This has been around i for at least 6 months now and is a dupe

    • +2

not a dupe, 6 months since the last post.

      • +45

It has been around more than a year.
What parent is unaware of this? Maybe I should post there is free tap water at many municipal parks, shops, schools and offices?

        • +9

free tap water at many municipal parks

Wait, what??? Gees & here I am paying $8 a litre for pretentious Artesian Voss. Thanks!

        • It's the ozbargainers who do not have kids are the ones who are unaware of this.

Seriously, it's right infront of your face when you walk into any store.

        • +4

          @snoo:

Hey everyone. Free toy with every Happy Meal! For those who don't know, it's not always free. You need to ask for it.

        • +21

Why have a go at the OP for posting this. Some people know about this, some people may not. if you know already then don't look at the post; it isn't as if the title is misleading in anyway. This is the reason why some people don't bother to post the bargains they see 'cause they don't want to be attacked. I look at this site often, and get some good deals from it, but I am reluctant to post anything and every comment I make I brace for the backlash. How about a bit of support for people here, rather than it being a clique for smartarses. Let the attacks begin.

        • @try2bhelpful:
Trigger Warning: I may disagree with one of your posts.

        • -2

          @ca6leguy:

Wait, why would ozbargainers who do not have kids be unaware? You said yourself it's right in front of your face when you walk into any store.

        • +1

          @Spooked:
I have seen a few times that they tend to try and hide the little stand that has the fruit in it for some reason.

So this post is a good reminder.

        • +1

          @bnk:

I'm bringing up the fact that non parents can see it too, so why would they be unaware.

And it's next to the baskets in every store I've been too.

        • @Spooked:

Possibly kidless ozbargainers just eat out all the time?

        • @Spooked:
my coles also has one but it's in an awkward out of the way to get to mid shopping type area - The woolies is closer to the baskets but not next to

        • +3

@snoo: $8 for Voss??? Do you even ozbargain? lol

        • +1

Ours is at kid height behind a column, easily missed!

    • +1

Perth are like Tasmania always just a bit behind the ball….

      • -2

WA isn't called Wait Awhile for no reason! But to be fair they got this deal same time as the rest of Australia!

  • +3

Would any workers actually care if 'non-kids' were to eat those? Always wonder if they'd come up to you and go 'KIDS ONLY'

    • +3

Yes… i was told off when i was getting one for my son

      • +3

        How old is your son??

        • +4

I am 17, they told me off 3 months ago that apparently there is a "one piece per child" and the you can't take it out of the store.

        • +3

          @Savas: zacsg1 is your dad?

      • +6

And by 'son' you mean stomach :)

    • +2

I work for Woolworths, sometimes I see mature customers eat the fruits, it really depends on how nice the worker is, for me it is not worth arguing over apple and if they ask me, i would allow them anyway.

The whole "free fruit for kids" is to allow parents feed their kids with one piece while shopping.

      • Lol I have seen parents fill up a bag from the basket and ask there taking it home for there children :))))

        • +2

They forget to the read the fine print that says "while you are shopping".

  • Preventive strike from last time this was posted:

    • No, it's not a duplicate as per above, over 6 months old.
    • Yes, it's a deal.
    • Yes, it's a freebie.
    • Not all people on OzBargain know about all deals everywhere as per the OP.

Eat your free fruit kids (but not apples apparently they may not be washed).

    • +3

Precisely. I got a lot of hate from that deal last time

    • The original deal is active but older than 6 months.

Can you please explain the point of this exception? Why not just keep long running deals open until someone marks them as expired?

      • Long expiry takes off the default 45 day auto-expiry that is enabled for all deals. It's an alternative to putting an expiry way into the future (e.g. 1 year).

The new deal provides a reminder to those who know about the deal and also serves as a new bargain to those who don't know about it (like the OP in this deal).

Big picture? 1 more person to know about a deal > 1 more person annoyed they've seen the deal 6 months ago.

        • +1

We all should be less self-centred.

  • +14

    There were banana and pear

    Insufficient quantity.

  • +1

Coles as well, at least Waurn Ponds, Geelong.

  • +5

I'm off to Officeworks to demand my price match free fruit. (For my kid)

    • +1

Bunnings sell fruit in their cafe. Also do 10% off competitors price, not 5%.

      • +1

        Fruit sizzle.

      • +1

Had a customer come into the cafe actually wanting us to beat 7 Eleven's price of coffee…

        • +1

Did you do the secret OzBargain salute to them?

  • +4

They had carrots last time I went at Kingsgrove NSW…make sure you bring your vege peeler or grab one from aisle 6!

    • +17

They could put onions there to eat 'Tony Abbott' style

      • Put some in the baskets, stand back and enjoy the fun to follow. Make sure you record and share ;)

        • -1

Put some chilli in the kids basket lol

        • @hardya:

          you obviously dont have kids.

  • -3

    It's always been free

  • +13

don't make the mistake i made - BWS does not have free beer for adults :(

  • -1

Even My Local Super IGA In Woodvale Has Been Doing This For Over 6 Months

  • +1

Both Coles and Woolies have been doing it for several years where we are. The only difference is that Woolies has new promotional posters for it now. That may be why you haven't noticed it before OP. The new poster has a red curly haired boy eating an apple. These new posters came out just before Christmas.

    • +3

My local Coles doesn't offer free fruit for kids.

      • Mine does. It recently went through large renovations though and i don't remember it being there prior.

