Breville BES920 Dual Boiler Coffee Machine $798 ($698 after AmEx Cashback) @ Harvey Norman

670

I've been waiting for the Breville BES920 to return to a similar price to earlier in the year

It doesn't come with the grinder, but it has great reviews, and seems to be well loved by the OzBargain community as well.

Does require the AmEx $100 Harvey Norman cashback (which has now closed to new cards), so if you had been holding out on using it until Boxing Day in hope of something like this, this is your chance.

Can't find an expiry date on the HN website, but assume it is limited.

This is part of Boxing Day Sales for 2016

Is this actually bargain? Seems expensive particularly without the grinder being included.

    • How is it expensive? The bundle is often around the $1200-1300 mark, and the grinder is $249 on its own.

You could buy this for $698, and add the grinder for $249 at full price = $947 and still come out well in front.

      • I thought the bundle has been sub $1000 before..

        • When? Genuinely interested.

I can't find it if it has (and I've been watching this specific product for a while), asides from the deal I linked to in the OP, where again, it was the standalone machine.

Even if it has been sub $1000 before, this deal plus the grinder at $249 is still sub $1000.

        • @aleayr: It has been sub-$1000 before, last year HN ran it on clearance @ $699 while Myer was also doing the smart grinder for $199 at the same time. Was also available last year in bundle

        • @jackary:

          Good to know :) Thanks!

    Im in melb.
Willing to assist 1person to obtain this with a smart grinder at HN.

    Cost to you $850.

    • Why the hate?
I only can assist 1x caffeine ozb friend.

(Or… should i not have offered at all?)

  • While this is a good machine at a good price and others have mentioned it: This machine will take a long time to start up (it uses boilers). If you want a quick startup time get a thermoblock machine.

When I was looking at a machine for my partner about 5 years ago I choose the Sunbeam EM6910 (dual thermoblock) because the startup time of the boiler machines doesn't really suit us.

We don't tend to drink coffee at any specific time, so If I think I want a coffee I will turn on the machine then grind and tamp and by the time I do that the machine is ready. With a boiler machine there'd be quite a bit more time waiting and by then I would've been distracted by the kids screaming about something or other and forgotten.

I went the EM7000 route and now that the EM7100 is out the 7000 should drop in price. It costs $699 from tgg without any Amex offer. https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/sunbeam-cafe-series-espresso-…

I really enjoy this machine and my parents have the 6910 which I love too. At home mine is coupled with the em0480 grinder but I have to use a blade grinder at my parents place as they don't have a good one yet.

      • +1

Same em7000 and smart Grinder. Fresh roasted beans every fortnight from local roasters - that is key!

  • Im not sure why people are quoting slow start up for the 920, mine does in in a little over 3 minutes. The 900 model was much slower as it was only 1800watts. The 920 is 2400 watts.

Yes, the dual thermo block machines are a minute quicker. I'm happy to wait that extra minute and enjoy a better tasting coffee.

    • If it only takes 3 minutes then that's not bad at all for a boiler machine. Back when I was looking the ones that I was looking at took about 4-5 minutes (with some of the more expensive machines taking even longer).

    • Edit:…. Just 2 minutes 15 seconds for the machine (main boiler) to reach 92c this morning. Another 35 seconds for the steam boiler to reach operating temp.

Those quoting 5+ minutes must have a faulty machine or own the older BES900 model.

      • My machine is not faulty. All 3 dual boilers I have owned have been 5 minutes, plus.

35 seconds after your brew boilers preheated, you have 100% functional steam? Heh, I promise you don't, but enjoy your cups of residual steam buildup pal…

  • i seriously doubt TGG will offer the smart grinder for free since the actual package (smart grinder bcg820 + bes920) is having a different model as BEP920.
But good luck to those brave ozbargain pioneers

    • The models are also confusing to Breville too.
For the free 3 months coffee subscription, BEP920 is stated in this link -
      https://www.brevillepromotions.com.au
But BES920 is stated in the T&C of this link -
      http://breville.pabloandrustys.com.au

      • Am i reading it wrong?
        I dont see the Bes920.
        Please help

        • +1

          It's in section 3 of the T&C.

        • @grababargain: I think it's just a typo, the T&C's rather clearly use the name 'Dynamic Duo'… albeit with the BES920 model #

    • Might be the discontinued BGC800 smart grinder without the "pro" included in the BES920 to clear old stock?

    • Are the BeP920 and BeS920 the same machine ? Just different product numbers for bundle vs stand alone purchase?

