Good deal but just remember the lighter the down the worse the quality is, especially with uniqlo
Yeah, you have to be careful with these light down jackets. Some are more about looks then any kind of warmth. I had a katmandu light one similar to this in looks. Hopeless for warmth - no better than an overshirt.

I wore this in Japan during their winter at the snow and it was okay with just a thermal long sleeve underneath. My issue was more the fact that the feathers came out quite often :( Still, a good jacket.
Yeah, without that thermal you would've become a snowman :P
That said, you get what you pay for. These jackets are only good to wear on top of another layer for style or during a summer night as they're very lightweight. If you're looking for a quality down jacket I would go for mountain designs or the north face. Kathmandu down jackets are very similar as uniqlo in terms of quality so I would avoid

My wife and I are traveling to Japan in Jan, and Iceland in June/July. Would you have any recommendations regarding specific jackets to look at? Need something with a waterproof shell.

Most down jackets aren't 100% waterproof so you'll have to get a shell jacket as well, they are usually very thin. I haven't seen a fully waterproof down jacket before

Its a pretty popular jacket on in the Ultralight hiking community. In terms of price & warmth/weight ratio, it pretty hard to beat. I wouldn't take this on a 5c degree overnight trip, but good enough for 3 seasons, though others have mentioned feather leaks.
Ok, it must be a better one than the katmandu one I had. The one I had I felt cold in 12-13C. Probably only good for 15+C. Why I felt it no better than any cheap overshirt at the time.
15+ I wear a t-shirt and shorts. Temperature effects vary from person to person, what might not be warm enough for someone will be too hot for someone else.

I can only speak for Day 1 - Chino Shorts… the colour they were selling in Macquarie Centre were totally different to those online.

Random question but does anybody know how much these weigh in grams? Specifically women's XS size (would be posted overseas as a gift).
A medium size women's Ultra Light Down jacket weighs 173 grams, not too sure about the exact weight of XS though

No worries, noticed online that women's ULD jackets aren't on sale though and men's have very limited colours/sizes available.

Oh well, going to Thailand and then Japan early next year, and she's and XS, so hopefully they're on sale in either country. She's dropped strong hints that she likes exactly this style of jacket though, would have been great if it was on sale.
Bought one of these last year and returned it the next week, its insulating properties are negligible. Paid a bit more and got a Berghaus which is awesome.