  • -1

I don't see the difference between grabbing a fruit from the free basket or from the place that is actually for sale. Unless the ones in the free basket is second grade.

    • The one in free basket is not second grade.

    • +3

I don't see the difference between grabbing a fruit from the free basket or from the place that is actually for sale.

The store might allocate (x) amount of free fruits per day. If people simply grabbed fruits from the shelves and started eating them, that's stealing as the store did not say that was free.

If you served dinner to a house guest and instead your house guest helps himself to the food in your pantry without asking, would you consider that poor form?

      • If you served dinner to a house guest and instead your house guest helps himself to the food in your pantry without asking, would you consider that poor form?

You've just described every time my brother comes over for dinner…only he eats both! ;)

    • +2

What next? Just open a cooked chicken and start munching on it as you walk around, and don't pay for that?

  • -7

Not a deal, it's been free for years so it's 'regular pricing'. Plus it gets posted a few times a year.

  • +1

    Thanks OP.

  • -4

Ya this been around for a while BUT the stinky lady said it only if the kids are present and are in-store. I had a bunch of fruit as per OZB spirit at the time. I made a fuss saying my kids were in the car etc but she wouldn't let me take it. Lol

    • +3

Were they really in the car? :)

    • +6

You're a scab for sure, I'm glad she stopped you. Common sense tells you that it's obviously meant to be for kids that are actually there in store. Maybe also consider grabbing one piece per child as well. Super selfish taking a bunch just because it's 'free'. The fact you made a fuss too is just sad.

  • I do not have kids but I am aware. I have seen kids eating fruits at Safeway, as I do buy fruits.
I'm ONLY WONDERING where's your "WASH YOUR HANDS AND FRUITS BEFORE YOU EAT?" parenting guide.

ARE THE FRUITS NON-GMO (genetically modified organism), PESTICIDES-FREE? ARE THE FRUITS HEALTH BENEFICIAL?

    —- just a thought —-

    • +4

How can we tell if Queentulip (new user) is being serious or sarcastic?
Please add a smiley if your SHOUTINESS is ironic. :)

      • -1

        @manic, why can't be BOTH? :-)

      • 2011 member is a new user? :-)

        • Insufficient posting history to tell if apparent idiocy is parody. I'm pretty sure, but have been wrong before :-)

    • +1

I take it home to wash it before giving it to my kid.

      • +1

@ca6leguy, glad to know. Most kids I saw, they just eat it there straight away.

    • +1

Kids are filthy anyway.. touching everything in sight and touching their faces/noses/mouths. Young ones crawling across filthy public floors and sticking their fingers into their mouths.

The main reason I wash my fruit before eating it is to cleanse it of anything feral children in supermarkets have left on it after fondling the fruit while their parents are busy.

      Yuck.

      • that explains my wonder…

  • +1

I've previously asked in store if the apples were washed and the answer first was I don't know and when pressed turned into a no, I just wish they had a bin or two in store because I notice half eaten fruit in so many random spots it's become a game to spot the strangest place.

    • +2

In our store, we wash ours and always replace the old ones.

    • I use the bin out the front underneath the paper towels near the trolleys

      • +1

You have paper towels!, Tassie's so backwards (I'm not a native).

  • -1

Are there terms and conditions? Like, what if I cut up a Mango for my son to eat while walking around? Or if not a mango how about raspberries or blueberries? Can I perhaps go a watermelon? Actually i think blueberries are the best value at $40 a kg.

    • Usually only apples and bananas are free.

    • +1

      Are there terms and conditions?

Free fruit strictly for young goats only!

    • I really wish people who down-vote comments would explain why. I'm at a complete loss as to why i was down-voted, happened on another post recently too. Makes no sense!

    • +1

You can't grab any fruit in store for your kids to eat for free. Only the fruits from the basket in front of the store entrance with a sign "FREE FOR KIDS"

      • Thanks. Never noticed this basket before! Thought you just grab a banana or what not off the shelf. Will look next time I go.

        • I've seen adults standing there eating fruits and loose nuts on the shelves with no intention to buy.

  • -5

6 months on and it still isn't a deal. and the fact that ozbargain allows this shit to be reposted every 6 months just shows that all they care about is getting rich off the ad revenue, not on actually making sure that good deals get posted

    • +4

getting rich off the ad revenue

Yep coz it's not like this was the only deal posted today or anything…

    • +3

If you're unhappy, just leave. Nobody is forcing you to be here.

  • What's the definition of "kid"?

    • +3

I had pensioner asked for the same thing, and his response was "well my friend thinks I am still a kid", I was like help your self.

    • +1

A kid is technically a baby goat…make of that what you will. :P

  • Can I get free fruit? I'm a child at heart.

    • Like this?

  • My local still has Carrots in the basket with a suggestion they be left out for the reindeer..seriously wow = fail.

  • Great to get the kids to be quiet for a bit during the shopping trip! Not so great of finding half eaten or consumed fruit discarded in the aisles and sticky products where the kid has placed its hands over it

    • I wish people would use their common sense and put in the bin provided. or ask staff.

    • +1

I've never knocked back a customer approaching me to dispose of rubbish as long as it's not gross to handle, but there should be bins at self serve checkouts too if you don't feel comfortable asking for a bin

  • This is neither a bargain, nor news. Half the country shops at woolies - yeah they've had fruit for kids for like forever.

    • Why don't you post a bargain instead then?

  • Would love to see a deal from woolies for "Free beer for mid-twenties uni student"

  • Wish they had durian in the free fruit basket
