Voodoo Knife Block on Catch of the Day!

180

Just ordered one for myself, couldn't resist for $80! Cheapest I've ever seen this, in shops they're around $170, cheapest I've seen them until now is about $120.

  • Good price, any comment on the quality of the knives?

      Low.

      You're paying for the gimmick.

I recently spent $70 on one knife and i have to say it is fantastic. There is no comparison between it and the cheap knives i have always had in the past.

I dont think these will be great knives, they will probably not sharpen as sharp as good knives or hold their sharp edge as long however for general use they should be fine.

It depends of you can justify the extra cost, if you just want some knives to cut things then these will be as good as any other cheap set.

    • Not as bad as you would think they would be, I got one of these as a present years ago before everyone else had them and the knives do dull quite easily but they still get the job done. At the end of the day what do you expect for $80

I saw these for $30ish on 1-day.com.au earlier this year/late last year.

EDIT: Correction, it was $24.95 on 16 December

I got one off 1-day.com.au just before Christmas for around $30. I can't believe they sell for $170+ in shops. The red guy is cheap plastic, the knifes blunt and are not great quality either. I got it as a gift for someone who thought they were cool.

This looks really cheap when you compare it to their pen set at $70

Yeh it's awesome; but the novelty has worn off now that everyone has seen them.
    It takes up bench space
And $80+shipping? You can almost buy a decent knife from Peters of Kensington for that amount!

Quiet down haters, this thing is awesome - esepcially as I just got one :D I'll let you know how the quality of the knives are, but I'm used to $5 knives so who knows.

  • I have a friend who has one of these. The knives are actually pretty good.

Is there a female version ?

    • +15

no but you can make one. You need 5 knives n a female. Rest you know. N don't forget a lawyer.

      • Lol no wonder they dont advertise it :)

      • Comment of the day! +1

      • Why 5 when you can go for 30++ knives? Wooden stakes are better, I think. More feedback and satisfaction.

        • Me thinks that's for vampires!

    • +2

No, because that might be sexist, would receive complaints and there would be an organised campaign to protest the company… Whereas we can just appreciate this as being cool/funny ;-)

      • +1

yeah people will start writing to ACA and TT complaining that it encourages violence towards women and "why isn't the government protecting us from shops selling it".

      • So, it's ok to stick it into a guy? Some of those knives are pretty close to the spot….

  • Just buy a Tojiro gyuto for that price.

I was gifted one of these years ago… the knives are average and got rid of them pretty quick.. stand is really good.. replaced the originals with a proper set of knives.

We've heard of wedding presents. A matching set of these would make great break-up presents for the couple seven years later. Boom-tish ;-)

  • for all those people that are saying the quality is bad, have you personally used these? because i must disagree, to a point….

i was given this (chrome version) by my gf few years back for my birthday, she spent $180 or so back then (from some knife shop) so i'm not 100% sure if these are of the same quality

the quality of these knifes are awesome! best i've ever used. the most i've spent on a single knife wouldn't be more than $30 prior to using this however, so i'm not exactly qualified to give a critical review but, all i can say is that they're GREAT and more than sufficient for any household excluding professional chefs. i mean if you're a professional chef, you wouldn't be here looking for cheap knives anyway right? so i see no reason why anyone here would be knocking it.

few times when i saw this on sale here i tried to buy another set just for the knives (i always missed out, sold out too quick)

    • "the most i’ve spent on a single knife wouldn’t be more than $30 prior to using this"
      Pretty much says it all.
A good knife will last you a lifetime, not 2-3 years. They're worth spending the extra money on. You CAN feel the difference.

  • If 1-day managed to do this exact same product for $24.95 + $6 shipping, I think this COTD deal is a ripoff. Sure, 1-day is no longer selling them, but the deal wasn't long ago: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/20300

  • The knives are worth more than $80 if they are from the original Vice Versa knife block. They are vanadium steel and pretty good. They blunt but so does every knife. Good knives imo. Treat them well and they will be good for a good while.

dont waste your cash…. spend it on a Global…. who cares what holds the knifes, its the knife itself! after a month the novelty of a red man will wear off, and so will the quality of the knife set. get a Global chef knife, rest it on the edge of a ripe tomato and let the weight of the knife slice through it like water…. now that never gets boring :). pretty sure Peters of Kensington have a full set of Globals for like $300- which is less than half price at the moment (i think I saw it on telly).

  • Dont know if they are in every state, but Harris Scarfe have these on sale for $29.95 almost once a month.
