Ooh got one last time .working great …hmmm backup for primary ssd ?

    • +1

You're using the one you already have as a primary ssd?

I'd be buying a nicer drive for your primary, and use the one you have as your backup and/or mass media drive.

    • +1

Bugger that, got one and using it as a primary. Never need to worry about drive mappings lol.

It's still many times faster than a HDD, but you can feel it slow down when transferring 50gb+ files in one go as the buffer runs down.

That Crucial MX 750gb for $143 delivered fully spoilt me… now I'm comparing all SSD deals to it!!

    LaMMi

    • Was gonna say the samething. The 143 for 750GB benchmark wont be met for a while!

    • +1

Damn, I missed that one. :(

    • So much this! >:( ARGH

      • +2

I swear.. if that MX300 comes back on sale for that price, I'm going to get everyone in my household to register and get one!

    • I cannot fap to any ssd after that :|

    • I got one of those too! I love u ozbargain.com.au!

Amazon's conversion takes into account its own set of fees into the rate. Fee-less cards will likely get you the amount OP listed if you pay in Euros.

My Ultra II 960GB bought from Amazon US failed after 11 months used, just filed an RMA with Sandisk Au they will send me a replacement, but my files were all gone, keep in mind don't put your important files in an SSD. I also got the MX300 750gb and using it. I think I will sell this replacement Sandisk Ultra on Gumtree, considering so many alternatives available, cos I will trust Sandisk no more. (I also got a 128gb thrumb drive from Sandisk in write protect mode, I will not send it back with my private files, plus you have to pay return shipping)

    • +8

keep in mind don't put your important files in an SSD.

You can literally apply that to any storage medium. They're all going to fail at some point.

That's the reason why we have backups.

      • -7

        HDD has lower failure rate.

        • +5

All mechanical hard drives are more reliable than every SSD out there?

Would love to see your proof on that.

        • -5

@Porthos:You misinterpreted my message. I am saying this with my OWN experience. I have 5 sandisk drives and 2 of them failed within a year, and all my HDDs worked fine with at least 5 year mark. If you want more information, welcome to use google.
I wanted to say is simply IN MY OWN EXPERIENCE, don't trust SSD like the way you do with HDD, not even a brand like Sandisk. For HDD we have ways to recover some files, but for SSD it's much harder or unrecoverable. If you like Sandisk, go for it, I personally don't like Sandisk for the above reasons.

You see on Amazon reviews, Sandisk Ultra has 4.3/5 with 10% 1-star reviews (most have experienced drive failure I believe), Samsung evo 850 4.8/5, Crucial MX300 4.5/5

@rainbowyen: maybe try buying one of the higher end Samsung or Intel SSD models.

Not all SSDs are created equal, which also applies to HDDs.

        • @rainbowyen: With all due respect, there's always someone like you posting something that is anecdotal at best, misleading at worst.

        • In the early days of SSD, failure rates were clearly very high.

SSD failure rates differ - the chance of failure increasing linearly each year. After a few years, HDD failure rates get higher than SSD ones. The better manufacturers fare much better.

Tom's Hardware covers it in detail:

          http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/ssd-reliability-failure-…

        • @rainbowyen: I have 2 Sandisk Ultra II's in my 2 PC's at home, as well as 4 in the computers I built for work.

None of them have had any issues at all. My Evo 830 hasn't had any issues as well.

    • Would it be safe to use as a PS4 storage?

Just got 2 HDD failures from seagate in the past year & switched to WD Black

I was lucky to recover the files from those 2 hdds

      • +1

Yes, I had a 1TB SSD in my PS4 for a few years, only helps aq bit though, not heaps

      • +1

Backup your saves online or regularly with an USB FLASH DRIVE, the gaming files are all downloadable.

      • Safe to use, but you won't get as large a benefit as putting an SSD inside the PS4Pro which has a SATA3 interface. Benchmarks show a large load time difference in games such as FF14 on the PS4 pro with an SSD.

        • I tried put an ssd in my slim and had no noticeable boost.

        • @rainbowyen:

The slim still uses sata2 so it won't max out an ssd. You'll still get a benefit but only in some games. When I played destiny on ps4 with an ssd, I loaded into maps 10-15 seconds before my party members. Difference is now bigger on ps4 pro with an ssd.

Ssd reliability is hit or miss. I've had some bad luck and some good luck. I've had one patriot drive and two Intel drives fail on me but I've had no issues with one Intel and two SanDisk drives on my pc and a Samsung in my ps4 and ps4 pro.

Mine died after only 2 months of use. XD

I am also waiting for my replacement from Sandisk and it's been almost 2 weeks.

Make it a habit to back up your files.
Mechanical HDD or SSD, they both can fail without warning.
Get an external drive and then set up a schedule to back up all your files periodically.

Don't risk it, having redundancy is a MUST.

    • Hi , one of my two did the exact same thing - 10-11 months old and failed … its on its way back from rma since the start of December from the states… heads up this drive has a higher failure rate than every other ssd i have { i have quite a lot }

What does one do with this?

    • +2

Use as a cheese board to serve guests at fancy parties.

    • +1

Carry in breast pocket as a protection against random fire.

  • You install steam games on this. It loads faster.

Can I whine, again? How crushed I am, I missed a 750GB for $150 AUD shipped from Amazon on Black Friday? God damnitttttttttttttttttttt

    • +1

Don't worry, there's always next year, and it may be a 1.5TB drive.

    • +2

I hate to break it to you: it was $143 :D

  • I wish new mbp support ssd upgrade but we'll…

    • Easy solution. Don't buy a Crapple

  • I got this guy and so far so good.

I do transfers to and from the drive using multiple computers over the network for work and I get no bottlenecks at all.

  • I got this deal from Amazon Germany on the 19th of November and it never arrived, I emailed them so they send the replacement and yet again they missed the delivery date, check the tracking on UPS site and the item is not even shipped it yet. They told me to get back to them on the 28th if the item haven't arrive. Should I just get a refund or another replacement. Seems strange that for an item to get lost twice with 2 different shipping company.

    • It happened to me with another SSD purchase at Amazon Germany. After a month of wait they have declare it is a lost and sent me another one which did arrived uneventfully. I find Amazon Germany is not as good as Amazon.com.

  • Wtf. I bought 3. They arrived. But there was a 3.5 inch HARD DRIVE inside the SanDisk ssd box!!! It came with ssd instructions and everything! Total of two ssd's and one 1tb hard drive. HELP

    • Amazon stuff up again. They are getting too comfortable while on top of the game. It is going down hill by the look of thing. I am hesitating shopping with Amazon.de.
