If you have the Amex $30 off $150 spend you could potentially hit the store three times and then claim the $10 cashback three times (with three different set of details as it's one per person).

Which would mean 6 bottles of Chivas for $23 each…

  • good price - shite whisky

    • noob question - is this better than johnnie red? or maker's mark?

      • +2

as far is blends go yes.. but its a blend and if u drink it straight up its not very nice compared to a single malt which are a lot smoother and sit better in the gut. If u plan to mix it with coke to dry ginger ale its a better choice.

        • cool thanks mate, I was planning to mix the Chivas with coke…guess i will grab a couple of bottles…cos last time I bought johnnie or maker's mark they were like almost $40 each!!

        • +4

@homersyd: personally I like/prefer bourbon in mixtures to scotch. Just a nicer flavour.

        • @Gavman: thanks mate what would you recommend in terms of bourbon then?

        • +2

@Gavman: Shudder…. my wasted youth drinking bourban and wild turkey. Grown up now, give me a scotch any day! Even if it's a chivas. Not all single malts are great either, and there are some quite nice blends out there.

p.s. i find that american honey truly terrible. My bottle will outlive our species. One man's trash is anothers treasure though, clearly a market for it!

        • @Xizor: straight up I wouldn't touch it nor a blended scotch but with coke I prefer the sweeter taste rather than cheap scotch flavor.

        • +1

@Gavman: haha mate its a whisker away from southern comfort… i'll leave it at that :D

        • @Xizor: I drink single malt and blended scotch, bourbon, irish whiskey, etc etc. Imo to mix with coke, Jack Daniels Tennessee Whiskey and in particulat Gentleman Jack cannot be beaten.

Edit: I will point out I don't drink any Wild Turkey or Southern Comfort.I don't drink spiced rum either. Or caramel mochas, which fall into the same sort of category.

      • +1

        Much better then either

        • hahaha I'm getting even more confused now…lol

        • @homersyd: its that coke vs pepsi vs coconut water

If your mixing then it won't make a huge diff, but IMHO Chivas is much better (tasting & not as harsh) then the other two. Monkey Shoulder @XeKToReX mentioned is probably better again (better then most/all single malts below $60)

Single malts are best straight up (with either some ice or water). Mixing them is mostly just a waste of scotch. Having said that some single malts are harsh & orobably need to be mixed to enjoy.

      • +2

Grab yourself a bottle of Monkey Shoulder if you want a decent cheaper scotch!

        • +1

          Or a Dimple 12 years. :P

        • @Knuckledragger: While decent, I would probably still go the Monkey Shoulder every time around that $50 mark.

      • Thanks for the advice about blends and single malts in this thread branch. I had been drinking The Macallan Select Oak straight (so smooth) and wondered how Chivas would taste in comparison. Pity your recommendations are not in this promotion

Was going to make the same post.
Point being, it appears to have been running a while and could be all used up, though probably not till after shaper's most excellent post here on Ozbargain. :)
With only a chance (albeit a fairly good one) of a $10 promo redemption, plus the reports of the "$10 off $50" voucher not working, I'm wondering should I chase it.
Love the bargain, love the odd scotch, hate effort and risk. :)

Claim made yesterday accepted so still working.

    • How do they pay PayPal or bank transfer when our bank details weren't requested?

  • Reports that the in store voucher may not work for some people. Good luck!

    • Worked for me with my phone

Cash back claim accepted - that was fast.

  • So, has anyone been able to use the inshore save 10 off 50 spend? in the last week.Last I tried the store said it had been used already.

$10 off $50+ Spend In-Store Voucher (Expires 30/1/2017)(files.ozbargain.com.au) Original Post, thanks tonester

    • In short… no the voucher does not work/scan, but it worked for me via manual override by the cashier.

Scenario… I printed out 3 vouchers and took them to the store, used one and the cashier couldn't scan it, it wouldn't work, she asked me if I already used it, I said no… after about 2 minutes of waiting and her conversing with other staff, she then manually entered the $10 off, I paid and I was on my way.

I gave one of the vouchers to a customer behind me and said 'here use this, gets you $10 off a $50+ spend'… whether the cashier gave him the $10 also, who knows.

  • Does anyone know if The Bailie Nichol Jarvie is still available anywhere? I think Dan's discontinued it. For a cheap blend it blew Johnnie Walker into the weeds.

  • This spirit in particular sells for 46 bucks on a regular day at BWS. Right now, price hipster says its on sale for 39 bucks.