      • it's the same coffee machine but Bep comes with a huge box and integrated user manual. Also Bep comes with three colours where BES only got silver chrome colour

The good guys just honoured the catalogue deal for me coffee machine + grinder for $798. Not sure how to upload receipt….

    • @ Timocracy
Could you upload your receipt please? They won't do it for me after buying it yesterday. Cheers!
Upload your image to Photobucket or similar and copy the link they provide for your image to insert in your reply here

      • I bought this yesterday on the net, store pick-up did not include the grinder in pack. Do I need to go back for the grinder now? Please confirm.

  • +1

    Thanks for the deal.
    Much appreciated.

  • Coffee so called experts think they are all correct and that's why I choose not to get into an argument on what is best. The machine in this topic is a good machine for under $800. I think we can all agree with that.

Hey Guys just letting you know I just purchased the BES920 at TGG (Lutwitch) and was able to get them to include the Breville Smart Grinder Pro for the $798.

    • +1

Would you be so kind to upload a copy of your receipt please? My local GG will not honor my purchase yesterday. Cheers!

      • Yes please do!

        • See below.

        • You're a champ! I have just called my local GG but they are waiting for a reply from head office. I will go into the store in the morning to show them your receipt and hopefully will get a positive outcome. Cheers mate!

        • Don't forget to claim your 3 months of free coffee (12x 250gm). BES920BSS in your receipt is an eligible model. The promotion ends Dec 31.

        • @grababargain:

Site doesn't seem to be working for me

        • @chinezejew: The link works fine.

        • @grababargain:

          Hrmm… chrome? Ie? Mozilla?

        • @chinezejew:
          On Chrome

        • The TGG catalogue has been corrected. HN will not honour the price match. If you got this deal you got a super ozbargain!!

        • Insane deal. Enjoy it.

        • @Appleboat:
I carried my laptop into the store and showed them proof of the page! They weren’t too interested in the receipt the other user posted (despite calling the other store for conformation), however after seeing it on the catalogue they gave me the deal.

Here is a screengrab of it:

Hope it helps someone. Good luck!

I got my deal from the same store, were you the guy I saw in the carpark mikeyb?

      • Haha yep was me. Saw someone else getting the deal and thought they might be an ozbargainer too :D

  • +1

TGG in Castle Hill also honoured the deal for me. Initially when I asked they said the grinder was not included, they pointed to the 'grinder included' deal at $1,089. Luckily, I had taken my laptop to show them the deal online, they didn't seem too happy but after much group deliberation they agreed to include the grinder. They did not carry the grinder in stock so that is on order. The grinder on display with the $1,089 deal was the Smart (non Pro) grinder.

I did try to be cheeky, firstly I visited HN to see if they would match the deal, thinking they might throw in a Smart Pro grinder (only one they carry) but the guy said it wasn't part of the BES920 package and that there was no way he could consider including the grinder, he didn't believe TGG would either, he invited me to challenge them.

    • @eeney
Good for you! HN will not do it for me either but glad to hear you got the deal. Just waiting for their response.

    • Should go back to HN and show them that TGG did do the deal and see if they'll beat it.

    • +1

No luck getting the deal at TGG for me, they just said it was a mistake on the website and pointed me in the direction of the $1,298 BEP920 bundle (which itself doesn't make sense as the BES920 plus smart grinder pro on their own total only $1,050).

  • got one from TGG $798 with pro smart grinder. I didn't even say anything the salesman told me it included the grinder so I just kept quite.

    • Well done! Which store? Could you upload a pic of your invoice? My store will not honor the deal and it looks like their website has been changed.

      • I'm in Perth. I'll upload the invoice when I get home.

    • You've done well there, I got the grinder but not the 'pro', I haven't collected it yet, but the receipt has the standard grinder code.

I already have a smart grinder so I've been using the machine, in regards to earlier comments:

      • The machine starts up very quickly for a boiler, perhaps two minutes.
      • Dialing in the grind and pulling a great coffee is very easy - just watch the Breville videos - and buy some fresh coffee for best results.
      • The steam wand is like a fire hose, it could steam a bucket of milk on full power, amazing (obviously you don't need to use full power).
  • +2

Well, after speaking to them for the last 3 days since my purchase of the BES920,I finally got the Smart Grinder thrown in as advertised online. Happy times!

    • Great persistence! Slightly disappointed I didn't see that deal before buying through HN :)

    • good work.

  • +1

The good Guys Loganholme did the coffee machine and threw in the grinder. I don't think they'll do it again though in a hurry…
