  • Why pay for any VPN, when browser "Opera"
    now INCLUDES a Free -UNLIMITED- VPN "in the box"?

    PS Exception: Opera forbids use of torrent-based
    file-sharing (but intends to allow it "soon").

    • +1

      Opera is a good free alternative. My recommendation was mainly due to quality of service at exceptional price. I heavily use torrents and its one of the best available.
      Windscribe has positive reviews on web, they are based in Ontario, Canada unlike others based in US.

        I once paid "VPN Unlimited" for a lifetime license (covering 5 devices) for [US]$29 (deal price), & soon went back to spend a bit less (from memory) to add another 5 devices… generally, I like their service.

        But that was BEFORE Opera added its VPN functionality, thereby disrupting the VPN market (for "non BT file sharers" at least).

        I'm generally happy to support Canadian companies, so… Go For It.

        • "AU needs more CA" ;-)
          Enjoy via app "CBC Radio"
          . As it Happens;
          . Laugh Out Loud;
          . Quirks & Quarks;
          . White Coat, Black Art;
          . etc.

        PS Canada & Canadians have the heart to:

        • vote-in (another ;-) Trudeau & accept cabinet with a mix of:
          . a Hindu Defense Minster (he's the 1 w/the Red Turban),
          . a First Nations Justice Minister
          . lotsa women

        • PRIVATELY-sponsor Refugees (eg, Afghans… LOTS of them)
          . CA is setting a new standard in How to Take-in refugees
          . AU still has too many Detained (Cf "Chasing Asylum" doco)

        "Past is Prologue"
        . Canada took in folks fr USA who didn't want to war in Vietnam;
        . often they were students, not wanting to disrupt their studies
        . not to mention risk get injured/killed/drug-adicted there)

        CA seems to have embraced India's "Soft Power" to some degree

        Oh, it's a Canadian co., who aims to build Small, Safe,
        LIQUID FUEL, MOLTEN SALT REACTORS (MSR) by ~2024

        Cf ThirdWay.org's report: "Intro to the Advanced Reactor Industry" (2015, & its 2016 Update, on their web site)

          Obviously still enjoying NYE still?

        • @supabrudda: Probably…

          In a Zello channel, yesterday arvo
          others were just getting ready
          celebrate NYE…

          (Or, did you mean Bill Nye? If so:

          I'm not pleased by ONE of
          that guy's policies:

          I think he may be anti Nuclear Energy.

          Oh well, nobody's perfect… ;-)

        • @supabrudda:

          I think he likes to talk in psudocode like verses to trigger schizophrenics

        Opera is owned by a Chinese company (Qihoo). Whether or not that's a cause for concern, I'll leave to your own judgement.

        • +1

          Thanks, I didn't know that.

          Hmmm.. Qihoo… is that as in… Ah… Ah…CHOO!..? ;-)

          (Maybe Opera Users can persuade Opera
          to Open Source their prodcuts, based on
          the concern you cite…?)

        • @IVI:
          Qihoo paid $600 million to buy Opera last year .. I doubt they would then open up the source code.
          Also from the Opera FAQ: "Opera has no current plans to open source its browser."

          @noz:

          Good to know.

          Until AU's MobileTelco's catch-up, eg, by
          offering Unlimited Quota mobile Internet,
          I might continue to use Opera Max (that
          claims to reduce users' Data Usage, using
          compression (at their servers) & decom-
          pression (in your device, eg, just before
          displaying content).

          OF course, we -don't- work with National
          Security secrets or on Defense projects
          any more… ;-)

        • -1

          @noz: I heard they left NO (to move to USA or CA…? Forgotten which… anyone know?)

          (NO's in NATO, last time I checked…)

      Opera VPN only works for Opera browsing.
      It only has 5 POPs (locations).

      great for what it does, but is pretty limited.
      Also free = they're making money from you (probably tracking your browsing)

      • -1

        Mate, it was JUST released… Give 'em time. ;-)

        They fully INTEND to add more servers+locations.

        The WORLD is getting Customer- & Service-focused, &
        Opera (for those not familiar with this long-time
        company & its range of FREE products) has been
        pleasing its User Community for quite a while.

        It's in their blood (Even folks who leave Opera
        do it… Cf browser "Vivaldi" by a spin-off group. :-)

        PS I think they put it out "just in time" before tRUMP's
        inauguration (12th Jan?)

        (What are AUSSIE companies doing to protect our Privacy?)

        • Obviously had a good time on Mt Linsey.

          We all know it's run by Terrance & Phillip as a freemium app

        • @supabrudda:
          I dinna know that… or even what any of that means…

          Care to enlighten me / us?

      • Yes, that's true. What in the world that some should give their service for free for unlimited time!

    • Opera really ? Some websites like entrepreneur tracks your actual location and redirects to their local website. This was our experience with Opera VPN.

  • Any suggestion on a VPN with fast servers located in India to stream the local TV shows..

    • There's an app (charging users for) TV from India.

      Is there a low-cost Satellite TV receiver+antenna pkg for Asia (incl South Asia)? What's the entry-level cost of Hardware, & is it free, after that?

      • The app is free to use provided the content is viewed from an Indian IP. With VPN I believe the app can be accessed same way. That's why I am interested to get the VPN with servers in India.

        I am not sure about the receivers.

        • VPN Unlimited has 3 servers in India: Pune, Dehli & Bangalore, at this stage.

          At the moment (due to time of day, there?) usage at each is only 1 digit (eg, 3%), so it may be fast.

          Maybe send me the app's Name, & I can make a few tests for you.

        • Some Chinese acquintances have a huge satellite dish on the ground, that brings them well over 100 channels (CN + HK, I think).

          I noticed some systems - a while ago - that were somehow configured (by vendor or maker?) to bring ONLY China or some combination of CN/HK + other ch's from around Asia, of course, costing more for more countries' ch's…

          What app(s) work without a subscription?

        • @IVI: I

          Try Hotstar.com and Sonyliv. Appreaciate your kind help

    • +1

      you're probably best seeing if you can find a smartDNS server (getflix, dns4me, etc) as they'll (generally) be faster then a VPN.

      or if you want a VPN, then find one with a free trial & see how you go, as they can be a bit hit & miss.

    • what about using tata sky app through VPN server in India , Windscribe claims to have servers in India , I tried with PIA but when I try connect to Pune server , it connects to a server location in Dubai so can't choose Indian IP. Not sure about other VPN's . If they allow Indian IP's i think tata sky or Dish Tv apps would be a good cheaper option compared to Vision asia or Real TV box, World max tv box.

    • Hide.me have Indian servers.
