Optus Alcatel 20.45X Prepaid Mobile Phone $14.5 @ Coles

30

Good price for a dumb phone which I'm looking for.

Not in the catalogue but it's official and national wide I believe.

It might have been cheaper but it's the best prize at the moment (Officeworks $25, Optus $29…).

Locked to Optus, I think. Not worth unlocking anyway ;) .

A perfect new's year's gift for prison inmates.

      • I thought phones weren't allowed in prisons…

It's small size allows it to be carried easily on the person.

@scrimshaw: Its actually pretty big. Mainly so old people can look at it.
It would hurt if someone attempted to hide it up there ;)

@OneBillionDeals: you would be surprised what has been hidden up there. watch those prison documentaries and border security tv shows for more details.

This watch I got here was first purchased by your great-grandfather during the first World War…

        • @scrimshaw:
          or in the person LOL

    • It might be useful for someone with early stage dementia that's familiar with answering on older phones.

    • Optus shuts down 2G in Apr 2017

      *3G Optus channels
*Big buttons, clear screen, no touch screen
      *candybar style, not flip
*lots of features, but i wouldn't expect much from most, esp internet, camera. Treat it more as a dumb phone replacement.

So, if you're mainly looking for phone/sms and upgrading from old Nokia with T9 or like, this might be worth a look. Only thing it seemed to be missing was speed dial :-/

Got one for senior person at Xmas and they are liking it and not too confused coming from an old Nokia.

For $15.00 more you can get a 4G smartphone -
ZTE Zip 4G from Coles at $29.50, Limit 1 Per Customer [Optus Prepaid]

Or Coles has the Telstra pre-paid Cruise for $9.00 with 5gb data/14 days

  • Has anyone had any success unlocking one of these so it can be used with Aldi Mobile sim?

  • The missus grabbed one of these for 15 or so a month back, solely for the FM radio. Couldn't find a decent radio anywhere here for under 20 and throwing in a backup phone and flashlight definitely isn't a bad thing.

  • Price match @ Officeworks for $13.78, a tidy saving of 72c

  • Word of warning: I haven't found a way of unlocking this phone aside from paying Optus $80 to do so. Seems like you have to take it into the store and have it unlocked - online unlocking services do not appear to support this model.

    • I have wasted $7 already trying to unlock this phone would be great for my Grandmother who needs the big key and I dont think a touch phone would be that good. I bought her a Cruze when her last phone stoped working at the start of the month when they turned off 2g here

      • Same, had to replace my parents flip phone when 2G ran out. Bought them this phone only to find out that it can't be unlocked cheaply (I'm not sure the punks ever refunded me) and bought an unlocked Cruze off eBay… only to find the letters are too small for them to read and the screen is a lot smaller. Far out. Hard to find a decent 'dumb phone' for older people.
