factor auth.

Then if by some miracle they get through that then can access the devices which are also password protected.

Or they could just go for someone who has admin admin as the password and it internet facing so they just scan for it.

        • @kasp: oh wait i get it

so if i set up a vpn on my router. its acting like a VPN server that just happens to be a sort of firewall protected by a username/password for my Local devices

so intsead of connecting to a VPN like privateinternetaccess (whereby i am accessing their network of pcs that happen to be sharing their internet), i am actually creating a private VPN where only i can access it

Holy shit why havent i done this earlier

  • grabbed one

  • Any reviews or video samples OP?

Why are you listing prices in USD when you post in an Australian forum.

You should lost your price in Aud only

    • +1

That's not what the rules say. Have you missed the hundreds of other deals like Amazon?

I personally purchase heaps in USD because it's cheaper.

      • i buy heaps from amazon also, most of the posts on here that are in US usually also add AUD.

It might not be in the rules, but its common sense

  • few questions:
    - Does this work in all countries?
    - Is it only b/g? or does it actually have b/g/n?
    - Can it work without an access point (mobile to camera direct pairing)?
    - Can the stream be accessed outside the local network?

    Thank you

    • +1

sorry for the late reply, i have checked your question
      1.this works in all countries
      2.have b/g/n
3.you can connect it with your smartphone when there is no network
      4.not sure

      • the stream can be accessed outside the local network, if there have network, you can get the real time information

Following on from a post on Ozbargain I purchased an Item from this crowd. Worst decision!

Customer service is simply non-existent, only automated responses, don't read correspondence, etc, etc. Just so bad, never again!

Following on from a post on Ozbargain I purchased an Item from this crowd. Worst decision!

Why not at least mention the problem you had instead of being vague?

Customer service is simply non-existent, only automated responses, don't read correspondence, etc, etc. Just so bad, never again!

What do you expect? Your own personal concierge? Clearly they do respond but you claim they didn't so which one is it? If your request for help was like your post here and totally devoid of any facts what do you expect?

      • Ohh please, what a smart ….

Looks Ok should do the Job, Xiaomi Cams are good
Just have to work our how to use Easy.

  • Someone pointed out this may be a XiaoFang cam, not a XiaoMi product, though sold by their shop. Any ideas?

    • I believe Xiaomi is the brand name, XiaoFang is model or product name.

    • xiaofang means little square (per the design)

Can someone who understands the language confirm the page says "Not a XiaoMi product"?

I'm assuming home.mi.com is an official site.

        • Home.mi.com is the official website of Xiaomi home products. this is a legit product and if you are interested in more info on the device - i have done a review here on youtube: https://youtu.be/wbABJ8xJeE0

        • +1

          @adrianhughes1998:

          Thanks for the review!

We can see it is a legit product branded XiaoFang.

We should also be clear that it is stated on the official XiaoMi site that it is not a XiaoMi product.

        • @OzBen: dang let me check that again haha. Must be like the yi cameras that aren't actually xiaomi either. Xiaomi does a lot of that where they distribute other companies products on a larger scale e.g. earphones that are 1More.

  • +1

I've been looking for this. got a bunch of xiaomi smart home stuff. works really well apart from setting up the Yi camera which had to be hacked to allow it to work outside china. Hopefully this one is easier to setup!

  • Is this in stock now OP? Or is it still on pre-order?

    • +2

      it is in stock, sir

  • Can someone confirm if this is a "genuine" Xiaomi product? It looks like a 100% copy of this product https://www.ismartalarm.com/spot I'd like to think Xiaomi have designers don't stoop to this standard of copying.

  • I also can't see this on the mistore….is this products legit Xiaomi?
