how much is this usually? My local has it for $36.99 every day

    • Lucky man, the only place near me that has it sells it for $50

    • +2

      Where's your local?

    • yes, even cheaper at my local booze outlet. Very nice malty beer, very unlike the GREEN Peroni

  • +2

    Was$29.95 at Costco for months

    • +2

It's $31.95 now. I haven't tried this beer before. How does it compare to the White and Green Peroni ?

      • +2

The white label they sell everywhere is locally brewed and horrible stuff. All it does is give the real stuff a bad rep. If you live near a Costco you'd do well to grab some at that price

        • +1

Not 100% correct. Locally brewed is sold at Dan's.

Costco sells fully imported Peroni Nasto Azuro (brewed in Padova). It is normally ~$39 mark. Costco's Peroni Red is also fully imported and normally ~$30 mark. I like both, and Red being cheaper is really good buy. Most Italian restaurants serve Peroni Red.

P.S. Costco Moorabbin hasn't had Peroni or Stella (brewed in Belgium) for weeks now - running low at home, going through lat lot of Chancer from First Choice deal :(

@WalterBiH: Thanks for the costco info chaps. Will have a look this week.

        • @WalterBiH: Also for those that live near Essendon; LaManna sell the fully imported Red Label, and Blue Ribbon versions of Peroni. Also Australian Liquor Suppliers on Matthews Avenue in Airport West deal with only imports, and at good prices when they have them in stock (less than $40).

      • +2

I prefer the red. It's the original and best.

        • Correct

    • Do Dan Murphy's price beat Costco?

Looks like DM's don't stock it.

  • +1

Great beer, one of my favourites. Can't believe how reasonably priced it is even at $43 at Kent St Cellars, which is the only place I normally see it. Has been cheaper in the past, so I'd say this is a good deal.

  • +5

This is a decent deal unless you're in QLD, SA or WA ….from memory Aldi doesn't sell liquor in QLD, SA or WA.

id rather drink VB than this crap

    • +1

…surely you are taking the piss?

      • +16

i made a Very Bad joke.

        • +1

          lol. join the club… :P

      • +1

I'd say they've just been drinking the piss.

  • +1

Peroni Red Label has a slightly richer colour with an added focus on hop and malt flavours, has a great bitter finish and is our biggest selling imported beer too!

like the nastro azzuro so this sounds like a goer…

  • +2

You mean 4th Jan not 1st Apr, right?

    • +1

Correct, can I blame my phone? Or the US?

      Thanks

  • +1

great beer, had it when i was in Italy

  • Is this likely to be short dated stock?

  • +3

Always a bit wary of imported lager as you've no idea how well it's been stored and transported. I've had some imported beers that I've had to tip away they were so badly skunked.

    • +1

yeah there's a small but considerable chance of that occurring.

Not sure why you would be downvoted whilst voicing your opinion though?

      • +3

Me neither. I've never bought the 'imported is best' argument though, I think it's mostly just snobbery. Beer just doesn't travel well, however much care you take.

        • I don't buy that argument either, but it doesn't even come close to the micro brewery snobbery that seems to be taking the country by storm.

I just enjoy a good lager and this is one of the best I've tasted, even if it suffers a bit from travel as you say

        • +1

@Mal68: The micro brewery snobbery is a tiny minority (albeit the most prominent face) of craft beer fandom.
Buying fresh beer as close as possible to it's source will reward you with the best possible beer.
Temp fluctuations, light, age, etc all have very negative effects on beer, esp so on Light Lagers that don't have strong maltiness or hoppiness to hide flaws behind.

        • +2

You're correct in the sense that a beer will taste better when it hasn't had to travel half way round the world to get to you; but for those of us who want to enjoy a popular international beer, we're going to get the locally brewed version (if bought from Dan's), which has a noticeably funkier taste.

You show me a person who enjoys the locally brewed (CUB) versions of Heineken, Beck's, Corona, Peroni Nastro Azzuro, Stella (and more) over the original imports; and I'll show you a liar.

        • @MoMoney: Only with double blinded testing.

  • Anyone know if costco (docklands) still sells the peroni red? Was getting for 32-38 a slab and didn't see any last time i went (few weeks back)

    • I was at the Docklands Costco on 31/12 getting some NYE stuff and no Peroni Red, only seen it once on the last 3 months.. they need to stock it more.

Italian beer? Sounds like german wine … Better play lotto if you like the risk

    • +1

Germany makes some great wine - IF you like the style of course. Their dessert wines are legendary.

    • +2

Peroni Red is an outstanding beer. Italy has some very decent beer.

      • Would love to try it now, but damn it's only in selected area's!

        • Look around. I've found more and more bottle shops carry it and cheap too. I've often paid $30 a case. Less than a pack of eneloops!

      • +1

        Birra Menabrea. Excellent beer.

        • Oh yeah!

  • +2

My local Aldi has these already.

    Most were Jan 2018 dated

  • This is a fantastic beer but only 330ml. It's around $38 around my area. It's one of my favourites, I was in Italy a few months ago & its dirt cheap over there, they aren't big beer drinkers.

  • +1

Great beer when, like this offer, it's coming from Italy. The Peroni most commonly found in bottle shops is brewed in VIC is pretty awful in comparison.

  • Strolled into DM on NYE Picked up this for $39. Not available online.

  • +1

Went to 2 ALDI stores and they only had 3 and 2 cases each, and that's all. Not sure if they were holding out, I call BS on their stock levels.

Date on the box is 01/18, long expiry date.

    • I went to my local one this afternoon and they had none, and no spot where it appeared it had been. I'll check out another store or two tomorrow but pretty disappointing
