      What's your point bonky?

      • +4

Should have posted it all bonky, instead of TA having to post all again this week as well as all other times..

        • +10

Bonky can post what they want. Just don't suggest that this post is a dupe.

Also don't be surprised if TA's post gets more up votes. He put in more effort.

        • @sween64:
Agree, TA always puts in heaps of efforts in everything that is posted!

        • +3

@sween64: In fairness to bonky, the ice cream tubs were originally in the title as I wasn't aware of his post.

        • @tightarse:

          Thanks TA!

        • @sween64:

Now now… no need to be rude!

          @bonky: what exactly was rude?

  • Thanks again TA. love getting the low down before the dog goes online :)

  • Stock up on Lynx Africa in advance for 2017 Xmas gifts!

    • +3

      Yeah the boys!

  • Wow Twisties are on special, that's a surprise.

    • +5

      It's not a surprise, it's a twist

  • Thanks again TA ;)

  • I look down on people who spend more than $10/kg on shortcut bacon from the supermarket.

    • Hard to go back once you've gotten used to nice smoked bacon.

    • $10/KG is pretty cheap for shortcut bacon.

      • Every week it's on special somewhere. It's like $1 John west/greenseas tuna

Heads up - With boost mobile in unlimited plans u cannot call to 13 and 1800 no's, experienced and confirmed with customer service.

  • Can someone remind me which telco has changed the expiry date for activation of prepaid SIMs starting from the date of purchase?

    • Optus

    • Amaysium and boost have as well

    • Darn it!

    • you mean the included credit expires 28 days from purchase date? even before activation??

      • The SIM becomes invalid X days after purchase. If activated credit lasts the specified period.

        • thanks, any idea what are the X? I've been checking optus website and can't seem to find that fine print.
thinking purchasing 2 optus starter kit to use in April

        • @DvD: I think it's 30 days in the case of Optus and is stated on a sticker on the pack.

        • @greenpossum: thanks mate

        • Hey are you sure this is the case? I just bought some Optus $30 Prepaid SIMs for $10 from Coles today, the pack has a yellow sticker that states:

SIM contains no value until loaded on purchase.
Activate within 30 days of purchase or by the date advertised on a promotion.
          1417680 (11/16)

And in the pack it says Expiry: 01 Feb 2018

So which is applicable now? Very confusing because if the value is loaded upon purchase and has to be activated within 30 days then why have the "expiry" for?

        • +2

@sky blu: There's a previous thread discussing this. My view is that Optus is imposing yet another expiry date in addition to that on the pack to discourage hoarders. The value is applied at the register similar to gift cards and the pack becomes invalid if the SIM is not activated within 30 days. Maybe you might be able to take the pack and receipt to Optus and ask for a refund if that happens, maybe not.

To answer the question why the printed expiry date, that's a vestige of the old system. It's conceivable that Optus is moving to a gift card model. Say compare JBHiFi and Optus:

          At the shop:

J: You take a gift card to the counter and have value loaded on it. The value expires in a year.
O: You take a starter pack to the counter and have value loaded on it. The value expires in 30 days.

          At redemption time:

J: You use the card to purchase.
O: You activate the SIM by giving your details and tell Optus what plan you want. Plan duration is not related to the value expiry.

          At expiry:

          J: Value is lost.
          O: SIM pack becomes invalid.

This way eventually Optus can distribute generic starter packs with no loaded credit until purchased. They they can do away with the printed expiry date.

        • @greenpossum: Thanks for your response. If that's the case then their "interim" stickers are still convoluted.

        • @greenpossum: I had confirmation from Optus Prepaid team via Live Chat advising that the prepaid SIM is to be activated before the expiry date stated on the SIM pack.

Though he/she originally did say one has to activate within 30 days of purchase date but I had the rep went and check with someone else.

        • +1

@sky blu: OK but I think what I stated is Optus's eventual intent. When I did a stint there many years ago as an Internet engineer, the marketing people were always cooking some complicated tieup or other. Don't think they have changed.

        • @greenpossum: I agreed on Optus' intent part. The marketing/ sales people stuffing things up part, same ol’ same ol'

  • I must be blind but I can't see the Boost Starter Kit in the catalogue but time to stock up on a few starter kits again
