    The Sapa appears to be the only one that can be rear loaded, i.e. with a zip right down the back. Is that correct?

      at 1.5kg the sapa isn't really UL.

      look into the backpacking light forums in the US, you can get great discounts on secondhand UL gear

        Huh, I would have guessed any savings would get lost in postage? and that maybe second-hand gear might have un-obvious flaws? (I know mine does! I use mine to death!)

        EDIT, oof! "Login to post ($4.99/yr Basic Membership required)", when did that happen?! I used to like that place well enough, but I'm not paying for a forum!

          the community is pretty good, they're mostly honest about the wear on goods.

          UL gear is generally pretty cheap to post, it's light and can often be packed smaller than traditional equipment

          you can also look on bushwalk forums, they're not UL focussed but they occasionally have some good deals, but not nearly as cheap as backpacking light.

          Regarding the login to post, the ads often have email addresses attached, or i think you can PM for free

      I have the 40 and while it's technically slightly too large for carry on I have always gotten away with it. Just pack light and compress it as much as possible and you should be right.
