Why does cashback on this deal show as 50%? Surely that's not right…

    Oh and energy-star rating… 2 Stars. That's why it's cheap.

Keen, but it only has a 2 star energy rating.

Don't look at the number of STARS. Look at the actual KWH per year used number. Some fridge have 2 stars but consumes less KWH/per year than 4 star fridges of the same size. I would recommend the samsung fridge equivalent. I bought Westinghouse but the fan motor that circulates the air is noisy. Can be heard even if watching TV in the living room.

eh!? Example please. They changed the system a few years ago, so perhaps somebody was mixing the old and new systems?

Energy rating. Up there with low fat as great lies in our lifetime.

    • Not so much lies as dumbing down. The fat thing started as factual but got out of control as a fad.
People who bothered to look at the facts were not lied to, but most people just read the glossy magazines and TV adverts. Blame the dumb lazy consumers. Blame the greedy heart foundation selling their tick for profit.

I've no idea what the stars mean, but 602kWhr means something like $150/year. More if you have kids opening it all the time.
So the question is, how much more efficient are 3-4 star fridges? Answer: a lot!
A similar sized 2-door Samsung/LG will save me at least $50/year in power, can cost a little less up front, and probably be a lot more reliable.

The 4-door might have some use in confined spaces of a badly laid-out kitchen (old house?), but probably people just think it looks cool.
Until the mechanism between the doors breaks. Bad idea.
