160

Product Info & Specifications

Impressive looking and sounding, this 7.2-channel AV Receiver supports the latest Dolby Atmos® and DTS:X™ formats, as well as MusicCast and HDMI® with support for 4K60p (4:4:4), HDCP2.2, HDR and BT.2020. It provides DSD 5.6MHz high resolution audio playback and a Virtual Surround Back Speaker function.

I believe this product is identical to the Australian model except for the power plug. Use a simple international adapter to plug into Australian sockets.

Checkout price €290.83 + €70.92 shipping ($516 AUD). Prices in Australia appear to be $900~$1000 so this is saving hundreds.

This price is better than Nov 2016 deal and almost as good as Sep 2016 deal.

Update: Black model no longer in stock but can still purchase at this price, expected delivery 14 Feb - 8 Mar. Silver model still in stock at same price.

  • Use a simple international adapter to plug into Australian sockets.

So the cable is fixed into the device at the back and not replaceable? (EDIT: yep - from picture)

Other options are purchase a replacement cable from Yamaha but don't tell them it's for an overseas model and fit this. It'll generally be a plug inside on the power supply.

Or replace the plug with an Australian one.

Thinking of getting these… what's a good 7.2 channel speaker system to go with it?

P.S. if anyone is wondering what 7.2 means compared to 7.1: "As we mentioned previously, the “.1” in 5.1, 7.1 and all the others refers to the LFE (low frequency effects) channel in a surround soundtrack, which is handled by a subwoofer. Adding “.2” simply means that a receiver has two subwoofer outputs. Both connections put out the same information since, as far as Dolby and DTS are concerned, there is only one subwoofer track. Since A/V receiver manufacturers want to easily market the additional subwoofer output, the notion of using “.2” was adopted."

  • Anyone know if it can pass through 4k hdr?

    • HDMI® with support for 4K60p (4:4:4), HDCP2.2, HDR and BT.2020.

    • so if you buy a receiver that cant pass through hdr, does the TV then pick up the slack or have you lost hdr completely?

or do you just plug the source that has hdr into the tv hdmi ports thus bypassing the receiver and dont get 5.1 sound?

  • Are these receivers shipped from France? I've not ordered a large fragile device like this before, how well are they packed & do they often get damaged in transit?

  • Estimated delivery 14 feb - 8 mar

    • Thanks, updated post.

    • Yep it's like a back order but it won't be cancelled ;)

For those who can't wait you can add a few $ -> Denon AVR-X1300W from Amazon.de
      The power cable is replaceable.

      • Yep very similar models. The Denon lacks a Digital Coaxial input but most people wouldn't notice.

  • I have the older model RX-V479 and it does 4k passthrough but not HDR which is annoying. You'd want 4k and hdr if you plan to plug your Xbox One S or PS4 pro into it. This is a good buy.

  • so if you have a new samsung which has that one connect box, do you put 1 hdmi from the yamaha to the samsung box then plug all other hdmis into the yamaha?

now I suppose you have to decide do you want warranty or not?

  • Just reporting back that mine arrived on Monday 30/1, well ahead of the estimated delivery date of 14/2-8/3.
