  • Great fare

Last time I got a cheap fare via Air Canada, I had two flights cancelled due to Toronto being snowed in and got little to no help from the airline. Service on the plane was a little lacking too. Just something to be aware of for a Jan/Feb fare. Great Deal though, if you're prepared to spend time in Airports…

  • Please note, there is a 24-hour layover in Toronto on the outgoing trip.

Just in case anyone missed it in the OP

    • Enough time to check out the city, or take a day trip to Niagara Falls (totally worth it!).

Niagara Falls is OK in a 19th century ain't-it-wonderful kind of way however the jewel in this part of the world is Niagara-on-the-Lake .. check it out .. 😀 .. !!

      Yeah but Superman II.

If I ever go I'll try to remember your advice.

    • I was in NF in mid/late October, and despite it being sunny & 27 deg C, all of the bike hire shops had shut for the season…I was devo, had planned to ride the Niagara Parkway down to NOTL and back but had to settle for heading upstream on foot & into the woods, it was nice with the fall colours and all but not even close to what could have been seen on the bike.

    • yup, I stayed a night there…. very nice quaint little town… worth a visit

Do Air Canada have any hosties under 50 years of age? They didn't when I flew with them a decade ago

    • +1

Why? Typically the staff don't engage in mile high activities with customers…

      • he wants to get a HO during flight lol

    • omg that's so true. We are in Vancouver atm. Flew Air Canada to NY with a Vancouver dtopover on return lef. Paid $1050 for peak season.

    • 'hosties' .. LOL .. :-) .. !!

make sure u catch the right plane back.

    This is a good deal!
It works going through Vancouver only for shorter layover outbound for only about $30 more.
It also works for other Aus cities.
    For example.

    THIS: http://www.momondo.com.au/flightsearch/?Search=true&TripType…
(Click on best for the 24hr outbound rather than 39….)

Will get you from Brisbane to dallas for a week and vancouver for a week for $999. Not to mention it spans 4 public holidays (Easter, anzac and may day(QLD).

  • Is there any way to go from Mel/Syd only to Vancouver (visiting family) and back, avoiding Torronto and Dallas for a similar price ?

    • Unlikely, I believe this may be a "fuel dump fare", unless there's a special on.

Check out Korean Air, I looked at BNE-YVR and they were several hundred cheaper than Air Canada, albeit with a layover in Asia.

      • They offer a free accomodation. Not sure if that is still a case but they booked me a room at Hyatt in Seoul last time I flew with them.

    Is Vancouver any good?

Last I heard it's like Sydney, but 50x times worse because it's filled with cashed up Chinese nationals. Not really interested in going to another Sydney.

Vancouver and Sydney were great places in the 80's and 90's. Now they're full of greedy Chinese and immigrants.

  • Will flight centre match this?

  • Flight centre will match this. Just make sure to check your seats. Hubby and I booked mths ago through Flight Centre price match but we were not seated together on the Bris to Vancouver leg. Also don't forget you need electronic visa for Canada and USA. We forgot for USA and had to apply at airport check in.

I would wait got deals to other coties unless you wsnt to go to Dallas. We paid$1050 to NY in peak season now with Vancouver stopover. It's cheap for December. Vancouver has been snowing.. Many areas coverew.

    • Trying other cities and none seem to work

      Was hoping Colorado,

    • Wait.. so how do we get this 1050 NY peak season? I need to fly out Dec and return mid Jan.

      Thanks!

We booked a few mths ago. Keep an eye out on iwantthatflight

  • This is interesting - direct from Sydney to Vancouver is $1688 but if I did Syd > LA > Vancouver > Syd its $1313. The interesting thing is that in the Syd > LA > Vancouver > Syd the first stop is Vancouver! Can I just get off and not hop onto the flight to LA? Saves nearly $400 with the multi stop, crazy though how it works.

    • It's crazy. We got Bris - Vancouver - Banff (stopover) - Newark - Vancouver (stopover) - Brisbane for $1250 dep Dec 4th. 1 free stopover and 1 paid stopover. But decided against Banff when we realized weather is-15deg during the day!!

Next year we plan to fly Air Canada and bring the kids along 1 week in LA for Disneyland etc and then 1 week in Whistler. Actually maybe DC instead of LA. They have I think 27 Smithsonians/Museums and they are all free! All of them cater to kids. DC is great, you spend barely any money because all the sights are free.

We arrived at Whistler today and inc flights and accommodation it's still so much cheaper than Oz. The village is huge. 2br Condo $150 p/night supermarket prices reasonable. Vancouver was nice but not much to do for kids so just get the shuttle straight from Airport to Whistler in 2.5hrs and only $30 rtn for adults!!

      • If you go to DC I recommend checking out the Steven F Udvar-Hazy Centre, part of the Smithsonian collection, and by far the most impressive (they have a Concorde, SR71, Space Shuttle Discovery AND the Enola Gay among hundreds of other aircraft), all inside giant climate controlled hangars.

You'll need to hire a car - I found taking the metro to Reagan Airport the cheapest option (Autoeurope.co.uk website was lowest price - $50 for premium grade car with zero dollar excess, I got a GMC Yukon!), as it's at Dulles Airport, approx 50 miles from DC.

I did a loop from DC out to Chantilly, VA where the museum is and then down to Alexandria, to see the George Washington National Masonic Memorial, a very impressive structure with heaps of interesting history, and a great view from the tower across the Potomac to DC, and you don't need to be a Freemason to go in.

Finally, the massive outlet mall at National Harbour is worth a visit if you want to do some shopping, but be sure to check the website for additional % off coupons to use in store. It's only a short drive from the city and located just across the water in Maryland.

        • Wow amazing! We only had 2nights and 1.5 days in DC. Only got around to Capitol Hill/Library of Congress, Whitehouse and a night tour of the monuments. We definately want to go back to check out some of the Smithsonians. The nee African Cultural Musrum is supposedly amazing and you need to apply for a ticket online, currently waiting till Feb/Mar.

We stayed very central near the White House. It was ok but far from food places and extremely quiet at night when all the public buildings clise and everyone goes home. The hotel staff helped us order delivery.

It's crazy that there's so much to see and do and majority is free.

        • @sal78:

I did a Segway tour which last about 3 hours, it was fantastic, and a great way to see the mall without spending hours on foot.

      • sounds like you and the family have an awesome trip in front of you have fun! Can't wait to visit Canada.

  • Is the deal over? I found dates that were $961 yesterday, now its all around the $1520 mark…Even the link is giving $1500+ prices
