Guessing they meant 23cm honing steel.

    • Good knives,a bit chunky imo, (dont like bolsters aka. Blunt heels.)

If you can find the knife cheaper you could buy the mundial black handled steel for bout $25, might be a better deal.

Agree. Thick bolster means the edge will lose it's shape over time won't cut all the way down to the board.

Bought a Spyderco Santoku a while back for ~$70. Not the nicest looking knife I own but definitely the nicest to use. Great steel and very comfortable handle.

        • You're right. That's an ugly knife.

        • @jazoom: don't knock thIs knife im a chef for over 20 years and have had this knive for 20 years daily use if you look after it this is sensational.

        • @SLAMMA1102: I never said it wasn't good at cutting things. It's just ugly. I doubt a nicer appearance would ruin is knifiness.

Edit: Since you've been using it a while, how is the handle stuck to the blade? And what type of steel is it? I'm in the market for a new knife.

It does look very ugly and cheap. I won't pay $70 for this.

        • @SLAMMA1102: I didnt say anything bad about the knife, I said it didnt suit my desires for a knife. Ive also been a chef for 8, and my victorinox are also still going strong. Oneday ill update but I dont like bolsters on the heel, and I dont like crap handles like globals lol.

Yeah, plenty of people prefer form over function. For me a knife is more of a tool than something pretty to show off in the kitchen and this has been my favourite to use since it came into the kitchen.

          From KnifeCentre

Its durable polypropylene plastic handle is injection molded directly onto the tang of the blade

For what it's worth, the steel is MBS-26. Blade is thin, holds an edge well and slices very nicely.

Some knife nut talk about the steel on the usual forums if you want opinions on the technical aspects

        • @OzBragain: Thanks for the info. The last time I researched into knives everyone was all about the VG10.

          @Slippery Fish: Victorinox lmao

Mondial doesn't come close to this knife like comparing a old falcon to a Ferrari

        • The peice of metal you rub the knife on is realy not here or there, the mundial does a fine job, read the comment before you reply wrong please.

Its not the knife SLAMMA, its just they need to find a problem with anything and everything. I wasn't going to post deals anymore, but realised the physco streak that makes people need to pull apart and put down helpful strangers, works to my advantage, if there is anything at all wrong with the product or a cheaper one, they will post it. Looks like this knife is a good buy, because they are scraping the bottom of the barrel trying to say Wusthof is comparable to a cheap Mundial.

Damn right it's not the knife, it's the Mundial steel Slippery Fish was referring to.

buy the mundial black handled steel for bout $25

You guys really need to work on your reading and comprehension skills before taking cheap shots at others. Either that or you need to learn the role of a steel in knife maintenance.

Fair difference between Wüsthof and Mundial knives but I can't imagine there's that much of a functional difference between their steels.

@stormii: listen here you self important arsehole, the guy on your thread was a huge dick, the comment here was nothing alike.

I stated for 99% of people the mundial steel would be fine with the knife from this deal if it worked out cheaper, I never trashed his deal, I never commented saying it was shit value, I never did anything you anal pricks have imagined up. All I said was it was not my style of knife to give other ozb people something to consider. I then came back and said if that suited it might be a bit cheaper if anyone did not have the full $ sitting about for this deal.

You are the final straw, I wont be back on this site, (profanity) like you are the ones you complain about.

        • @Slippery Fish: The steel is free more or less, the knife is the cheapest 20cm Wusthof around that I can find, and the deal is for anyone looking for a cheap Wusthof knife, like my chef son is. I don't really care what anyone thinks of me, or if I get upvoted, but I know this deal may help a few young chefs looking at owning a knife that is not only well made, but can help them earn a little prestige in the kitchen. The first thing every job my son has had asked for was to see his knives, and having a decent set as a young chef is important if you want to go far. I also thouroughly agree that the handles on Globals are a nightmare.
